Cox Stocker 0.49 won`t start
Hi,
I have problems to start my Cox Stocker. It has got the maple's throttle and zip starter.
Does anybody has experience with this Car. - Fuel is good, the glow head works and it has compression. It has new fuel lines and everything seems to be in order and clean.
First I thought it doesn't get primed but if I open the engine there is some fuel on the piston.
It has got a snorkel for priming and I am not sure if I have to give full throttle on the radio for starting.
Maybe somebody can help.

I have no experience with your type of setup, but I would definitely think full throttle is the best way. That's where Coxes are happiest.

A weak battery will light the glow head, but when you spin the engine during starting, it can't keep it hot enough. I've been down THAT road before.

Hey Guys,
thank you very much for you hints. I will change the battery (this was also a problem in my Kyosho Cox, I didn't count on that enough) and try it with full throttle again.
If this won't help I will dissasemble the engine and maybe spent a new reed or backplate.

Does it fire on prime? It should run for a second or so off of prime. If not suspect the glowhead/battery
If it runs on prime, but won't pick up fuel then suspect the fuel delivery.

Yes if you put a few drops of gas in the piston slot it shot start and then shut down if something is clogged.
I had this problem on a old cox car ... what I did was take out the motor unscrewed the needle valve whole plastic plate and soaked it in fuel and put it back together and it worked..... I think the flapper was gummed up or the little hole that the fuel goes through was clogged in the needle valve.... before you do this I would unscrew the needle valve fill it up with fuel and let it soak a while and it may unclog things in there ...then try and start... I also did this when filling the gas tank I held my finger over the vent hole and I pressurized the tank and forced the fuel up the lines into the needle valve that can clear out the lines and stuff.
that's how I got mine running.

The usual problem is too much fuel rather than too little. Get your ear down there, and if you can hear any sizzle, there is too much fuel.
Close the needle and give it 20 pulls or so and see if you can get it to fire enough to run out the prime. (1-2 seconds). Then set needle to recommended setting (see insturctions for this engine, they vary) prime 1 drop into exhaust, or block intake and turn twice over compression. Then start.

It can't be fixed. You better send it to me for a proper disposal.

Here after unboxing, I bought it last year on Ebay.us. Shipping was more than the whole car
Before cleaning:
And after some work, this foto is not actual. I got some new parts from bernie which are installed now
If you are interested in cox powered cars follow this Tread i have a couple of them, maybe interesting for you. There are also some pictures of the stocker in:
https://www.coxengineforum.com/t2844-rc-cars-cox-049-cox-stocker-kyosho-f1beetle-killer-bee-backplate-new-video
Back to topic: Some of you know my antipathy against the black backplates I won't start a discussion about the black backplates but it seems to be the wrongdoer again.
I will change the backplate now. I have got some new ones and the installed one has some cracks. I didn't mind last year because it looked ok. After a closer look today, there are several cracks. Maybe this is the reason why it does not want to start.

Probably so. And it's a good opportunity to check everything out.coxaddicted wrote:...I will change the backplate now. I have got some new ones and the installed one has some cracks. that's cool I remember when the GTP one came out I always wanted one but never got one.
does it have a exhaust or does it just get all slimy like the old cox cars?

It has got something like a exhaust. Look at the big tube and the wires, this is the EGR system.
But hey it's a cox - it wouldn't be one if nothing get slimy and juicy.
I have to get this one on the track. It is nearly a year ago that I bought it - what a shame
