Anyone with experience with MPJET-061?
As the title says, I wonder if anyone has experience with the Glow .061 RC engine and what is your comment.
What type of acrobatic plane size (wingspan - weight), can you carry without problems?
Compared to Norvel.074, can it be said that they have the same power or performance?
Thank you in advance for your opinions!

Re: Anyone with experience with MPJET-061?
The MP Jets .061 are very nice engines, they run a little stronger than the Norvel .061, especially on larger props but they cannot compete with the Norvel .074 engine of coarse.
They are iron/steel construction and are set up really tight from the factory so you do need to pre-heat the cylinder for the first few starts. Plenty of castor in the fuel is also good, you can use up 30% all castor for the first few runs and then go down to 20-25% all castor.
Here are some figures for the BB RC version on 10% nitro:
APC 5.7x3 prop (stock RC carb and muffler): 19700rpm
APC 5.7x3 prop (slightly enlarged bore in the RC carb, and running muffler pressure): 21100rpm
The Doug Galbreath modified engine will even go up to about 23000rpm on the same prop (if I remember correctly), but these engines are hard to find...
The main needle is very close to the carb and hard to grab/adjust, especially with cold fingers, so on one engine I added some plastic in order to get a better grip. The engine has looked a little different through out the years, especially the muffler:

Thank you very much AndrĂ¡s, excellent technical report!
Kris, Thank you for the data of your experience.
Do you use it on any model? or only in test benches? ...
What size plane does it consider fair for this engine? Thank you!

Re: Anyone with experience with MPJET-061?
I have used it in my Yellow Jacket (by Morris Hobbies), to me the engine is good in any 1/2A plane where you want a little extra power so quite similar applications as the Norvel .061 but the MP jet doesn't need quite as small props. The MP jets are a little heavier than a Norvel though:
78g (BB RC engine) + 15g (muffler) = 93g
78g (BB RC engine) + 15g (muffler) = 93g

Yep! A marvelous Czechoslovakian engine.
Here's my Plain Bearing .061:

And my Factory Race Special, like yours:
Both were given to me years ago by our own Fit90 Bob. He was a huge influence on my advancement in power plants and bladder fed fuel systems. He also introduced me to my first Tee Dee .049... Thanks again, Bob!
