Mock .020 store display engine.
Hello Cox experts. I need some help identifying this engine. I read or saw some info on an engine like this a long time ago. I’m almost certain it was a mock engine for hobby shop displays. Wether just as an engine display, or in a plane etc, I am not sure. It has an uncut cylinder with no piston. The crank is also uncut, with no connecting rod pin, just a solid cylindrical block. It spins when prop is turned. If anyone can enlighten me I sure would appreciate it.

Re: Mock .020 store display engine.
That's an interesting piece. Uncut cylinders can occasionally be found as supposedly they were sold to people to built custom performance engines. A good number of the unfinished parts were likely leaked from the factory over the years with engineers and executives bringing parts home, etc. Within the past decade or so, a few parts lots have appeared on eBay that were full of R&D unfinished or prototype parts.

Thanks for your answer. I was almost sure I saw or read of a display engine much like this one. The more people I talk to about this engine, the more answers I get much like yours. I’m starting to think that this is exactly what you mentioned… either factory workers grab, or discarded material from factory that people have salvaged! Thanks!

The cylinder is hollow, but looks like it was stopped short of a few steps of completion. A piston will not fit in as the hole hasn’t been taken to thaw proper dimension. I placed a regular.020 cylinder on the right for comparison.
