Ron, those .15's are scary alright, but wait till you start flipping a .35, I still have anxiety starting one of my foxes.

Re: TD tach race 2012 (Engines on the way home)
I ran out of light!
I managed to get all the .049's .020's and .010's done. The numbers were less than I was expecting. I was beginning to think something was wrong with my equipment or setup, but the .010's were right where expected on the numbers. So I guess it is what it is.
The race so far has been real close with only a couple that stand out from the pack. I will post results tomorrow when I finish the .09 and .15 class.
I also had some trouble makers in the bunch so those with entries check your PM's this evening.
That is all.........

Re: TD tach race 2012 (Engines on the way home)
How much fuel did you use? Takes a lot of time swapping them out on the test stands. It would go faster of the holes were tapped in the blue test stands and not have to fiddle with 2-56 nuts that are coated in castor oil.
My TD 020 seemed anemic but I sent it anyway. I hope none of mine were trouble makers.....

Just shy of 1/2 quart. Your not kidding! It took forever to swap engines on and off. I was thinking the same thing about the tapped holes in the mount.

I forgot to mention this happened...... Twice.

I was thinking maybe it was a fluke the first time then it happened again. Both while running at peak.
Wanna hear the kicker? They were both on John Boy's engines!!!!!! Think he will be mad?

Regarding the TeeDee starter springs, It ain't you.
I been bitten by this one as well as others I've read about.
I think Rusty had this happen to him a while back.
Something about the revs and harmonic vibration playing tricks with the spring.(Barnyard physics)
I guess that catch part of the spring has to be bent way back.
Yoink the springs, and whip out the stick.

Re: TD tach race 2012 (Engines on the way home)
Yeah they both came off and were re-tested. Funny thing is other guys had springs on theirs and run with the same prop on the same stand. I feel bad......... Especially for the .020 spring as it's hard to find one.

Yeah mine ate one in mid flight. I got tired of it happening and quit using them. It ruined the prop every time it happened too.

Re: TD tach race 2012 (Engines on the way home)
Ron,
Don't beat yourself up. It's a leap of faith when
you send an engine off for something like this.
Any engine could just as easily be lost in the mail
or blow up on the stand. As you know, I didn't enter
this race, but when I entered last years Bee race I knew
anything could happen. I doubt any fellow forum member would
take you to task for a spring or a few scratches.
Ask Kim or Mark's analysts for help.
My ruminations.
Bob
Jacob-first post use of the word "rumination"?

Going to knock out the big dogs today. No starter springs on those! I will post final results later on this evening. That is if I have all my fingers

Re: TD tach race 2012 (Engines on the way home)
Ok guys here goes the moment has arrived, but first I just wanted to say thank you to all you guys who sent in engines and trusting me not to break them.
I learned a few things....
#1 flipping a lot of engines by hand is hard on the finger!
#2 not all TD's are created equal
#3 a TD will run backwards
#4 factory RPM figures are a best case scenario
#5 I hate 2-56 hardware
#6 TD .15's are animals
#7 tach races are fun!
So without further delay here are the numbers from greatest to least in each class.
.010 stock class
Mitch G. 27,720
John Boy 26,700
Jason B. 26,560

Ron,
Thanks again for hosting the event.
I guess I should have sent a reverse pitch prop for the TD 15
At least you got 2 of the 3 animals started!

No problem it was fun! I wonder if I was trying to start it too rich? From what I have read it tends to run backward when flooded. I suppose it's possible. I tried all kinds of settings on the NV and flipped the prop in both directions.
It's all boxed up now so I can't try it again. Let me know how it runs when you get it.

Crazy Momma and S.S.S. kept me in the middle of the pack !!!!!!!!
"Ahhhhhh!" Basking in the glory of mid-range performance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for doing this Ron!
Now, it's time to notify my Press Agent !!!!
Also, please keep "So Stock it's Silly" as a small token of appreciation for your valiant efforts, and return "Crazy Momma" when convenient...there's no rush as the Skunk Works has plenty of fish in the pan anyway!

The finger is fine, little tender perhaps. My right bicep and shoulder are very sore. I had to take some excedrin this morning.
Yeah I did not run the .050. I considered it, but seeeing as it was new and unrun I thought better of it.
To be honest the Special .15 MkII made me the most nervous. Not because of the size, more due to the rarity of it. It is a beautiful engine.
