Darn good plane needs some more flying rewards.
I am only happy once my projects have some vid runs.
Either way....I AM DONE WITH THIS FIELD...!!
I have scoped out a better field [looks like a hay field] but I think it would be wise to spend a half hour to WALK THE FIELD GOOD before flying.

Hi Charles, I hope that you're able to locate that model... but be careful if/when you go back out in that swamp.. seriously. People have gotten trapped in the mud/peat-bog (suction..) where they could not free themselves. You may want to carry a rigid pole/stick with you.. which could give you some leverage to push-against if that happened.
Have your mobile phone with you.. for sure.

Re: COX .020 POWERED SPEEDSTER
I sometimes put this into my small RC planes: https://www.ebay.com/itm/114281720575?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pOLbrmPSQdW&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=rP7YBAVdSR2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
It is connected between one of the servos and the receiver, and if the servo is not activated for e.g. 10 seconds, it starts to beep. ( if you connect it to e.g the elevator or aileron servo which are frequently activated mid-air, it will not beep during flight)
So when your plane lands in deep grass, do not touch the joystick of the servo to which it is attached, and it will start to beep after some time and helps you find the model.
Unfortunately every second one you buy is scrap, (no wonder, made in China), but at least not too expensive.

András, I had one of those in my Q-Tee when I last crashed it. Helped me locate it about 10 meters further than where I thought it went down, in knee high grass, in a field adjacent to the model plane park. I could not see the plane until I was almost on top of it. Such a device can be a "life saver".

Thanks for the compliment [but I uploaded the photo that didn't show all the flaws]
I flew at a club field that was next to a corn farmer's field.
I didn't see it happen but the farmer took a shot at a plane that was over his field..

Thanks for the advice...!
A walking stick is handy to steady yourself on the uneven ground that's hidden by foliage too.

I'm SOLD...!
No luck today...I walked what I think should be beyond the possible impact area.
It's good exercise though...might be better than walking faster on smooth and level ground.

Been there, seen that, done that...not having a dedicated model airfield in my living area - except in summer when I move to our lakeside house where there is a small airfield nearby - I too fly in a meadows skirted by deep shrub and thicket, which is inpenetrable and has become the graveyard to a few of my wandering RC planes..I would show up with bruises and bleeding scratches after my failed searches, with a bitter expression on my face ...most of the time it was my poor navigation to blame, having steered the plane over the bushes where I lost Visual line of sight..once it was a loosened contact between the receiver and on-board battery..I made my vows on what not to do in future.

Re: COX .020 POWERED SPEEDSTER
You could make a slight detour to R/C flight and go control line. I've learned that the larger models can be fun also. The planes of larger wingspan of 3 to 4 feet with 400+ square inch wing area, powered by a .35 old cross scavenge or more modern .25 to .30 Schneurle flown on 50 to 60 foot lines can be thrilling.
Haven't built one yet, but flew with Rom Cribbs about 8 years ago. He had a 26 inch span Baby Clown with 200 square inch wing powered by a hopped up Cox .049 Medallion on bladder pressure, flew as well as the big ones I think on 44 feet lines, did the full stunt pattern.
I and others have home improvised stooge to hold airplane when flying solo, release plane by tugging on a string to release it, a must when flying solo. A few here have a padded sock device to hold outer wing panel fastened to a launch stool. A tug on the C/L lines pulls wing out of the sock and then you're flying.

Re: COX .020 POWERED SPEEDSTER
Wising you success on finding the plane TD…. Something I’ve noticed when a tiny one goes down is they tend to be closer in than I initially thought….. Depth perception can be deceiving….The electric foamy in the photo spent a night in the field after looking for it for a long time after it crashed…. Found it the next day much closer than expected… I was testing 1S servos for possible use for small gas power….I put it in a terminal velocity dive … Servo was strong enough to pull out but the KFM airfoiled wing snapped the tips off…. Not the wing’s fault, I had to light of a spar….. Since have beefed it up….
One more thought on downed planes in thick fields, It’s hard to remember after the excitement of a crash, But get a landmark in the line of site where it went down …. Maybe a tree or something on the horizon…It helps walking a straighter line to it….

All I've done for the past few years is fly C/L in my back yard, so I'm eager to fly more RC now.
I've spent more time in the hobby flying a 40 sized 3D stunt plane [Morris Hobbies SuDoKoi with Rossi .45] than any other plane. Morris Hobbies 3D planes came out just as I was beginning to get bored with RC...so they rekindled my interest.
Walt Morris was the owner.
About 10 years after I bought the kit and engine combo...I called him up to get replacement parts for the engine. The whole time he was taking my order for parts I was telling him about how great the plane and engine combo was.
At the end of the phone call I asked him how much the bill was and he said the engine was under warranty.
I told him that I don't mind paying for an engine that probably had 50 gallons run through it...but he wouldn't take my money...

This is good advice..the smaller planes will be found closer in than what you first thought. What I could do is to make a model of my model...a 20 inch wing and 14 inch fuselage...paint it red and place it out in the field where I've generally been looking. Then walk back to where I stood when it crashed [I marked that spot with rocks]..then see if my sense of distance is way out of whack.

My bad, you're a seasoned C/L pilot.TD ABUSER wrote:All I've done for the past few years is fly C/L in my back yard, so I'm eager to fly more RC now.
More often than not I've met R/C pilots with little or no C/L time.
It's bad for me to assume, good going.

I don't know very many "hard core" CL Flyers who fly RC either.
The late Dirty Dan Rutherford did a little of everything and got paid to write about it in the model magazines. He was pretty great at everything he tried and a great model journalist too.
I'd say no more than 1% of the hard core CL Combat flyers fly anything but combat.
In their minds, there aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with the demands of chasing after the yearly MACA rankings.
Same goes for CL Aerobatics flyers...besides constantly practicing they are always building the next greatest plane to compete with.
Here's one of my best back yard CL flyers.
Scratch built and powered with a Cyclon .061....

No wonder your neck hurts I did see a guy that had a Miss Martha R/C that would take off straight up with a 2-3 ft. roll it was crazy , I have one built but has some elevator flutter i need to fix . I don't see how you keep up with that kind of speed !!
You could do the pattern in about 30 seconds LMAO !

YES...control line is hard on the neck...!
I also remember when "Competition Fun Fly" RC planes were a thing before "3D RC Planes" became a thing.
Many of the Fun Fly planes lacked the side area of a fuselage so they looked more like CL Combat planes that were converted to RC.
One of the most impressive RC Fun Fly planes I ever saw used a Webra .32 helicopter engine that was bolted to a plane that probably only weighed 2 pounds.
Flutter is pretty typical with these planes and the way to cure it is to NEVER FLY THEM FAST...

I failed to get a background reference point like a tree or a cell tower...shows how out of practice I am.....
but .........
I JUST FOUND THE PLANE ON DAY #4 SO CLOSE TO HOME THAT I AM VERY EMBARRASSED BY HOW CLOSE IT WAS..!
I found it in the 7th or 8th hour of the 4 day search laying in a rut only about 200 feet from where I was standing last week. I was standing on top of a massive, 300 foot long, 300 foot wide dirt mound about 20 feet above the surrounding area so I lost visual contact before the plane landed.
The little "scale model" of this model I tied to a fence post that was about 500 feet from where I was standing and my plan was to walk back to where I was flying to get a better feel for what a plane this tiny would have looked like at that range. It was during my walk back to the place where I was flying that I stumbled into my little plane.....
Thanks again for all of your sympathy, support and great advice...!

I don't see how you can charge such ridiculously low prices for your work.
With the time it would take me to carve out such a well engineered product [about a month] I would have to charge about $4000 for such a masterpiece, O-ring and all
The engine was a little water logged but it ran a couple minutes worth of fuel just now.
The 200 mah LIFE battery was dead but I'll try charging it and see if it's a goner or not.
