Re: .010 parts
You know,
I noticed that head right off the bat, I assumed it was an Estes mod. If someone turned down a .020 head they did a darn good job of it. That head while slightly tweaked can be straightened and filed (carefully) and be made to look nice again. My suggestion to Mitch would be to swap it out for a regular one until we can find out what it is.

Re: .010 parts
Hmm well the top one is not what I would call standard anyway also could it be possible some of the first 010 production runs had turned down 020 heads?
I know the first ones did for sure.
Mudhen has 2 per production 010 heads including the one on the prototype tee dee 010.
I am intrigued about this now!

Me too as the normal heads get rounded out over time making it hard to get a decent bite with the tool. The head on Mitch's wouldn't have that problem. Still, obtaining one would be impossible anyway and I highly doubt Bernie or Matt would manufacture them. Another mystery head..........like we needed one more.

Re: .010 parts
I'll have to check the 1 or 2 .010 engines that I have. I also have some in OEM packaging I can check when I get back tomorrow.

sure ill take it man
Mitch,
I have a black tank that has a small piece cracked off on the outer flange. This will not affect operation. The fuel nipple is intact on this tank. May need some silicone after the tank back is screwed on where the screw hole is as there is a small crack in the tank back. This is a common problem if you over tighten the tank back cover.
Also found 2 .010 wrenches I don't need. PM me your address and there yours. No pliers allowed!!!!

I have 3 glow heads that look like the one Mitch is getting. They are all on the red tank/gold crankcase version. None of my NIP glow heads look like this though.

Re: .010 parts
Thanks to everyone for the input on the glow head. I can assure you it was not manufactured by me or Bernie.
I believe the two likest possibilities are that Cox did a limited run of these as an experiment in the 60's or early 70's or some aftermarket company manufactured a number of them.
Matt

Wonder if this is a result of production economies? The '4 fin' heads maybe had a small (but significant) scrap rate when the wrench notches were broached/milled. The '3 fin' heads have more meat for that operation. So the red .010's initially came with the 4 fins and somewhere in there Cox switched to the 3 fin design by the time the black .010's came out.
Idle speculation is my stock in trade.

if it is estes, what makes it different???
man that was quick Matt, the engine arrived today everything is perfect and the glow head even works I'll have to get a .010 prop and a recoil starter spring from you.
P.S. Thanks for the free .049 crankcase gaskets as it is perfect because i was thinking the other night when i was custom building a couple .049's how much i needed gaskets
And again thanks Matt

Oh? wonder why
I guess cos it's got the NV on the venturi and not built into the tank.

oh, that makes sense, but wouldn't one be worried about air leaks because it still has pressure in the crank case?

Nope, you should be good.
It should have been good and tight, unless I left the screws loose
