I know in my head this engine is real I do not know why it has a hex plate but we will have to get past that.Cox International wrote:engine049 wrote:round plate stock was exhausted LOL I sold over 200 to Bernie or was it matt or reggie or that other dude in 2009 either way Their stock was not depleted.

source ex model engines
Baby bee DRive plate
Below, same as killer bee venom
Source Coxinternational
1 more thing whats up with the 45 degree cut onto the lower tang vent ??
Thats the thing, this engine is so easy to fake...
Plus the one he has does not seem to have a shim venoms have a phonelioc shim. Well its metal not phonelic befrreen crank case and drive plate. I still think the guy didn't have the parts to make this 1 quite right... Nice touch with machining the piston down. Anyone have a Venom that they can measure the piston wall thickness on?

Re: Venom!!!!!
What's up with the tapered piston?
I though the cylinders where tapered only?

Re: Venom!!!!!
What do you mean?
A straight piston will fit nicely in tapered bore, that's how all ABC engines are made. Some of the taperednes goes away when the cylinder heats up but the idea is the same.
The tapered cylinder reduces friction in the lower part where the piston doesn't have to seal, but there is no reason to taper the piston.
There can be a slight barrel shape to a piston but I don't think it is needed. As far as I know, the TD engines have a straight piston running in tapered bore.

Re: Venom!!!!!
Nitroairplane. You may be convinced but untill someone spits out piston wall thickness and explains the bevel on the lower air intake I will remain a skeptic. Its obvious to me (someone that has had more venoms and cox engines than 95% of the people on this forum) That it's 65-70% chance of being a fake.
Re: Venom!!!!!
See wikis article.
Taper Ground piston will not fit a non taper ground hole.049 051 are different too see chart
Would not work in a cox It's leak like a freak and wear out fast abc had larger clunkier engines
Re: Venom!!!!!
Well, anyone can write whatever they want on wikipedia while being anonymous...
The table refers to tapered cylinders, not pistons.

You're referring to the Warren Leadbeatters article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_049Surfer_kris wrote:Well, anyone can write whatever they want on wikipedia while being anonymous...

You know how Christians feel about the Bible?
Cox collectors feel close to the same way about the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_049
Anyway, I assure you, the pistons that fit in taper ground cylinders are taper ground. Im not at the shop so i cant take top and lower skirt measurements. Maybe you have a micrometer and the pistons from a TG cylinder so you can see for yourself
Re: Venom!!!!!
Gotta sayGuys I think I agree with Kris on this one.
I never really thought people actually meant both the piston
And the cylinder were tapered.
This would be like having a cone going up and down inside a
Cone with the result that there would be compression only
Momentarily but bigger amounts of piston slap as it travelled
Down the bore (this was expensive 'rebuild' time on our RS Cosworths
Back in the day) probably interfering with any normal 'suck, push, bang, blow'
Action to draw in a charge or expel exhaust gases.

Re: Venom!!!!!
Nope I am sure BOTh are tapered as Beez did a test when he an old cox engine and wanted to put another piston in, it was tapered, the non tapered piston fit in about 1/2 way.
Re: Venom!!!!!
Like I said someone with a caliper meaure upper and lower of a taper piston/cyl combo you will see. I know also for a fact that they are different, since I have measured this in the past over and over
.
Regardless Back to the subject
I STILL DON'T THINK ITS A GENUINE VENOM and If someone here buys it please let us know.

Hey Engine049
Don't know why you continue to bash my ebay listing for the Venom but I'm curious if it's because I declined your offer to "pull the auction off" and relist it later with a link to your "Genuine starter instructions for $19.99" Your link to your site followed in the next message I received on eBay from you...... hmmmmmmmm, now I'm the skeptic!!
"Can you please photograph the piston underskirt in great detail and post to auction. Also. If you want to pull your auction down and start it up another day I have Genuine venom starter instructions for $19.99 That's original not re-printed from cox factory.

Re: Venom!!!!!
Yeah. So what's your point about the starting instructions Just so happens I have 6 genuine copies. I bought cox's research and development dept out. I also have rr1 Blueprints and every blueprint for every engine cox engine ever made.

bash/baSH/ Verb: Strike hard and violently.
I didn't see the definition where authenticity questioning was also bashing
I'm a skeptic trying to get to the bottom of the authentication of your "venom."
I Still have yet to hear from someone with a Known Genuine venom piston wall thickness. Can anyone match these figures to a KNOWN Authentic V? Can someone match to these figures?
Ma'am It's not my fault anyone with a lathe can cough up a venom. BTW see (http://coxengineforum.forumakers.com/t538-how-to-clone-a-cox-venom)
