New Model Build

New Model Build
Over some of the 100-degree days I started building a Cleveland Viking. I have had the plan for a few years now and I have an engine to go with it. I also picked up a tick off type of ignition cut off and dethermalizer. I thought of this as a winter project, but it seems to be moving along fairly quickly.

Nicely formed. I love to view uncovered stick built airplanes. Is that a O&R Sparker? .29 maybe.

Re: New Model Build
Nice Cleveland Viking cabin build, @bsadonkill , love all that balsa lumber, looks very lightweight. Inverted engine, haven't seen that in a while, seems common in the 1950's.

Re: New Model Build
Well, I had to do some cutting on the cowl to make room for the timing arm. The timing unit is new so the engine runs without missing. I worked out the pop-up tail. Motor stick is removable and uses three nickel metal hydride batteries in series. I have it set up for standard point ignition. But will probable go with a transistorized ignition. This changes the points form a high current switch to a low current 50 ma switch.

Re: New Model Build
An interesting vertical stab arraingment. Have you bench tested the O&R with the new ignition?
