Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
This year i actually tore down engines and checked them over, last year my mouser was DNF, which i found out when i tore it down was due to the pick-up/spring being clogged up...no fuelie, no runny!
This afternoon went out to run 'em as the sun was fading (had to go disc golfing) and of couse the tach battery is dead (new tach 2-3 months ago, first time i used it) mouser fired right up and run steady, to late to test unlimited, but should be ok....i hope. lol.
Kim, they won't get mailed till Tuesday, but with priorty mail they should be there friday, if for some reason they don't make it, no biggie, i'm just S.O.L. i had plenty of time to get them mailed.
p.s.
Also, if you guys haven't tried Brenies 5x3 competition props, your missing the boat, they're nice! Just like Leroy made back in the day!

They should be like Leroy's as they were made on Leroy's original mould, by the same supplier that moulded them for Cox for decades. It is the son now running that company; whereas his dad used to manage Cox a long time ago.
The only difference is that the supplier of the compound now uses a darker dye.
Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
That's why I thought i didn't have one until I had shipped my engine. I thought it was a blackie. I hope it runs as fast as the MA, but it is heavier. I checked that when I found the dang thing.Cox International wrote:...The only difference is that the supplier of the compound now uses a darker dye.

ah, I was wondering why it was darker!!!
Rusty, it will tach a little less then the master airscrew on the ground, but it will pull alot better in the air, twist the blade and you'll see it's not gonna flex nearly as much.
Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
Yeah, I figured that. It was holding no less than 19.6, bouncing off of an occasional 20k with the MA, so mmmaybe I'll still have a shot at a top 3. Going up against some of these guys is pretty tough.Mark Boesen wrote:RknRusty wrote:That's why I thought i didn't have one until I had shipped my engine. I thought it was a blackie. Can an engine be entered on behalf of another CEF member?

Ok, so what your saying for example: You got a second (or third) really strong running mouser and you want to enter it as Billy Bob's engine and somehow it opens up and wins 2st by 300 rpm! Billy Bob wins, but had nothing to do with building engine and maybe the guy that actually built a engine and spent time breaking it in now got bump out of a top three spot by your 'second' engine.
When I first read your post I thought cool idea, we can send proxy engines in for other members, but then the more I thought about it, the more I realized the down side of it.

Ok, scratch that idea. I see your point and I never thought of that.

Hey Guys,
We're now 3 days off from the Tach Race. If possible, could I get each of you to check in with what you'll be entering in each class?
I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect.
Also, several of the entries are being mailed out fairly late in the game. If it looks like we're still gonna have several in transit by Saturday, would it be OK to postpone the race 'till the next weekend?
I can move it if needed and we'll run with a full field.
Kim

Travis:
Unlimited - Killer Widow 051 (I still need to know if I can run a 051, I assume I can)
Mouse - (Either Suz's Pink Panther or the Patriot)
Brandon:
Mouse - Black Widow
PeeWee - PeeWee 020
Logan:
Mouse - Silver Widow (just for fun since I built it for him, more brother vs. brother )
I'm flexible on weekends, just let me know, so i can change our hotel reservations.

Re: "The Original Tach Race 2013"
Tracking says you have my "faked" black widow...or would it be a "frakenwidow" since not a single part was from a black widow other than the new fuel tank assembly.
This should be mouse.
It has a product crank and crankcase (keep that armor handy), Tee Dee SPI cylinder and piston, black widow tank assembly and backplate with mylar reed, and a standard head on it. I also have silicone tube on the needle, and an aluminum fuel pickup set at the 9:00 position.
I included a few head gasket shims since there is only 1 in there as I run 15% nitromethane. The cylinder may not be fully broken in since it only has a few tanks of fuel through it.
Is popping the head and dropping a second gasket in for a second run allowable?
Phil

Rusty checking in:
Sent via UPS Saturday - One Killer Babe for unlimited. A babe bee crankshaft and case with a Killer Bee backplate and an old style SPI open port cylinder/Merlin head.
P.S If you can arrange for Travis' Killer Widow to throw a rod, that'll be okay with me.

Not for me... the only other 051 piston I have is in my Killer Bee... I'd hate to part that out

Hey Everybody,
I think most of you know, but as a reminder to everybody that part of this contest is to set-up a engine prior to mailing, once the CD gets it the only thing he should do is fuel it and tach it! I'm sorry, I guess I should of spelled that out a little clearer in the rules.
p.s.
Phil, w/ a std. head you're fine with one gasket and prolly better off with lighter crank! fyi, I use a std. crank, polish the crap out of it and grinder down with the dremel.
