Help! how do i install a new blackplate screen?

Post  rogermharris Fri Apr 03, 2015 5:57 pm

i did a search and can't seem to find anything on it..
Did my first overhaul in more years than i can remember.
the only issue i have is replacing the back plate intake screen.
what should i use to push the new one into place so that it stays?

A dowel or metal tube of the proper size should press it in there and trap it pretty well. You can clean it with acetone thoroughly and use a toothpick to apply a very small amount of Permatex around the rim first to hold it in place. It'll probably stay put on its own though.

I forgot to mention, I usually form the screen slightly into a dome and insert it with the convex side facing out. That way when you press it into place and flatten the dome, the edges of the screen dig in, especially if it's a plastic backplate. It may not help, but it makes me feel good lol.

Yep! I see that the screen is dished so that it will grip the backing plate. It is a metal plate. If you check out my so it begins post. I posted pictures of the cleaned and overhauled babe bee and was able to run it today. Can't tell you the range of emotions the sound and smell of nitro fuel brought back.

That's for your taking the time to respond rusty

I sure will. I saw the title but haven't gotten to read it yet.
