Voltage booster or battery? I could use a booster.
Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
ah ha ha ha... trust me.. you dont want a SS brand booster.... i think i have 1 1/2 working out of 4
i made em my self. if i can find the parts list and diagram, you want a copy?

Is it just a simple step up transformer?
I have made a few in my time Matt if these are what you need they not too hard to make go from 5 coils to 10 and the voltage doubles or from 10-5 and it halves (that is a simple one) but use more coils and you need an iron core.

Sure, that'd be great.

Back to the fuel...is this something you mixed yourself with just castor and nitro?
Methanol is the power ingredient in fuel. It is also methanol that has a catalytic reaction with the glow plug to sustain combustion after you remove the booster.
You can run the engine WITHOUT nitro, as a matter of fact many people do. I often run 10% nitro.

Yes it is a key ingredient and engines have been run using other fuel instead of nitro but all these fuels had methanol or ethanol in them, methanol is better.
Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
its a 10% nitro premix outa all the oil, 50% is caster :3
also, update,
i have chosen to rebuild in balsa. same style and shape, but way better built. im not sure how Xjet does it, but i found it way to difficult to keep any tolerance on parts with the core flute.
body 18" length 1.5" width 2" height.
i will try to have pics up tomm

Re: Shell Shocks First Cox Build
50% caster? or are you saying the oil is 50% caster and 50% syn.? What is the total oil?
As a rule small bore engines like lots of nitro, for a .020, i'd use at at least 15-25% nitro, 20%-25% oil, depending on % of castor.

In all my 1/2a and smaller or vintage glow engines I run 25%nitro 20% castor oil and 65% methanol.
I reinforce flutes using carbon fibre rods and glue it together using a glue gun.

I remember learning to fly on one... i kept thinking to myself, im a horrid pilot.. till i got my first real trainer. the slow stick. then i released that its just the plane XP
All in all, once i adjusted everything, it was a pretty good flyer.
Update, started designing the tail section

I bought it to teach my nephew to fly but I ended up crashing it before he got the chance to touch it lol.
But I was actually a good rc pilot and still managed to crash it.

My uncle had that one, (still does) He flew it off over the trees when he got it some years ago, about 2 months later it was returned to him in full working order.
