Tach Race 2012...Engines on Their Way Home !
I still haven't received Indra's engine/entry for the Tach Race. We traded notes today and agreed that the Race should go on this coming Saturday, so that the event is still fresh. Of course, if his engine shows up before or on Saturday, it'll be thrown into the mix!
Perhaps next year, should folks want to do this again, it might be a good idea to schedule the Tach Race in February, giving us a month on the backside of the holidays for the engine's to navigate the mail and delivery systems.
So anyway, THE RACE IS ON FOR THIS SATURDAY & SUNDAY, JANUARY 14TH AND 15TH !!!!

Still hoping that indra's engine will apear.
Next time we have to depend on reliability and build planes so they can fly to Kim's home itself.
Will there be a live webcam where we can watch "the game"

Just a Thought Kim
I don't know what the setup is in your part of the world or indeed how far your
local mail sorting office/depot is but twice since Christmas (last time was
yesterday afternoon) I've wandered down to ours and found a 'missing'
parcel.

Hey John...Thanks...but trust me, I've gone TOTAL obsessive-compulsive on this deal with Indra's engine ! While he sent it to my physical address, I DO live in a small town and have asked the folks in the Post Office to please look under tables and back-boxes for any stray packages...they all know me by name, and always ask me what latest "project" is going on.
My local mailman is an old friend who worked with me back in my factory days, and I'm bribing him with offers of airplane rides and aerial photos of his property if he helps me track down that little .049.
Our postal system here in the states takes a lot of hits about their service (most of the time, deservedly so) but I think my local crew is a good bunch of folks. I'm pretty confident that the engine hasn't made it to my turf yet, and will be making another stop tomorrow morning to check for it while they are open.
Anyway, the watch continues. I haven't checked the weather for tomorrow, but figure I'll run the engines regardless...I can set up in the second door of my shop and have shelter (done that a LOT!). I WILL record the air temps as I run them (just for those fanatical number-herder types !!!). As I'd mentioned in an earlier post somewhere, it's everything I can do NOT to buy some air-conditioning ducting and build my own "Indoor Engine Test Cell" in my shop! THAT would be cool, and will probably happen after the Race.
Later ! Kim

It's a GREAT Idea! Problem is (besides my lack of technical prowess in setting it up!) that it would probably drive you all crazy with the stop-start-disconnect-reconnect-oops, let's slow down for no discernible reason feed of my Dial-Up Service !
I Do intend to run a video camera the whole time, with the intent of burning some DVD's or such, and want to boil it down to a video montage for Youtube. THAT"S all for later on...right now, just need to get my Mojo together for this last workday, and steel myself for tomorrow's excitement!
Later! Steely Kim

You Know what would be "Outta Control COOL"? We buy the Old Cox building, and, after a complete restoration to it's former glory, we dedicate a side room as a theater where we shall assemble on Mr. Cox's Birthday (and other pertinent holidays) for a review of Old and Recent History of these Wonderful Toys!
Don't worry, Pete's Radial Rocket got me started buying Lottery Tickets !!!!! It's just a matter of time !!
Man, I tell ya, after the Tach Race, I GOT to get out of here for a while !

Re: Tach Race 2012...Engines on Their Way Home !
Hopefully it will be a little warm for you, thats the problem with doing it in winter as you need sun light for the tach.
Good luck to everybody!
Nitro, I think we might have a consolation prize for you as your engines are MIA.

Hey Kim, you could make an "edited" version, and and unedited version.
If you burn DVD's, I'll buy one.

Yeah, I was figuring on an edited "Slide Show" of each engine running (what I'd try to put on Youtube), followed by the raw stuff it was taken from.
Shouldn't cost much, and I'll probably just trade them for a donation to the Admin's Account to help him keep all this going.

Maybe 50% profit towards help here and 50% to the childrens hospital you support.
Re: Tach Race 2012...Engines on Their Way Home !
Regarding the lost engine the problem may lay in the UK end and the holidays we've just had.
I just received an ebay purchase (a TD 09) from UK and it took about 30days to get here (sweden). To go overseas may well take even longer...
