Re: How to Install the Driveplate on .049
I have concluded that the method the I use to this works because I use studs rather than screw in .049 crank noses.
Just attach the trust washer, a prop, washer and nut to the crank with the splines aligned and tighten the nut to seat the thrust washer. No arbor press or special tool is needed.
Worked like a charm on my Surestart .049. Ask Ron Cribbs about my simple method.

I love this.
This is a opportunity for me to wield my universal tool.
The FBH
It's known in this part of the world as a 'large' hammer..
Seriously though I just stripped one of me 010's and used the prop bolt as a drift.
And on the way back used a piece of dowel from the rear.
Much to my neighbours chagrin it BRAAAAAAAP ran first time.

John I have learned that the only reason I have neighbours is for someone to hear my great engines run.
Re: How to Install the Driveplate on .049
If an engine runs in a neighborhood and a neighbor is not there to hear it does the engine really make a sound?

Depends on your earmuffs.fit90 wrote:If an engine runs in a neighborhood and a neighbor is not there to hear it does the engine really make a sound?
I run mine inside my shop at night with the doors closed. I've had a noticeable drop off in spiders and nothing ever rusts anymore.

One of my clubmates had the 'Heat' turn up at his place Friday evening when he fired up
his turbine in the garden...

Yes because it creates sound waves and that is sound and some call sound noise.
Re: How to Install the Driveplate on .049

I use good quality earmuffs, so it's not too loud inside.. I just have to throw open the doors after the run, turn my big box fan on high and wave it around to blow out the smoke.John Goddard wrote:RknRusty wrote:Depends on your earmuffs.fit90 wrote:If an engine runs in a neighborhood and a neighbor is not there to hear it does the engine really make a sound?

Thats why i like running them inside sometimes
When running them you don't notice but when you re-enter the room you are confronted with a massive white cloud of gas.

I've heard of walnuts but not "wall nuts". What are "wall nuts"? Do "wall nuts" grow on trees? Enlighten me, please.

Sorry I did mean walnuts.
Re: How to Install the Driveplate on .049
Excuse me Indra, I thought wall nuts might have been used to make "Harvey Wallbangers". Cheers!

Re: How to Install the Driveplate on .049
Yeah me too. I have a small and a medium ball-peen and a big ball peen, two old wooden handled professional carpenter's claw hammers, and a brass hammer, a rubber hammer, a plastic hammer, one hammer with both of those, a tinner's riveting hammer, a tack hammer, a slag hammer, a wrapped rawhide hammer and a maul, a full sized railroad-spike-driving sledge hammer, and a smaller 5lb sledge hammer, a 16" cross peen sledge and my most favorite hammer of all, a Craftsman short handled mini-sledge that I lovingly named "The One-Lick-Stick." If I see any I forgot, I'll toss them in too.SuperDave wrote:John: Over here it's called a BFH (Big F _ _ _ _ _ G Hammer) or more politely: Big Ford Hammer. Alright guys, let's hear it, what kind of hammer do you have for that prop drive plate?
My smileys aren't working.
