Re: McCoy Duro Glo needle
An early Wen-Mac needle should work on a McCoy diesel, you might have a damaged, cross threaded needle or venturi.
Oil up the needle and pinch tight with paper towel and turn counter clockwise, then look at threads.
I just checked some old parts and a needle from a wen-mac (early 60's) worked fine in a McCoy diesel.

Eric. Has this engine ever had a needle valve fitted since you had it? Maybe there's something stuck in the spray bar that's jamming it. Busted off needle tip maybe? Try to push a thin probe through from the nipple side.

Mark I think maybe the venture is crossed threaded do you know what thread is ? Here are the ones I have tried are they old enough , I don't know .... Thanks , Eric

Re: McCoy Duro Glo needle
Eric, if all else fails, I'm sure you could retrofit a spraybar and needle valve to that engine. Kap Pak and Perfect made some replacement style needle valves with a spring like extension and a knurled knob on the end. These were universal for several older model engines like OK engines and Wasps etc. I'm sure the spraybar could press out easily and a substitute like a Cox needle spraybar and needle from a product engine could be used. I prefer to sleeve if needed by machining a bushing to the case and press the spraybar into it. While not pretty, JB weld can be used and will do a satisfactory job. JB weld can be cleaned up prior to drying the same way one cleans epoxy by using a cotton swab and alcohol. Do you have the diesel fuel for it? Ken

Hi Mark,
If I recall the McCoy needle valve is #2 X 72.
Recently bought another McCoy .049 diesel, and found after talking to the seller that it had never been run! No box or papers, but the price was right.

Hi Eric,
Oops! My mistake!
The McCoy .049 needle valves are 1-72, and not 2-72 as I said.
My brain cells are obviously fading with age!

Eric,
I considered making substitute brass needles from 1-72 X 3/4" hex head machine screws. A 1/2" screw may even be long enough?
Fortunately, Mark Boesen was kind enough to give me one of the aftermarket needles he had at that time - thanks again Mark!
There are several articles on the forums about doing this with inexpensive shop tools.
As it turns out almost all the early USA made half A engines used the same needle thread.
