Re: Recent engine acquisitions
I wonder what would happen if glued a Baby Bee on a train rail just before a four locomotive mile long freight train passed through.

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
I had to look that one up Levent , i have seen some crazy stuff and that is some more to add to the list . In the cold you would need a heater in the barn to warm that baby up before all that crank turning I had my deal with an older tractor when i was young , i turned it over but the handle slapped me to the ground (only once)

Ken Cook wrote:Is that the SR series K&B .40? I have the latest examples of the 6.5 RIRE series. One is ABC piston liner configuration and the other has a custom made AAC piston liner. Pretty stout engines and they do run well. I believe that's the engine of choice that Bill Wisniewski used.
I meant rear intake
I think it is later than the SR engines. From what I’ve read the version with the grooved prop driver is the best of them. I’d like to think that one day it will be mounted in a C speed airplane.

You need to give it a fancy title like, "Entrapó los platanos" (captured bananas in Spanish).

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
This 1cc AME with 3 bypass ports came in the mail this week, has the glued in RC Carb.
I put a older version first gen muffler on it and a Kamtechnik turbo plug adapter. The
muffler is straight through so should breath a bit better, a screamer with the turbo plug.
Shown with a new addition from APC 4.4x4 CL prop, used a prop washer from a G-Mark .03.
It fits inside the inset of the prop hub perfectly helping with alignment in conjunction with a
adapter ring / fuel line and aids by being a very light load on the engine.
56.1g as shown:
Update did a bit of breaking in time and then nudged the NV closer to peak:

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
Well, it’s been a while since my (or anyone else’s) post on this thread. It has been quiet for me on this front but occasionally a deal or two occur that just cannot be passed by. Here are some of my additions from this year:
These I bought from a guy that had bought a car load of stuff, not sure if tee seller was an estate or a packrat on the mend. This was all the Cox stuff in the lot, I have gotten better at passing by all the other stuff. The Pee Wee is unfortunately missing a mounting lug. The needle valves are taped on the propellers to protect them from shipping damage.
This was a little weird deal. A guy wanted a Chinese diesel I had, a ”Silver Sparrow” or something, and offered me this for a trade. It is in its original box but it has been mounted and run. Overall in a good shape though. Might ”steal” the RC specific parts for a Tee Dee
I had some large scale drawings I didn’t need, a guy wanted them and wanted to give something for return. I asked if he had an old engine or a project and he gave me this Fuji 19 or 21, forgot which it was. Supposed to need bearings, but upon closer inspection looks like the small end and piston pin have seized and worn the pin hole on the piston into oval. So this is another ”spare parts” engine.
One day I was having a meeting at my desk at home (been telecommuting since March), the doorbell rang and there’s a fellow with an airplane, asking if I want it. We had exchanged a few messages before about stuff, he had actually visited the Cox factory in the late ’70s. Along with the plane he gave a dealer brochure he got at the factory. Pics of that later The plane is some kind of pylon racer, equipped with a Tee Dee 049 with a Tatone muffler. The engine has seen better days, but should clean up nice.
Last but not least, I bought these from a guy in England, he was asking about the value of these in a Cox engine Facebook group, the appraisals varied but I gave him a price I would pay and told that I’ll actually buy them for that price. A week later he contacts me. These are stuck solid, but in very good shape. No tool marks, scratches, nothing. My first Golden Bee It’s been weird to have 50-60-something engines and not one Golden Bee... maybe they were not imported to Finland when new? Only seen a few of them around, strange considering the hundreds of thousands of them made.
So, what about you guys, what’s new

Yes, I saw that thread and it reminded me of this old one. Quite a fleet you have of those nice 290’s and many of them with the aftermarket mounts too

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
Just acquired this lil beauty off of ebay from a UK seller, at the equivalent of 45.7 USD + shipping, which was not a bad deal I guess.
First generation COX 051 TeeDee with No.5 thin wall cylinder. The size of the "5" stamp is larger than on later engines.
Tapered bore and piston.
Oiling hole at conrod bottom end.
Trumpet type high comp stock head.
First generation crankcase and crankshaft (without the No 2 stamp on the left mounting beam)
Tarno carb.
Had to replace its broken NV body with a new red one I bought from Mecoa some years ago.
Also replaced the prop screw with a Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw.
Hardly used engine, excellent compression. Cleaned her up before this photo session.
Before cleaning, upon arrival:
And after cleaning:
I cannot wait to start her up!!!

Thank you, Ron, I did not even know the 3-fin was an old-stock feature, only thought the trumpet combustion chamber was what makes it antique..

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
The trumpet should be on all your knurled TD heads. New or old unless it’s shaped different.

As a heads up, I tested this beauty on the test stand and read 24.2k with a black COX 5x4 prop sold by Bernie. Then I mounted it in the nose of my Toucan RC to spin a 4.7x4.5 APC prop and measured 22k static.. I flew two fantastic rounds in the field, but did not shoot a vid i.e. acted low profile - as much as an unmuffled TD051 allows you to stay unnoticed -, because the new drone law enacted in Hungary recently has sidelined all RC airplane fliers here as outlaws..I will not back down as long as my planes are not confiscated.

Re: Recent engine acquisitions
I went to many Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concerts in my younger years
and the one concert with Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks. ( I love Stevie - met her in person)
My brother worked at a radio station and sometimes got back stage passes.
Able to go to many concerts and back stages with my big brother.
Got a great signature (autograph) book filled with good names in it!
Thanks to my brother and the radio station he worked for (WJMK 104.3 FM -- The Magic)
Still have the Tee-shirt ( very worn out though)
My brother moved up to TV (audio/video tech.) at Channel 7 in Chicago (Big money!)

Wife and I are off to a Traveling Wilburys "review" concert on Saturday night. Features songs not only from the Wilburies, but also the hits of the individual members, including Tom of course.
Really looking forward to it

I unfortunately have never been to a Tom Petty and Heartbreakers gig, and with Tom unfortunately passing away, will certainly never will...but luckily there is a wealth of their songs on youtube that I love, like this one:
