Yeah...it's a regular thing on the Hill. I got a one-way-out...one-way-in type of runway, and it can get interesting when judging a sailplane's glide ! The cool thing is that, when I fly at a normal field, with good approaches...I feel like I'm in the middle of the Sahara Desert !!!!

Do not taunt the tree. Time is on it's side. Been there, done that.

Agreed ! ....but an even more powerful maxim: "Do not taunt the power lines ! For, the bright flash is just the beginning of your troubles!"

Yep, my park flyer met up with a telephone pole. The wing exploded and fuse became a lawn dart. It was cool for about 1 second and then not so much.

my uncle had a cessna 170 with a saito 4 stroke 56 engine that he was maidening and he clipped a telephone tower with the wing i have that engine now and it ran great until the threads in the cylinder head for the glow plug got stipped out so now the glow plug, which i hope still works, is JB welded in the glow plug mounting whole

very cool! thank you!.
Pesky trees,, always show up to the party unnanounced.
a ride in a 1:1 glider is even more,,,odd,,with the wind whistiling once you cut free from the tow. Bring it up to stall and you can hear yourself breathing rapidly, which do don't realize you are doing before that point.

Yep...me and my buds have had many encounters with wires, trees, towers and the occasional farm tractor. Here's a repost of photos from another thread, showcasing the death of Kevin Eugene's Sig Kadet Mk 1 from way back in 1976 or so:

He's only smiling in the after photo. You would think it would be the other way around!

Yeah...but you never knew with Kevin Eugene...he could go from smiling to smashing his gear in a heartbeat! He came from a fairly well-to-do family in our small town, and used to really irritate me with the way he'd destroy expensive gear with his temper tantrums or indifference to taking care of stuff. I was counting and tracking 2-56 machine screws, while he'd leave expensive radio gear out on the back porch to be rained on.
But, he DID use the wing to build his "Bonanza" (which was hyper-sensitive in pitch...thanks to the large ruddervators). The thick Kadet wing gave him fits trimming it when he'd try to chase my thin-winged Goldberg Shoestring.

Dang, I go away on vacation only to come back to find the "Flying RR1" torch has not only been passed, but I've been thoroughly thumped with it.
Awesome adventure, Kim. And thanks for the great story too.

Thanks Rusty! But as far as I'm concerned, YOU are THE RR-1 Dude. What I couldn't achieve with performance, I tried to make up for in numbers !!!!
