Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
If anyone was curious I took my mouse engine tank off and was expecting to find a missing or skewed venturi gasket, but nope it was there and in good shape. I tested the needle function by blowing through the pickup with the NV fully closed and sure enough I could blow past it. Besides drilling the venturi opening The backplate and NV are stock so it must be a manufacturing defect.
I pulled that backplate off of a late NIB black widow.

Must be nice to have an engine that you can just prime and start!! What was Kim using for fuel?

Here's a break down of the top 4 the last three years, it kind of puts things in perspective of what a realistic RPM can be achieved with a reedie! Not a real big difference between the two classes.

Hey Guys
sorry It's been awhile. Just wanted to tell everyone I had a great time helping Kim with the Tach race. I know Im a girl, but I really like prepping the engines. It was a great race. and congrats to everyone.. Just wanted everyone to know that it was run fair and square, but if anyone is interested I can be bought next year. Diamonds, sports cars and dark chocolate will work...LOL. Just teasing!! thanks again for letting me be a part of the fun!!!

Thanks Susie. Sounds like you're outta my league though.
We appreciate your help, I know the Tach Race is really tedious work. It's disappointing that we don't have any more girls here... none that we know of anyway.

While my engines are winging their way back down under, I haven't heard anything about the shipping cost Kim. Fair is fair. I'll pay shipping as soon as I know what it cost. Just 'cos I ran last doesn't mean I get any special favors.
Hope the engines are safe & sound. Looks like I lost my first package from the US this time after 3 years of ebay purchasing. Two Gilbert 7s are gone without a trace once they were put on the plane. Probably means that one should pack in the largest box you can to ensure it's not easy to slip in the jacket.

Hey Rod!
I replied to you P.M., but it may have not made it out through my Dial-Up Line! It should be there now.
Sorry to hear about your Ebay win, hope it eventually gets to you.
Your engines went out early last week. Pleas elet me know as soon as they arrive, and thanks again for entering them in the Tach Race!

Gilberts arrived
Well, my record stays intact. 2 Gilbert 7s arrived today safe & sound. Someone obviously neglected to scan the package when it got off the plane. Unfortunately only one has a head & I haven't tested it yet. I currently have them soaking as both were very stuck & dirty. Best way to buy them I say. It means they were obviously running prior to storage & weren't cleaned. No-one's tried to clean them up or run them since & because they appear dirty, they don't attract so much interest from buyers. Gives me the chance to clean them up carefully to ensure no damage is done.

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
yep, when I'm shopping on feeBay or a swap meet, I like the gooped up/dirty engines the best as there often overlooked, but you have to look carefully (on the small engines) for plier marks. On larger engines dark brown caster may not be a good sign, as its probably got some hours on it and likely ran peaked out.

Check out my Gilbert clean-up reports over on 049 collectors. So far so good (if breaking a backplate is good).

Aussie Bees are home
Well, my 2 Aussie Bees made it home today. Thanks Susie for making sure they were all safe & sound for the return trip.
Thanks, Kim, Susie, Bernie or whoever for the bonus as well. Now I feel guilty for whining about coming last.
Looks like I'll need to do some hot-rodding before next year's event. If Novice is re-introduced I've already got an engine picked out for that. Kim, shipping cost will be returned to you a.s.a.p. Thanks again.

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
Hey Kim,
That's a good point. Where was the novice class?
Not complaining, I know it's a tough go with having a lot of classes. I remember the first time I entered in novice as I was really nervous submitting an engine and going up against some of the big dogs so I was happy that the class was available.
Perhaps re-introducing that class would pick up participation?
Ron

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
I don't know about a Novice class, but I like the idea of a totally stock (no mods period) Babe Bee/Golden Bee class.
This would give a first timer a chance to enter and we wouldn't need to figure out who is a novice and who isn't or what kind of changes can be made to the engine and still be regarded as a 'novice' engine.

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
Well, "Stock" is probably what I really meant. I'm the novice here.
Now that I have figured things out & found my PMs, I'd like to thank Crankbender for his generous "losing" prize that he passed on to me (the loser) and Cox International for providing it in the first place. It goes a long way towards covering the shipping there & back. Also, thanks to Mark for sending me the winning prop off his unlimited. That will allow me to do some further testing of my own engines with a neatly balanced prop.
Upwards and onwards

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
Hey Guys,
I'm definitely in for a Novice or Stock Class for next year's Race. This year's change was the result of a conversation that between Mark and myself that happened fairly late in the game. The number of entries has not been an issue since I started using an indoor test-stand, and can keep the temps constant throughout the race.
I'll also be in contact with Matt and Bernie a little earlier, so it won't slip up on them.
Rod, you GOT to quit referring to yourself and your engines as "losers" !! It was great to have your entries come from clear across the globe to compete, and I certainly hope you'll join in again next year!
Speaking of Rod...REALLY glad that the Engines are there!!!!
I'm thinking they are all home now, but will check later today (on a faster Internet service!). I apparently didn't post the tracking numbers for everyone's entries (THOUGHT I did...but no) like I'd intended, but that just seems to be the way with me here lately.
Please let me know if yours hasn't arrived, 'cause they should all be back to their coops by now.

Re: Tach Race 2014 !!!!!!!!!
Well, the "loser" line isn't an indication of some distant psycological disorder or post traumatic stress or childhood abuse or something. The self esteem is just fine thanks. I've gotta talk about something! If you can't poke fun at yourself then life's just no fun at all. If I poked fun at other people I might get into trouble.
Cheers.
Rod.
