Local U-control flying sites in Orange County, California
Good morning,
I'm new to the site, and I would like to know any information of flying sites near my location? I was a u-control pilot since the early 1970's, and I have some old Cox .049 and .020's, from the 80's. I would like to get back in the hobby since I'm retired. Any information would very appreciated.
Thank you,
Ed.

Orange country, Santa Ana. Holy ground for Cox Engine and products fans. Welcome to the forum.
I visited California shortly after the gold rush ended, not too much of a stretch, back in the early 1950's. Down from Yosemite through Sacramento to LA. Knotts Berry Farm, panned gold. Beautiful country.
Best bet is your own back yard if the neighbors don't mind the noise. Parks and recreation areas if allowed and you leave your first born as security against lawsuits. R/C sites if they don't discriminate. Tongue in cheek maybe, but this ain't 1950 anymore.
Good luck in your search.

to the forum, @CrashCan!
Lived in Long Beach 30 years ago. At Whittier Narrows Recreational Area, there used to be several CL flying circles, don't know if they are there still.
Regarding yard space, most yards in SoCal are small except for those who can afford. I used to head out to Edwards AFB in Lancaster, CA, about 2 hours away, sometimes on a long weekend Vandenburg AFB in Santa Maria, CA, about 4 hours away and fly my RC planes.

Thank you very much for all your reply's. Back in the early 1970,s when I was a kid living in Santa Ana, we kids would fly our Cox PT-19's at a local elementary school without being hassled by the neighbors and the police. There use to be a hobby area at Mile Square park in Fountain Valley, for all powered model airplanes, but not anymore. Man, I just might have to find an industrial area that's safe to fly during the weekends. It's been 50 years or so since I flown U/C.
Thanks again you guys,
Ed

Ed, if you are not already a member (free), you can join Stunt Hangar at:
https://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php
Then post in Open Forum a brief introduction and looking for CL fliers where you are at. There are some from California who post there, and they can direct you to clubs and flying fields.
And yes, I understand the changes in society. Used to be in the 1960's, Biloxi Mississippi and Hawaii, model engine noise was considered as healthy noise. School parks were open. We could even ride our bicycles on the sidewalks just outside the classrooms, use the play sets without parental supervision even as a grade schooler. Run up our engines outside the house.
It was a different world.

Down South, in Pacific Beach (a part of San Diego,) there is supposed to be a dedicated U-Control area not far from the Model Yacht Pond and SEFSD.org.
It is something I need to check into myself again….

Man, I wish I had lived next to the COX facilities in my childhood....at least I visited the old Poinsettia and the later East Warner Avenue locations a few years ago, just to see where all my COX engines were once born..

Thank you all again for your reply's. I lived in Santa Ana until '71, we use to fly our Cox airplanes (PT-19 for some reason they where popular in those days) at the old Lowell elementary school prior to the Sylmar quake condemned the school. When visiting our cousins house on Holiday and St. Andrew street in Santa Ana , we all would take a walk to Cox on Warner Ave., sneak in behind the the factory and go dumpster diving for anything we could find for parts for our hobby needs. Man thoughts were some fond memories.
