Part 1 doesn't look right to me at all. Affraid or WOW!

Just preheat the cylinder and run it in as a regular ABC type of engine. That is all that is needed.

Here is a good reading about the reasoning and idea behind it: Adrian, ABC engine break-in

Kris, I only show the method that I applied, because the motors are impossible to turn with the preheat only of the glow plug.
It is not a topic of discussion for me.
Do not do it if you do not agree, some engines may come much tighter than others. Nothing will be damaged if you do what I did in the videos, my engines work faithfully after this procedure.
I also appreciate your opinion. But some users who find themselves with a tight or very tight motor may have to resort to this method.
Greetings, for you Kris.

What did you use in the cylinder and intake? Light oil, perhaps 10 wt.?

In the past I have used JB bore compound diluted in 10 wt. oil in troublesome cylinders to break them in with good results.

What I apply mineral oil for 2-stroke engines.
I have used this oil in the mixture of my gasoline engines.
It is common mineral oil.

Yes, of course the glow plug itself will not provide any heat. The idea with using a heat gun is fine, but one should not spin the engine through TDC without a glowplug in it in order to have compression. The correct procedure is the same as for an ABC engine, you preheat the cylinder (using a heat gun or handheld torch) and then start the engine. Once running the heat from combustion will keep the cylinder at the correct temp as long as the engine is not running too rich.

You cannot put up a video like that and not expect have any discussion.
Don't take it personally, that certainly was not my intention, the goal must surely be to provide good advice to others here.

Kris, when I say that it is not a topic of discussion I mean that I do not want to raise doubts.
Therefore, I have already put them to these videos privately, because then if someone contacts me, I will show them how I did the job of seating very tight Norvel engines, that way I will not leave these videos that generate any problems.
I have also removed them from this thread, to avoid any doubt.
I do not take it personally, on the contrary, I join your opinion that you have to give good advice, perhaps these videos did not meet that objective.
Thanks for your concern. Thumbs Up

Well friends, here I share the performance of the Norvel .074, I am really impressed with the response and reliability in the "bench" of this engine.
Without a doubt it is another great engine to enjoy.
Now thinking of making a model for him, or adapting it in one that he already has ... we'll see ... I'll share here ... Very Happy

Lovely Norvel .074 making good power as it gets break in time. Thumbs Up
The engine will work very well for 4ch projects.

Next perhaps you can get one of these they will work very well with a APC 6x3
This one you can make the prop thrust plate and convert the backplate and RC
carb with a rear facing NV. Carb has a low end small needle for rock solid idles.
Will run just fine with a DIY header.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/07-Vertigo-Engine-51C00-86042-For-RC-Remote-Control-Car/323897478363?hash=item4b69cb4cdb:g:1iYAAOSwaZRdZsmr

Converted:

SH 07 / Profi Tuned Pipe / APC 4.2 x 4 / 28,666 rpm / 109 mph pitch speed
11.7oz thrust / .211 hp - 158 w / Pipe's MRP set at 8.25" / 165 deg. exhaust
Set to peak on the pipe at 33k rpm / 4.5x5 for flying / 156 mph
Converted 1/16th car engine for aero use / 25% nitro / 20% oil.

Yes , the .074 is indeed a great engine and a nice upgrade from a .061 with a relatively small weight penalty (compared to using a typical .10 engine).
For sports use I really like the APC 6.3x4 prop, but it all depends on the application.

Post  MauricioB Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:23 am

Thanks guys for watching and leaving your opinions .... I like to share here the experience of other engines, of different brands, since in the hobby world, they are all gems of engineering.
Regarding Norvel, I must say that I am very happy in my experience, since the .049 / .061 / .074 are engines that work faithfully in all gear ranges. Of course, there are cases of very tight engines that the seating process must be done and that I leave it for me as a personal path and decision, giving me each engine a reliable answer always.
Now I am evaluating the application of .074 in some model ... so, as many of you know, I made two Mini Birds, one yellow and the other red, this was a few years ago.
I only flew the yellow Mini Bird using a Cox Tee Dee .051 for the first time here is a video of that moment:

You can also see the black color of the Carburetor Body there, but it is still a .051, since the part was replaced and I did not get the red one.

Then I decided to see how the recent MP-Jet .061 r / c iva, so I'm thinking of using the other Mini Bird, (the red one) with the Norvel .074, and in that way to launch the model as well, since I have never released it since so! Very Happy

Now with the MP-JET .061

My red Mini Bird, still unused .... I'm thinking of trying the Norvel .074 there

Thank you Eric, see pic of modified pull start backplate before and after mod.
I used a bench grinder to shape in a small square and polish it up. I ended up

Well, this may be a sad image, due to the cut of the fuselage, but in reality it is not, in this way, I will also obtain a matrix and I will be able to make a cowl of pet material in the future.
In addition, I will be able to put any Cox motor back in just by replacing the plastic bench.
The Mini Bird model is an excellent model in flight that facilitates engine testing and that is the idea.
Now the engine change process is underway ...

Great engine run it has no problem powering that prop.

Should be enough thrust to go straight up, how much does the plane weigh now?
Much better wheel diameter now / good move.

Hi guys, how are you?
I am not an active participant in this forum, but I do read, and I see absolutely all the interesting posts made by you.
I ask you a question, I bought a new Norvel RC .049 engine, and some time ago I saw on this site that Mauricio B. had published two excellent videos on how to accentuate them.
I'm looking for them right now, but I can't find them.
I am very interested in being able to see them, since not only the Norvel, but also several Cox engines, following the excellent tutorials that Maurico does and with excellent results.
If anyone knows where to find them, I will appreciate it.
Best regards, Diego RC Plane I Love This Forum!

Friend, here is the Mini Bird ready to fly, because everything is already configured. The Norvel .074, will take you {to wonders for sure.
I answer your question, the finished model weighs: 504 grams to that we must add about 20 grams of fuel, so the total weight in flight order would be about 524 grams.
