Dual Rates and stuff.
Hi I got this UMX extra 300 and Dx6i yesterday and did the maiden today and it reccomend some expo and stuff and I applied the lowest, then medium them highest reccomended and that was good but then I put travel on all servos to 100% and wow the responsivness is great.I have had planes that fly t walking speed and super agile planes in the past but have something that will aileron roll at walking pace so quickly is great. This is sooo fun.
If you get a chance to use this plane and are a competent pilot I highly reccomend setting the rates to at least 70% you will have a ball!

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
When I got my micro Yak, I plugged in the battery and launched it. No expo, not rates, and it was surprisingly easy.
By Christmas I hope to have some batteries, then I will start flying it again and taking videos.

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
Good and by the way I have almost got the hover just every now and then I make a correction in the wrong direction lol.

Duuhhh, this is the first thread on here I've found where I barely understand one word in ten!
Is it a foreign language, or modern R/C?, both of those are closed books to me, I'm still flying 35mHz!

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
lol Yup modern 2.4ghz RC transmitters and 3d flying in particular using and setting up Dual rates and Expo.

One of the better, easier to comprehend, explanations of DR and expotential settings and there effects. read it once, twice, ect.

Wilf:
Simply put, "dual rates" allow the RC pilot to adjust the responsivness to RC inputs. Allows the pilot to do this from the Tx and while the plane is in the air.
Exponentials have similar but slightly different function too complicated to explain here. Read a dual-rate Tx's manual for more information.

Yep.
"Rates" is the amount of travel you have on a control surface. Normally a toggle switch on the radio allows you to switch from two different settings which can be programmed beforehand. e.g. 50% - 70%.
Exponential "softens" the stick. There is a dead spot in MDC, which you can set to make the control surfaces less responsive. Good idea for beginners, but some hate the feeling.

Put simply:
Little thing make crazy plane not crash.

"3D" flying is RC lingo for flying aerobatics.

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
Sort of.
I can do some aerobatics but not 3D.
3d flight includes more vertical manouvers such as prop hanging and torque rolling but yes it is a somewhat extreme form of aerobatics I have come to think of it like flying a very out of trim rc heli

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
Sorry Indra that's not correct.
Dual-rates don't prevent crashing at all. They cn actually INCREASE the chance of crashing when the pilot over-controls with dual-rates are in the "high" position like when pulling up from a step dive. Over-control often results in a stall then things get REALLY interesting trying to correct.

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
I know lol but if you set it up correctly you make the plane easier to fly thus reducing the chance of you crashing.
Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
The best way to set the "rates" is gained only from experience with a particular aircraft and whether you fear crashing or like to "crowd the envelop" and "play" with aircraft.
I prefer the later over the former and have crashed planes sitting here to prove it.

+1....
Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
Still using a Dx6i, have not out grown it yet...
About 7 out of ten models. Some of them are old, though.

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
I have 3 receivers bound to mine.
UMX extra 300
Blade MSR
And the receiver it came with.

Re: Dual Rates and stuff.
Simply put with dual rates on, the elevator, rudder, control surfaces move to 1/2 there throw distance as the transmitter control stick is all the way over to it's stop (< this is with a dual rate setting of 50% as programmable by many computer radios). With dual rates off, the control surfaces will move just as far as you move the TX control stick, finally stopping when the TX stick hits it's stop and/or the control surface hits it's endpoint adjustment.
Expotential adjustment softens the control stick around it's neutral point, makes the control surfaces a bit more slower to respond when you first move the TX stick off center or neutral. There is usually positive and negative expotential adjutment with most computer radios.

No, I know this one, it's making model planes do what no fullsized aircraft could ever do, it aint aerobatics!

I would trade all modern RC stuff for 60's stuff at it's old price!
