Re: NEW: Model Stylo (nro.4) and Norvel BIG MIG .061 R/C (nro.3 crashed)..
My opinion on the Norvel Big Mig .061 r/c engine
The engine requires a seat or softening procedure, which is explained in its own manual. It is essential to perform these steps for the correct operation and durability of the engine.
It is a very easy starter motor, you can easily start by hand.
The engine has a reliable carburetor in all gear ranges - function.
His power keeps him firm forever.
It has a very good low gear, which allows a plane model to land without problems.
Your carburetor is very accurate and reliable.
Its exhaust chamber is effective, perfectly silences the engine and maintains power.
By having a pressurizer, it allows a quick and efficient response by suddenly accelerating.
The weight of the engine in relation to the power is optimal.
Conclusion:
The Norvel .061 r / c engine is a wonderful piece, worthy of its reputation and "legend", an engine that I will not hesitate to recommend, since it works very efficiently, I am happy to have this engine.

Brad, I had some new AP .061, but I sold them a long time ago. I'm seeing experience with the MPJET .061 that I leave here the link:1/2A Nut wrote:Medallion .049, Tee Dee .049 , Norvel .061 what other brand 1/2A engines have you used in projects?

Do you have experience with the MPJET engine?

Re: NEW: Model Stylo (nro.4) and Norvel BIG MIG .061 R/C (nro.3 crashed)..
The MP Jet is a good engine, the parts are specialized. The way the plastic RC carb
body mounts to the crank case is exclusive.
The muffler is also exclusive mounting. The glow plug is exclusive to the engine.
The bearing RC version would be the only one worth having for RC flying.
I see it turns a APC 6x3 at 16,200 rpm / 15% nitro
Master Airscrew 6x4 at 16,900 rpm
These numbers are not impressive it has a cast iron piston robbing power.
Per: http://www.sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/MP%20Jet%20061.html
I benched a Queen Bee with a turbo plug using a APC 6x3 / 19,780 rpm
For me I would rather convert .05, .06 and .07 car engines for 1/2A size planes.
I say that because all of them can use more standard parts / conventional modern parts.
Now that you have a taste for the power of a Norvel I imagine you want to progress to the
next best engine. I can show you some suggestions and conversions all bought off ebay.
If you would like a .05 car engine to convert to aero use let me know I will PM you a link.
.05 to .061 engines in bearings
Picco .05 / .85 cc / APC 4.2x4 / 29,473 rpm
Fuji .05 / Profi .8cc Tuned Pipe / 28.75k / 4x4.5 Carbon / Nylon
CS .061 / Nelson Plug / Profi .8cc Tuned Pipe / APC 4.5x4 / 25,193 rpm
G&Z .049N / APC 4.5x4 / 98 mph pitch speed
.07 beast with bearings
SH 07 / Profi Tuned Pipe / APC 4.2x4 / 28,666 rpm / 109 mph
.07 to .074 None bearing engines
Norvel .074 /Norvel Adapter Turbo Plug / HQ 5x4.5 / 22.77K rpm
Norvel .074 / Kamtechnik Turbo Plug Test / APC 6x4 / 19,864 rpm
Thunder Tiger GP .07 / HQ 5x4.5 carbon prop / 19.86k rpm.

That test is way off...
They run a little stronger than the Norvel .061 RC engines on typical sport props. I've posted some numbers earlier in the MP Jet thread, using 10% nitro I get:
APC 5.7x3 prop (stock engine with RC carb and muffler): 19700rpm
APC 5.7x3 prop (slightly enlarged bore in the RC carb, and running muffler pressure): 21100rpm
Doug Galbreth knows how to get the best from them though:

Doug most likely modified the sleeve / timing and used a Nelson plug.
21.1k is good Kris, using the static thrust calc: 21oz thrust / 155w / 60 mph pitch speed.

Damn receiver!
Today I went to fly and on my second flight about 100 meters high, I lost signal of my new model, the model rushed to the ground there was no way to take a signal again, it had a lot of time and height but there was no way for me to respond .
Again I was using an Orange RX like the one I had used in my Extra 260.
I lost two beautiful models ... I would like to know what receivers you use ... I don't want to lose more models in this way.

Yes friend, the red Stylo no longer exists, it flew beautiful and the engine a wonder .... the destruction was total, it fell about 100 meters high without being able to do anything .... I lost the signal .... damn RX ... when I approached the remains, everything worked perfect, it is possible that these RX, the ORANGE615 are not of the same quality, one of the others has a quality difference, I have several installed and they did not fail, but two of them made me lose two beautiful planes!

Very sorry for your loss again Mauricio! I went throught that myself too. I use exclusively Futaba receivers with my Futaba radio..pretty expensive brand but dependable. My planes that were lost or destroyed died because of failed contact between the battery pack and the RX or a bad contact in the sh....tty Chinese switch mounted in the plane so I cannot blame the RX but myself. I hope you could recover at least the engine and electronics from the wreckage?

Thank you Friend, they are definitely the RXORANGE615, because among them some walk and others fail and you never know when they will fail.
I also use the RX Spektrum AR6100e and with those I never had problems.
I lost two beautiful planes ... I will gather enthusiasm and at some point I will manufacture another STYLO, thanks for your message!

My friend ,, Why would you use something that has failed you on another project ?? I am sorry to hear this !!! I read speck. on the Rec. says it will recover from a BROWN OUT ( ultra-fast brown-out recovery and wide input voltage range) from speck. brown out ..(Brown-out recovery
A brown-out condition occurs when power momentarily is lost to the server. A brown-out interrupts the operating system, but does not interrupt the iLO firmware. Under brown-out conditions the iLO service remains uninterrupted for about 4 seconds (longer power interruptions result in black-outs).)) I know the rec. was cheap but the crash is NOT ! I would contact these people and give them my concern

Re: NEW: Model Stylo (nro.4) and Norvel BIG MIG .061 R/C (nro.3 crashed)..
Sorry about your beautiful model Mauricio. But the damage is done, so I was doing some looking and wondering. Since it is a smaller model, where was your receiver located in the fuselage. I ask this as it is a smaller plane with less room to put things. I, along with many others have been using Orange Rx for a long time, and have not had any mishaps. However, I do not have any of the 615X receivers. Mine are the original 610, and 610 V2, I believe. Neither of these receivers I have, and I also believe yours too, have diverse antennas. They are both antennas onto a single dipole. With that said, these receivers are more prone to 'shadowing', having a better chance at NOT seeing the transmitter signal. They, along with such receivers as the AR6100, are best mounted as far away as possible from the batteries, engines, and electronics to help reduce the chances of 'shadowing', and being locked out from signals. This is one of the downsides of 2.4. And I am pretty sure that you know that it is best not to point the antenna at the aircraft as that is the weakest signal you would get. I used to bend my antenna and have it pointed to the left, but have since just bent it straight upwards for best signal while flying, as then about the only way to not get a signal would be to fly directly overhead. Again, sorry for your loos of aircraft, but wanted to also try and help with set-up as this could have been a possible problem, but I did not see how or where you mounted your electronics. Don't give up on them Orange Rx's. They are very decent.
And if you still have the receiver, might I suggest that you take the case apart and check where the antenna mounts on teh circuit board. There have been a few isolated cases of the antennas not soldered properly. This too could be checked with a slight 'tug' on them.

Thanks New222 for all this contribution but I want to make something clear to you:
Stylo with Cox .049 Medallion RC, has an ORANGE
Stylo With Cox .051 Tee Dee RC, has an ORANGE
ByHawk With Cox Medallion .049 RC. has an ORANGE
P51 Mustang with Enya .09 RC has an ORANGE
Piper Arrow with Cox .049 RC has ORANGE
Taladrito glider with Cox Tee Dee .051 RC has ORANGE
Mini Bird with Cox Tee dee .049 RC has ORANGE
Piyurin Cox Tee Dee .020 RC has ORANGE
Piyurin Cox Tee Dee .010 RC has ORANGE
That is, these models have different versions of the ORANGE, the latest version is the one that I have problems, they may not have the quality of the first. a great doubt, what already works will leave it that way but my next models will not carry ORANGE, I will only use them if I build an electric Park Flyer model.

I understand when you mean shadow and loss of signal, that is, the glider almost lost sight of it about 280 to 300 meters and it works and the same RX ORANGE in the extra about 100 meters and about 4 meters high lost signal, everything is very crazy, but it is so, then, if the RX itself behaves in this way, it is definitely not reliable, I can not risk breaking plans in this way. I still have the loss of my Extra and now that of my Stylo, this goes beyond money, time is not bought with money and the passion and enthusiasm in each project is unique. I think things as they should be, when something is doubtful, it doesn't work. Orange is no longer reliable and recommended material for me.

Friends, how are you? ... We are all going through a hard time, COVID-19 is a worldwide disgrace, I hope that all of you are well and take care of this situation.
In my country, we are here in quarantine, to protect ourselves, so I decided to start a new Stylo model, for my Norvel .061.
Again we are in the race to enjoy this engine again and in the meantime, taking advantage of the time to build ... Hugs for all.

Nice build like always, Mauricio. I like the engine cowling detailing...I never build up a closed or semi-closed cowling - out of sheer laziness and impatience to put the bird in the air a.s.a.p. -, even though aesthetically and aerodynamically a closed or semi-closed cowling fares much better.
