"Tach Race 2012" Rules

"Tach Race 2012" Rules
Hey Guys,
Here are the final rules Mark and I have worked out for Tach Race 2012. I have relented and am referring to the new class as "Novice" rather that "Redneck" (those of KNOW who you are anyway!).
Please P.M. me if you would like to enter an engine, and I'll give you my mailing address. I'll be using my Post Office Box since I don't want anybody's pride and joy parked in a mailbox out on my county road.
Also, as I'd mentioned before, please include a description of your engine, listing the class in which you're entering, any mods you'd like to talk about, and it's name if you've assigned it one!
I need to receive all the engines by Thursday, January 5th so that I'll have time to sort everyone's entrys.
Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
_________________________________________________________________________
Unlimited
Any combination of Cox parts, reed or rear rotor.
Any porting, grinding, chopping, you think will work.
Any head/glow plug or glowhead, RR-1 or Rear rotor type of rear induction systems are fine.
NO front induction TD/Medallion crank/crankcase. NO Cyclon, VA, &
Norvel stock or modified to reed induction. Intent is that these be Cox-based engines like the Black Widow, Sure-Start, Space Hopper, RR-1, Space Hopper, etc.
___________________________________________________________________________
Mouse 1
Any AMA legal Cox rear reed, with tank. Except no Cyclon conversion.
See AMA rules for more info.
Fuel used will be Powermaster 30 nitro/20 oil 50/50 castor synthetic or equivalent. Prop is a APC 4.75"Dx4"P
__________________________________________________________________________
Novice
Novice class open to any unaltered, stock 'Hobby' engine.
This would include, but not limited to: Golden Bee, Babe Bee, Black Widow, Silver Bee, Sure Start, Space Bug, Etc.
Engines excluded would be a Killer Bee or Venom or any modified engine with nonstandard components.
For example: If someone sends in a Black Widow with Tee Dee cylinder and/or Nelson head the engine would be moved to the Mouse 1 category.
Contest Director would have the final determination of class placement.
Contestants will send engines (Limit one engine per class) in a returnable box with return label filled out (no priority mail) plus adequate funds to cover return shipping.

Maybe a Super Unlimited class for 2013, with the TeeDee stuff, anything goes type of class,, Ultimate top rpms wins the gold. The absolute ONLY specifications would be a 4" diameter 2 blade prop minimum and has to be nitromethane burning, thats it. Some real screamers.

We could definitely look at such a class. It would certainly simplify the rules and judging ! If this round isn't too traumatic for me, I'd probably be willing to give it another go.

Good Morning!
I'll check with Mark, but the intent of the Novice Class is to have a basically stock engine, competing against others of it's kind. The polishing might be OK, but piston or cylinder mods will probably move your entry into the unlimited class. I'm still a little foggy on the rules for Mouse 1, but wanted to get a general rule sheet out so folks could get a sense of what we're shooting for.
I'll check and get back to you!

Ok the engine is stock exactly how it came from the model that came from the box.

Kim,
What prop size and nitro content will you be running these on?
If it's the 4.5x4 prop I could donate as many as you like in either the grey or yellow version.
Also, I might just throw an engine together and send it your way. You would then be able to keep and sell the thing to cover some of your costs.

Hey Bernie,
I think Mark has a dedicated APC 4.75"Dx4"P, but will ask him.
Thank You !

Re: "Tach Race 2012" Rules
The last contest we used a APC 4.75x4, but since there's no way we can totally replicate the last contest results, using a different prop is not an issue.
I suggest we use the Cox 'Competition' gray 5x3 prop, that was the prop of choice for Cox .049's ''back in the day'' as well as today. I'm also thinking we change to 25% nitro instead of 35% nitro, as that’s closer to what most use and would be easier to tune for contest.

Is that the greyish-black prop that came with the TeeDee's?
I have one.
Re: "Tach Race 2012" Rules
Mark,
I have lots of the grey 5x3 competition props and could gladly donate a dozen or so of them and, yes, 25% Nitro makes more sense as that is generally used by modellers.
