G-Mark 061
Yo Guys,
Just kinda thinking about firing up what that nice Mr Cribbs sent me.....
These seem to have a reputation for good throttling, obviously the Cox 'throttle' ring in my
Full Fathom 5 has about 3 settings ie fast, not so fast, and cut. So I'm toying (like that?) with the
idea of sticking either this or a turbonutterbastard 061 AME in it.
Do any of you guys have any experience with these at all?
Cos if it's not 'all that' in the power dept I think I'd rather keep it NIB.

Re: G-Mark 061
If you don't run it, then someone else will when your pushing up daisies John. Or...... It will get tossed in a dumpster. Why cheat yourself?
Toss it on the Old Timer and let er rip!
I do know that parts are hard to find for it though.
Think of it this way nobody can measure piston to sleeve clearance with the naked eye. Run it until it won't run no more. Tear it down and then clean it up and stick it back in the display box.

The Voice of Reason Ron thanks
Only thing is I'm looking at the nuts money those boxed 010's in Johnnies basement seem to
be fetching lately.........

Thanx for the offer Ian
I think the Norvel's have been breeding in the basement though.

Re: G-Mark 061
I have one GMark 060, like yours. Very good engine, the idle is good. I ran it on low nitro fuel (about 5 to 10 %), with a Rossi 1 glow (short plug).
Fix it on a test stand and make your own advice

I have a rather different problem with G-MARK engines. I don't have a basement but have found that if you fit a nice wooden TopFlite propeller and place them in a nice warm but dark drawer - they mutate!
The longer you leave one - the worse it gets!

Re: G-Mark 061
The regular plug is a bit of a power robber on these engines. They need a long reach plug and will do about 15000rpm on a 6x3 prop. So compared to a Norvel .061 there is no contest...

I have a few
I got my first G-mark 061 r/c 24 years ago to replace my COX 074 QueenBee ( aka the COx slug engine) because the 074 wouldn`t pull my ACE Alpha through the air. It seema that a heavily burdened epoxy laden Ace Alpha with standard 3ch (early 1980`s)radio equipment was too much weight for the immensely overweight COX 074QueenBee engine.
That same G-mark .061 is currently in an ACE Wizzard ready to be flown again when I feel like fying a plane that huge once again, yes they last that long.
No,it doesn`t perform like a COX TeeDee or a Norvel,but I`m pretty sure the G-mark will outlast either 1 , I bought G-mark`s just for spare parts.
Yes, the G-mark outweighs both the COX TEEDEE and the Norvel I would say.
I use the merlin flatcoil plugs in mine to boost the performance a litttle until I get into converting the head to accept a merlin flatcoil turbo style plug or a flatcoil globee style plug, then she will be a bit more formidable.
Yes this does work, I had a guy ( Bob@flyfreeflight)work up a head for my G-mark .03 r/c like this and he squeezed out 1600 extra rpm
No, sadly my G-mark .061`s wont mutate into multi cylinder engines no matter how much I wish upon a star,I wish my .03`s would too

I was
Unfortunately I was on the missing internet connetion lisst
I havn`t heard from Indra either, I hope he is alright
I`d bet Bob@flyfreeflight.com could really jazz up the G-mark.061 with a head coversion for like a globee style flatcoil plug,he was getting 29k out of COX teedee020`s,says about 30k is the hand grenade mark for them if my memry serves me correctly.
I havn`t gotten around to doing a head conversion one of my G-mark 061`s yet.
The G-marks take a long break in period, my first 061 is still running strong after 24 years and my first 030 is still not completely peaked out yet
