Just scored me a McCoy .35 Red Head off the Bay.

Not a bad price as it looks to be in pretty decent shape. I'll post pics once it arrives.

Shawn,
For the final sale price you can't go wrong. Looks to be a good one. If you use it feed it plenty of Castor, you may already know that, but hey it never hurts to err on the side of caution.
Hope it's all it appears to be and good score!

Thanks for the fuel tip.
I always add Castor to the fuel for my old engines. I have a Red Head .35 already but it's in need of some TLC due to a meeting with some pavement after one of the lines broke on an old Ringmaster many years ago and for the price, it was way cheaper than trying to find the parts needed for repairs so I couldn't pass it up. Hopefully it will be a good one!

Shawn, Ken Cook can tell you everything you need to know about this engine. There is a "girl" who makes replacement gaskets. "Shelly"?? She has an ebay store.
Re: I won me a McCoy .35
I can't currently find the lady's details, but I will post when I do. I got a couple of McCoy overhaul kits off her which I'm yet to use, but it looks like she does an excellent job. Kit has all gaskets, teflon crank-pin plug and a "McCoy Powered" sticker, along with 2 pages of comprehensive overhaul tips, including resizing crankshaft bushing and restoring piston fit. I'll try to locate her details, but she does have some videos of overhauled engines running on youtube.

Awesome. Thank you.
Hopefully I'll be able to restore the one I have now and do any repairs if needed on the new one.
Growing up, I owned a few McCoy engines, I had a Lightning Bolt Red Head.19 my .35 and I had a Testors / McCoy .19 and a .40 R/C engine. Both engines had ringed pistons and a Butterfly Exhaust Valve that was coupled to the Carb. They all ran great. However, the Testors engines were a little on the heavy side but they still performed really well. And I have a few Testors / McCoy .049's as well.

Re: I won me a McCoy .35
Although USPS's Infamous 2 day priority took about 5 days to here, I got my .35.
It looks to have hardly ever been run as the piston and cyl. like the rest of the engine looks almost brand new and the compression feels like new as well. The only things not stock are the screws were changed out to phillips head and the homemade flexible needle extension which I kinda like over the stock needle setup.
Here are a couple of pics. However, the pics do not do it justice! The cooling fins look to be rusted in the pics but they are nice and clean other than a little dust.

Re: I won me a McCoy .35
The needles and screws are available from MECOA. The Testors series 21 ones fit. Needle is the same but I found the spray bar is a little longer than the original and a washer must be used to centralise it.

Congrats Shawn on your new buy. I've attached photos from E-Bay of your jewel:sdjjadk wrote:Just scored me a McCoy .35 Red Head off the Bay. Ebay: McCoy 35 Red Head Stunt engine Outstanding Not a bad price as it looks to be in pretty decent shape. I'll post pics once it arrives. Shawn
I'm lrearning more about this engine as I fly my S-1 Ringmaster, but so far it seems to be a sweet engine. Running it on 25% oil of which 10% is Castor. I am told that the red paint isn't that stable and will darken as the engine is used. I should paint it with Duplicolor Ford Red engine paint, which I am told is a good match. Paper gasket for head tends to leak, making switching to socket head screws nice. The Phillips scrrew heads are easy to tear up if one is not careful to use the right screw driver tip.
Post note: that Acme needle valve stem with spring (or whatever make it is, some of the old timers know) mounted to the stub of the McCoy needle I believe uses a simple bracket bolted to the engine back screws, to hold it and angle it away from the prop. Otherwise, it flopping around might catch the prop.
