F4U-4 Corsair
One of the airplanes of all time that I have liked the most is without a doubt the F4U-4 Corsair, in fact, I have an E-flite Corsair with an electric radio control engine and another with a nitro engine with an O.S. .55 and a good friend of mine, Rafael Castillo Martinez has a Top Flite giant Corsair with a 60cc OS gas engine, but I hadn't flown a line controlled Corsair.
Like many of the old-school model airplane fans, I started out flying line-controlled airplanes, which is why I still like to fly this type of model airplane.
So, without further ado, download from Outerzone the plan to build a Corsair profiled for a Cox Tee Dee .049 engine (the plan is for a Cox Pee Wee .020 engine so I took some liberties to modify it a bit ), here is a brief review in photographs:F4U-4 Corsair control line 2_temp10

@MSierra, I see that you scaled up Paul Del Gatto's 17" Profile F4U Corsair for .020 Pee Wee from the Aug. 1961 Model Airplane News plan. (When I was 13 y.o., MAN had a plan sale, I ordered the companion same designer 17" Profile SNJ Harvard plan along with Ken Willard's 36" R/C Schoolboy and a Jetex plan.)

I was just curious, what scale factor, wingspan did you use to upscale the model to .049 Tee Dee / Medallion power? Looks like you got a good how-to build going on in doing scaling in an easy to do and understand way. Very Happy Thumbs Up

George, I built the Del Gatto Corsair 43 years ago. I flew it a few times. I originally had a Pee Wee on it. It didn't do well with that engine. I'm certain I could get it to fly better today but back then I didn't invest time into what didn't work. I put a Tee Dee on it and that didn't work well due to tank issues. It flew fast, it wasn't very maneuverable. Two years ago, I brought it out for our annual 1/2A day. My buddy Philly Skip had a box of engines and my Corsair was sitting on the ground with no engine. I picked up a Babe Bee and screwed it on, fueled it and it fired right up. This amazed me because if it was my engine it would've needed to be completely taken apart. He had no history of this engine as he received the box and we flew the Corsair quite a bit. It was neat to see it fly after sitting on my shelf for over 20 years.

F4U-4 Corsair control line Dscn3068 I couldn't find the original cowling so I started to make another.

Hello GallopingGhostler

Actually, I just printed the plan and built it as is; the city of San Luis Potosí is at a height of 1864 meters above sea level, so I doubt that with a Cox Pee Wee .020 engine it would even fly at that height, all I did was modify the nose of the plane to adapt it to the Cox Tee Dee .049 engine and I put two reinforcements in the union of the dihedral/anhedral of the wings instead of one, the thickness of the wood was passed to the following measurement:

Fuselage: from 3/16” to ¼”
Wing: from 1/8” to 3/16”
Stabilizer/elevator and rudder: from 1/16” to 1/8”

Greetings and thank you very much for your interest.

Hello getback

It is not paint, it is heat shrinkable coating made in china (“monokote”), I printed the decals at home, but what I found on the internet were not of good quality so that is the result, I did not like them either, but is what I could do; if I find some commercial decals I change them.

Cheers

¡Oye, su trabajo del avión es muy interesante! Wow, your work on the airplane is very interesting! Now that I know where you are from, now I understand about your higher elevation. I used to live in Gallup, New Mexico, which is at 6,500 feet elevation (1981 metros). Engines produce less HP at that elevation. Now I am at 4,300 feet (1311 m).

Just reading about the history and architecture of San Luis Potosi seems like a very nice place to live.

Hello getback

I used a paper with adhesive for decals that they sell in Home Depot stationery stores, but the images that I downloaded from the internet are not of quality, that is why they came out almost translucent; What paper do you use and where do you download the images?
