Hi Oldenginerod,
First I have listened to Broderic and the Dingos...
Thanks. Sorry for our loss.
I bet you never heard Canadian music at that time.
Amazingly similar.
That 80s amazing tribute to Andrew Durant is increadable.
I hear the start of many great Aussie groups,
That dominated airwaves here, after that...
Someone said, "You can cage the singer, not the song".
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Joni Mitchel, Neil Young, Heart. I remember them and more. Being a Commonwealth country we probably had similar tastes/roots. Trouble was that half the world thought that Canadian singers were American, Australians were English and Kiwis were Australian. They probably didn't try to correct the misconception because it was better for sales and popularity.
Actually, many of the Aussie bands in the 60s came from migrant detention centres. Lots of bands out here were formed by English, Scottish and Irish migrants. They didn't quite fit in to society so expressed themselves through music to gain local credibility. Broderick Smith himself was born in England.

Hi Oldenginerod,
I have been close to AM/FM radio most my life,
Just west of Toronto, Canada. (can get almost everything, like it all)
But when,
Aussie/Kiwi hit here, it was big time.
Here is one of my favourites:

This one's for Roddie.
Ok, so I'm investing waaaay too much time in this music nostalgia, but I can't sign off without including this guy. Lachy Doley from South Australia.
Can you believe this. Google him on YouTube. Well worth a look.
For Roddie's sake- Standard rig is 1957 Hammond C3 through a Leslie 122. Slight mods but nothing serious. What a sound!!

Hi Oldenginerod,
I will google Lachy Doley. Did he fly Cox .049 Control Line?
There was an awesome Aussie 'wave' of sound on FM radio here.
Picture this:
2L Toyota pickup. 4x9 speakers times four. 1000W amp.
Park on the 'hill' with a nice girl to listen to the radio.
This song comes up:
(no video back then, just FM radio)
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=kylie+minogue#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:7f08df2c,vid:c18441Eh_WE
Cranked it up. Beth loved the song, we danced all round the truck.
Turned it down, listened to more FM, then it was time to go.
Wrwww. did not start. Beth suggested to open the hood. I did.
She hops in the drivers side, puts it in reverse, pushing the clutch in.
I watch as my 'new!' truck rolls down hill, chasing it, engine fires...
By the time I got halfway down the hill,
It was revving it close to redline.
As I got close, the engine went to idle.
Beth said, "close the hood, and I'll give you a ride home"
As she revved the engine up and down...
Drove us home.
Best first date ever...
Beth grew up in a scrapyard.
Together for awhile, we moved our other ways...
My Kylie Minogue story,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. Moral of the story is, I like copycat brittany spears music, Beth did not...

Thanks for tunin' in to the thread Dave. Here's one that I played and sang.., when I did a solo piano/vocal thing back 20 or so years ago.
Re: music vids.. some of your favorites
When I was young, and had fast enough reflexes to stay way ahead of any combat wing we flew in Olmsted's Ballpark...THIS was one of the songs that ran through my brain, and out to the plane:

Kim, nice, but how can that combat wing rock, if you don't add a little swing?

That was fast combat, how about slow combat?
But please, I am not promoting the background song, especially if you really knew what the Spanish lyrics do say!

Hi All,
Getting warmer summers here...
Found this, a prolific undiscovered Toronto Music Artist. (Lydia Ainsworth)
Somehow recorded in the winter/pandemic.
Cool:

Hi gg,
Are you sure?
Here are some more details live, a year later...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSOyxkHjwDE
It was the 80s,
Echo Beach was the cool place to get north of Toronto for a Summer Weekend...
The song still gets played on radio here every summer...
I do not doubt your sax expertness...
Take care,
Have fun,

Sax dude starts playing the baritone sax, then transitions to alto sax. When my wife lived in Canada 40 years ago, she and friends would head out from Winnipeg to Clear Lake. One time a year or two after, I accompanied her to visit friends during Winter at Portage LaPrairie.HalfaDave wrote:Hi gg, Are you sure? Here are some more details live, a year later...

Hi gg,
Heart, was just more great mainstream FM. Almost overwhelming...
The small cool local stations played music from here.
Here is another groundbreaking Martha and the Muffins song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7avJBkLGWg
Weird, very cool sax again...
GG, as a sax expert,
Any chance you could put your top 10 here? Or 5?
I bet everyone else would like to hear...
Take care,
Have fun,

Hi Oldenginerod,
Heart is great. Big sounds those days. 100watts X four nice speakers... Woofers/tweeters!
Don't get me started on Rush...
I like gg's smooth sax playing. Obviously, a very talented artist.
