Drones, pretty nifty...........
Nifty? Still a word used today Right out of my old home town in 1950's New Hampshire. Last time I visited N.H. the word of the year was "Wicked", as in that's a wicked 1957 Chevy! Times change!
But I drift!
My son was here today and brought his drone. Not the latest tech. a couple years old but it has abilities that amaze. Snap in your I phone and you can do most everything with it. Where was it when I was flying R/C....set the altitude and it stays there. Hit something else and it returns to home base. Super stable, and fast when you want it to be. Costco item where Mark bought it like this:
He wanted to take movies of the two lots next to me that he bought. But I had him take some pictures of my property.......Middle of no-where.
Conifers and deciduous.

Awesome. They are actually quite teh great little toys. I swore off that I would never get into drones. Well, about 7 or 8 of them later...... Lol. Then I said I would never get an overpriced DJI as your son has. Well, that changed a couple years ago as well. Mine is just one model below what you pictured. I found many great practical uses for it, and they may be of use to you as well. Mainly I use it to check shingle condition on mine and my parents houses and garages, as well as checking rain gutters for cleanliness and blockages.

You are a true Cox engine lover Andras.
I would love to see a practical one, but it just isn't going to happen. Electric power is essential for these, and this one is so nicely rendered. You can feel the quality of it. Everything just snaps into place and the fact that it folds into the size of a paperback book is amazing.
The designers did their homework. I begrudge the Commies anything, but credit should be applied where credit is due. However, I bet there is stolen American technology in there somewhere.

My son has a DJI mini…. It’s actually marked on its body 249 grams to avoid the regulations for those over 250….One of these days I want to see if he can chase one of my RC planes to get some air to air video….. Video below of him spying on a deer on his property…

Nice steady platform Robert. Looks like the drone had the deer's attention.
Interesting to see the difference in topography/seasons between Texas and WV.
Texas, been there.

Nice old photo from when you visited Texas Bob…. Looks like 1950’s?…. The drone photos of your place in West Virginia show that is very pretty with lots of tall trees…. Manicured nicely around your home…..My son’s place is south of Fort Worth, A good bit more green than where he grew up and I still live, About 300 mi west….Work took him out that way, Very proud of him, A double engineer, Mechanical and Electrical…. I’ll get him to do some aerial shots here when he comes to visit sometime ….It mostly looks like what’s in my flying videos….. Mesquite and scrub Cedar, A few little mountains here and there….A photo from the south part of the county where I go to fly….

I was 12 or 13 when that picture was taken with my Mom. Heading back to New Hampshire from LA. on the Southern route.
Stepping stones, I laid every one of the miserable things. Green pines, Hickory, Oak, Elm, and Dogwoods.
We share our progeny pride. Mark was a systems engineer with Raytheon for slightly over 30 years before he retired a few years ago. Started out with E System's which was absorbed by Raytheon.

That’s awesome Bob, I know you are very proud of him …. Tyler works for Rockwell Intl. and is a motor drive specialist (variable frequency drives, VFD’s) He gives at least some of the credit to hanging around my work bench growing up…. We built and fixed a lot of things there, Nice memories

....and we buy VFD-s for large, up to 200HP motors Robert, for the 36 feet diameter fans on the cooling towers that the company I work for sells around the world...

That’s interesting Andras…. VFD’s have certainly found their place in industry from small to large applications….And have made it much easier on equipment with soft start compared to just banging things on like we used too…. Not to mention more energy efficient as well ….

Yes, Robert, they are used on every second fan of our multi-fan cooling towers and air cooled condensers, ensuring practically stepless pergormance control and lot of power saving...we are involved in a large floating LNG plant to be built by Worley in British Columbia, where our dry cooling tower technology is preferred...80 pcs of 36 feet fans each driven by 250HP electric motor through VFD

Re: Drones, pretty nifty...........
Well, I relented and bought one. Make that two.
My son was over today and brought the Drone to map out some of our 11 acres. I was still impressed how it well flew without crashing remembering my R/C days.
Just a few minutes ago. Drone just to the left of the shed.
I always try to get the best of Mark, he thinks he's so smart. At Costco his Drone cost about $500, they are around $700 now for top-of -the line models. I have been buying through Temu lately (Fraud connected with them, not the company itself but with others trying to interfer with sales) and found one for $17 and another for $67 with the features of Mark's model. I don't think that he's impressed with my selections.............
The cheaper model has no smart return etc. $17.54. Three donuts and a cup of coffee.

My Son has one that is amazing. He could lift it to say 20 feet and release the controls and it would hover there unaffected even in a strong crosswind. Took amazing video and would return home automatically. It was $$$
pretty nifty

Hi CB. Maybe the same one that my son has. He flew it up to 300 feet and parked it there and used the video function to do a 360 degree sweep. Then lowered it to about 6 feet in front of my nose and parked it, hands off by just the press of a button.
Captured my redone walkway. He is in front of the garage door.

I saw a drone today making inspections on wind turbines for generating power nearby where I live….Gusty winds but it was holding steady at about 100 feet…. I think we’ll see them more and more going into the future doing different tasks….

Re: Drones, pretty nifty...........
We played around with the GPS drone today getting the hang of it. Still ironing out the wrinkles.
Took it outside and flew it around a bit. So easy a caveman - or me - could do it. "Expensive" one at $67.00. Got the $17.38 one in today. Very nice for the money. I do not know how the Chinese do it. Develop, manufacture, market and ship for seventeen dollars with battery, case, transmitter, and drone. Must be all that convict labor. Actually it's just manufacturing efficiency and a controlled workforce.
