Oh, and no jokes about hair or choreography. We know we're bald and static. I'd just look stupid trying to dance.

Today, much of the mainstream news is not forthright, which reminds me of Don Henley's Dirty Laundry. Following is some background on his song:
https://ultimateclassicrock.com/don-henley-dirty-laundry/ When Don Henley Trashed the Media With 'Dirty Laundry'
... and the parody with Henley's original music, enjoy!UCR wrote:It wasn't just his headline-making antics that frustrated Henley. "I'm a news junkie. I watch the news a lot - local news, national news," he explained in a TV interview years later. "And I got tired of seeing these talking heads up there stripping people of their dignity. I got tired of the sensationalism of the death of certain celebrities. You know, John Belushi, Natalie Wood, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis. I just got sick of reporters running up to some grieving Mexican woman down in the barrio whose child had just gotten shot in a gang fight and saying, 'How do you feel about that?' If that isn't the most absurd question you could ask … . So I decided to write a song about it."
And the insanity would be incomplete without Eric Clapton's White Room:

I've posted a couple of videos of our band previously and a number of people seemed to enjoy them. We had opportunity to do a concert in a very nice venue with full tech support, so we decided to try to do a decent job of recording & filming the whole shebang. Hope you enjoy it. I don't expect you to watch it all the way through, but skip through and see what you think. I would recommend one of my favorites at the 21:50 minute mark.
WARNING- If you are offended by Christian themes, I'm sorry, that's what floats our boat!! You can always skip to the next song.
Just checking to make sure that people have been able to open the Youtube clip. Just curious because I haven't seen much (any!!) feedback.
It's apparently an "unlisted" video at this stage. Not sure what that means, but apparenty my son couldn't get it to work.

Hi Oldenginerod,
I put a thumbs up on the y-tube link.
The Steve Messer's Strange Country band is awesome !
Great music and performance.
The 21.50 song is on my playlist for when the Humidex gets over 40C here !
Thanks for sharing.
As a kid, building planes and Cox Engines were the latest tech,
'Don Messer's Jubilee' was on B/W TV and radio here in Canada.
Sort of an Ed Sullivan show here, at the same time.
WARNING !
This was the first time 'twirling skirts' were shown on TV in Canada.

There is another Steve Messer muso in the USA, as well as another band called "Strange Country". Could get confusing.
The only overseas performance from Steve was a number of years ago when he toured Canada with our pianist/Uke player Peter York. The rest of the band couldn't make it, but Steve was very impressed at the reception that he got from the locals.

Very nice band and well produced video Rod…. Strong lead vocalist and does a great job with that slide on the guitar…..The guy on the bass did a good job too …..Couldn’t help but notice the lefty on rhythm guitar …. I met a guy once that was a left handed guitar player, But he didn’t have a left handed instrument, He just learned to play a right handed guitar upside down, Weird…. Being involved with music adds a nice spice to life…. Fifty years this year for me with guitar and never get tired of it…. Always something new to learn…

Ah, you have us figured out. Our lefty was exactly the same. Learnt on a right handed instrument upside down like you say. Can still play either way.
We were pretty pleased with the video because it was basically a school project for the production team, all students at the school. Main guy (Wes) is an ex-student and now employed as the venue manager. Pulled a team of students together to do the filming. Our regular sound guys did the sound. You don't get to see much of the backdrop, but a young female student was given the task to listen and read through all the songs and project appropriate images to the songs. Had our backs to it but she apparently did an amazing job matching the pictures to the songs.

Did you meet Albert King?
Does look kinda weird, but the sound… I have that Concert on vinyl (I think it’s the same one in Filmore), one of my favourite records.

I’m on a J.J. Cale kick lately . My son got me 2 of his albums for Christmas and I picked up another from e-bay. I think he wrote 3 of Eric Clapton's big hits

Hi All,
I do not get to post much here.
I do enjoy this Cox Engine Forum. I Thank You all very much for the great content.
I learn more, than I can add,
And it is a daily thing for me.
+90 Mum and Dad are OK.
(thanks for not asking about the situation here)
I like this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37iREbROyb0
The 'woo hoo' part in the middle...
Matches any Cox engine I have ever heard. (not counting 1/2ANut's videos here )
Plus, I like plucky Mandolines.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi All,
The Eclipse will pass here just west of Toronto, Canada. April 8th.
6.5 minutes of 'totality', and the weather so far looks flyable...
So, my 20min flight time 24"Buzzard Bombshell is going up.
Goal is to 'Fly Into the Sunset' and 'Fly Into the Sunrise' in one flight.
Not on my Bucket List, but someone has to do it.
I am curious if the transparent yellow covering will, 'Burst into Flames'...
Obviously,
Pink Floyd 'Dark Side of the Moon' is on the playlist.
Any others you can think of?
Somehow, in the 'Totality'...
This should work:

Thanks Bob,
The last eclipse here was ~20 yrs ago doing the 'pinhole camera' thing with my 7yr old niece.
Remember the birds being confused...
I want to see if any wind drops during it.
Flight time will be 3:10 to 3:30
Weather forecast has changed to cloudy with sunny breaks... 10km/hr winds.
Spring here is usually too windy to fly...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi All,
T-minus 4hrs and counting to the Eclipse...
Everything is so far, so good.
The nice test flights yesterday, found a field that will be in 'totality' for 6 min...
For this song:
Max Webster, In Context to the Moon,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys-FqyYqHSU
40% chance of showers.
100% chance of me doing it.
If I had Cox fuel...
It would be way more fun...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi All,
T-minus less than 1hr here to the Eclipse.
Everything electric, I have is on charge or has fresh batteries.
Even my old Sony Walkman with an original cassette tape...
Is cued at 15:30 for a 'Great Gig in the Sky'...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztrYoTn4Sws
I painted white and black 'Eclipse invasion stripes' on the wingtips because transparent yellow is horrible against grey clouds.
I find all this very funny,
Some form of 'Dark Humour'... I guess !
See you on the other side
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi All,
That was Fun! ( I am easily amused. )
Wing tip stripes were worth it and washed off nice because it did not get a chance to dry.
~60% patchy clouds. The slight breeze turned dead calm. Temp dropped a few degrees.
The non-school soccer field 3kms away was the perfect spot.
I am glad I got my 'Eclipse' flight in.
I will be 106yrs old when the next one comes around here... !
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Glad you got your “flight of the eclipse” Dave….. Very unique….I thought about it but it was too windy …. You’ll have to paint a little sun disc under the cabin windows now

Thanks Levent,
I like the mood/vibes on that one...
Canadian icon Joni Mitchell at age 80, sang one of her songs.
The smile on her face, 'in the end', brings tears of joy:
https://www.grammy.com/videos/joni-mitchell-both-sides-now-2024-grammys-performance-66th-annual-grammy-awards
She was ~20 when 'Both Sides Now' hit the AM radio airwaves here.
The middle of 'Cox Frenzy' here.
Some kids had transistor radios on their bikes.
Sometimes we had to wait till a song was over, before we could start our Coxes...
It was like a circus, with kids being kids.
This is her original version, imagine it on AM mono radio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbn6a0AFfnM
There was other music/stuff going on too...
Take care,
Have fun,

My music mate Steve named his firstborn Jessica. Lucky she was a girl
Oh!! And since posting this I see that Dickey Betts just passed away.
For those interested, Devon Allman (Gregg's son) and Duane Betts ( Dickey's son) have their own band, apparently doing a pretty good job of the Allman Brothers Band songs as well as their own stuff.
