New guy checking in. :)
Long time C/L and some time RC flyer checking in.
I bought my first Cox .049 Space Bug engine sometime in 1954 and second one shortly there after, still have the second one. First one is out in the woods somewhere in New Hampshire.
Caught the bug once again when my son was in his early teens and again most recently in my retirement years.
I have bought many well used engines on ebay the past couple of months and have enjoyed restoring them.
I leave them mostly "as found", and after cleaning them up mount them on six foot long 1X2's:
Got in the attic and dug out some of my old C/L's. Center two are scratch built the P-38 wit twin Golden Bees and the flaps to it's right was made out of a tail section of a crashed R/C airplane. The Nieuport 28 is one I built about 35 years ago. Really like it so I found a vintage kit and am building another.
I owned a 1964 Buick Riviera many years ago and stumbled across a Cox model in the same blue color. Then found a Beige model and so on.
I have enjoyed rediscovering this hobby and I have enjoyed reviewing some of your posts.

Welcome to the forum! I like your engine display racks! My engines are either sitting in a box, or in pieces right now..
I also am drawn to your P38.. and would love to see some close-up photos!

Engine display
After seeing rsv1cox's engines mouted up on a couple of boards, (welcome by the way), I dug up a picture of mine from a vintage & old wares expo a few years ago. The engines have been swapped around a little since then and I regularly take the board around to vintage machinery rallies. They attract a lot of interest and I'm regularly asked if I can fire them all up together.
The old guys particularly recall the old Aussie Taipan Diesels. Some fondly, some not so fondly, with scars to prove it.
I have since put a selection of my 1/2A stuff on a flat sheet of plywood for display, including Coxs, Cubs, Wen Macs, Andersons etc. Most people remember the Coxs from their youth, but the others weren't so common in their day out here.

No, but I did consider fitting a prop to the Mix Master and seeing what she'd do.
For those interested, you'll notice a classic bike on the right. There were lots of then at this show. (It's not mine).
The Cox engines on my display board have now been replaced and are mounted to the 1/2A display I mentioned. I've added a few extras to the board in picture including my Gilberts, a Mk-17 diesel, Torpedo Green Head .15 and a McCoy Red Head .35. My whole hobby (the powered part at least) started out with that little Mills diesel in the picture.

Thanks for the welcome and for others chipping in here with projects and photos. Nice stuff.
Attached some pictures of the P-38. I tried to find some old pictures when it was fresh with no battle damage, but came up short.
I built it from scratch building up the wing but mostly used hollowed out balsa blocks for the twin booms and cockpit. Just to be clear.....I'm not good at this but the result was passable and it flies well. Really nice when the .049's are in sync. I get them that way then top off the tanks.
I modeled this on the later versions of the P-38. I would have liked to model it on the earlier more streamlined P-38 but the engine nacelles would not be large enough to house the engines.

Re: New guy checking in. :)
Thanks for posting the P38 photos! That has always been one of my favorite aircraft. How old is it.. and how long has it been since it's flown? I have a Comet kit (#3504-34" w/s).. but it's all "printed balsa" ribs/bulkheads etc. (as opposed to die-cut) which will require considerable time and patience to lay-out. It's on my "bucket-list" though.. It is a rubber-powered design.. but I figured I could adapt the nacelles to fit the later Cox .049 reed-valve product engines, with a single 1oz. clunk-tank mounted in the central-fuse pod.. substitute 1/16" sq. spruce for the wing spar.. and beef-up the landing gear struts with 1/16" music-wire for a 1/2A control-line scale flyer.
Any plans on flying yours in the near future?

Hey, Rsv, I beg to differ. That it flies well says you actually Are pretty good at this.rsv1cox wrote: Just to be clear.....I'm not good at this but the result was passable and it flies well.

Re: New guy checking in. :)
I love those Comet plans roddie but agree, cutting out all of those parts would take a lot of Xacto skills and patience. Looking at them I can see how much I missed the scale of the cockpit module. Part of it was by necessity as the canopy was one I had on-hand and no where near scale for the P-38.
Last time I flew it was about 25 years ago. I would guess I have about twenty flights on it without a significant negative event. I would always top off the inside engine last hoping that the outside engine would quit first. If it didn't it would surely spin in towards me.
Wing loading is quite high and when the last engine quit it would fall like a rock, but by that time I had it near the ground anyway.
I sold the original GB's long ago and as mentioned recently replaced them. When I did I neglected to reshim the engines using small washers to get the thrust plane right, really noticable in the nose-on photo. Took me awhile to get it right originally, so I will have to go through that all over again.
When I googled tether Rivieras I found that video Shawn. I gather that you still have it as for a moment I thought it might be mine as the tires are well worn.
I haven't fired any of them up yet. However the one on the left is complete and has not be ran, so I will probably never try that one. The two blue Rivieras have been well used. The first Riveria I bought came in a package with the Baja Bug and the F1 Wen-mac racer.

Shawn, just noticed your Southern Maryland location. We lived in Great Mills for many years then moved to Leonardtown then to Florida. We now live in West Virginia.

Wow small world!
Great Mills is about 15 minutes from me. I'm originally from Waldorf but I moved to St. Mary's County in 85 until 96
when I moved down to Jacksonville with some friends for a few months then I moved down to Seminole County in 97 (which is near Orlando) when I met my wife and I lived there for over 10 years. My parents gave my family and I some property so we moved back to St. Mary's County about 4 years ago.
As for W.V., I have family on my Mom's side from there and we have spent the last 3 Summer vacations at Babcock State Park in Clifftop.
Where in Florida did you live?

Re: New guy checking in. :)
First lived in Pensacola when I was in the Navy, then transferred to Jacksonville (lived in Orange Park) for five great years. When we retired we moved down to Spring Hill in Florida and spent about twenty years there before moving to a little no stop light town here in WV called Capon Bridge.
My daughter lived in Valley Lee for awhile and we always enjoyed a trip down to Evans restaurant near Piney Point. Nice country there in SM.
