I work at the MMAC. So FAA contacts shouldn't be too hard.
I was being kind of tongue in cheek as I have 2 more years until I can retire.

Hello Kim,
That is a nice Ryan. Before the Kinners, they were Menasco powered. Here's a Ryan advert I found on the web:

Re: On the Ramp Right Now!
Thanks Lieven!
I actually owned one of the Cox ST-3's, in that exact color scheme. It was the first throttled engine I'd ever encountered, and it was great fun being able to taxi, takeoff, and land at will. The wheels were so small though, that my ballfield runway wouldn't work, so I flew it from the widest section of pavement on the main street of the small town where I lived.
Still watching for a flyable one to turn up on Ebay!

Piper Tri-Pacer!!!
AKA: "The Flying Milk Stool" and "Piper 150", among others, the little Tri-Pacer could be spotted everywhere back in the day. No rural airport was complete without one or more of these little puddle-jumpers tied down, with grass growing up around their wheels.
I've now lived long enough to see them popularly converted to taildraggers back in the 70's and 80's, so the owner could have himself a 150 HP "Pacer"...then to have the little planes become a classic in their own right, with many converted BACK to Tri-Pacer status!
Happy Tri-Pacer Face !!!!

Re: On the Ramp Right Now!
Sky King Time !!! Had this beautiful 1956 Cessna 310 stop by for a quick visit. It's new paint is in the original factory scheme from back when I was 2 years old!
It also still retains the original over-the-spar exhaust that has been changed out on so many of these planes.
Now, if I can just get a Bobcat to stop in and pose, I'll have my hero totally covered!!!!

Re: On the Ramp Right Now!
So, take my beloved, but long-gone Metro-Van:
Add a couple of super-flapped wings with PT-6's hanging on them...and you have the greatest toy-hauler a guy could ask for !!!!
The Shorts C-23 "Sherpa" !!!!!
Can't boost your Harley up through the giant side-hatch?
Well, just drop the back ramp, and drive 'er in !!!!
Properly emptied, there's even room for a pistol range!!!!
So, you can keep your Tri-Falcons and Learjets...just give me a "GUY PLANE" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And WHATEVER you do...DON'T forget the cool quips and radio calls:
"Cape Tower, I'm ready to taxi in my Shorts."
"Sure, I'll take you for a ride...just go hop in my Shorts."
"OH Crap, I got a &$%^#@% FAA Inspector looking in my Shorts."
"Yes sir, I confess...that WAS me, buzzing the city in my Shorts."
"No sir, I DIDN'T know it was against the law to pack a Barrett in my Shorts..."
Sorry...perhaps I had too much coffee this morning....

RE: On the ramp right now
I've flown on the Shorts SkyVan a number of times,on various Regional air carriers, and It had ,by far, the smoothest, most stable ride of any plane it's size. The parasol wings just seem to float the plane through rough air. The strangest feature of the SkyVan was the large stringer inside the cabin that you had to step over which the Sherpa seems not to have for more freight area.
I love the shoe box design with the round nose...

Re: On the Ramp Right Now!
If I saw a model of that I would think the builder was crazy if he thought it could possibly fly on that toothpick wing. Those are funny.

Re: On the Ramp Right Now!
Yeah! And yet, though I've never seen it, they're supposed to be excellent short-field performers. They ARE pretty slow, but you get to pack along enough stuff to make it OK !!!
A couple years ago, a civilian Sherpa Driver quoted the one thing you'll NEVER be told by ATC:
"Sir, we need you to slow down." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: On the Ramp Right Now My Favorite airplane
I always figured that the Short Brothers used a version of the Clark-Y airfoil that made the B-24 Liberators, that my Dad flew 50 missions in over Europe, such an efficient long range bomber of the time. It was also used on the Douglas C-124 Globe Masters that I rode a lot on in the NCANG. If you look at a bumble bee and then at a C-124 "Old Shakey" you'll wonder how either one could possibly fly. That brillant airfoil makes them do the seemingly impossible.

North American B-25 "Maid in the Shade"arrives at KCGI !!!!!
With four days to go before our airshow begins, this beautiful 25-year-restoration dropped in to camp on our ramp !!!
Based in Arizona "Maid in the Shade" is one of the few warbirds on the airshow circuit that is an actual combat veteran...complete with several patched bullet holes, courtesy of Mr. Hitler's pals!
It was restored over a period of 25 years, and has had many of it's interior equipment restored or reproduced.
More to follow!
