Is it Venom hidden as black widow?
I saw ebay item as "Black widow" but it has red anodized crank case. Looks like Venom.

Looks like a Heinz 57 to me. I am thinking no. It is possible the backplate has been switched out and a different cylinder attached.

Yup, furthermore no head to identify. I risk $35 and bought it with buy it now option. Now it is on the way, wait for 5-8 days to arrive. Once it is here, I'll broken down it and post what I see:)

Re: Is it Venom hidden as black widow?
It has no slits on the exhaust port, which a Venom would. If it's really a Black Widow cylinder it probably has a #1 stamped on the corner face of one of the exhaust ports, or maybe on the barrel. If it's been oiled and treated right it might be a good one. Mouse racers aren't known for their long life. But for $35 and &3 shipping, it's not a bad risk.

Re: Is it Venom hidden as black widow?
Darrell Albert is the seller of that engine. Darrell is a well known control line combat flyer. Darrell is also responsible for buying all of the remaining stock of Joe Klause. Many of the auctions he's presented has been a lot of the left over stock. For those that didn't know Joe he was the owner of Kustom Kraftmanship that made all of the hop up parts for Cox engines. Some of the finest parts and engines were provided by Joe. Seeing that this particular engine has many different parts on it, it could certainly be just that, a mixed match of items. Seeing that Darrell had some of the best engines on hand, I'm quite sure he knows what he's dealing with. A simple e-mail would certainly clear any questions up. Ken

"Unknown running condition" would concern me.
If the seller is a well-known Cox authority what does that tell you?

Or as the Bard would say: "A red crankcase doth not a Venom make."
