Fall S.M.A.L.L. 2024 Thursday October, 17th.
So, rolled into Plumerville, Arkansas yesterday evening, and got my little base camp set up in some pretty strong winds.
Had a cold night for great sleeping...no air conditioner needed...and socked in a good 6 hours of rest.
This all doesn't really start 'till Thursday, but I felt like getting a jump on things
Feeling good, and gonna get in some quick flights this morning before the breezes come back up, so stay tuned.
The Load-Out Ritual:

Re: Fall S.M.A.L.L. 2024 Thursday October, 17th.
Thank You Guys!!!!
Wednesday:
I put up some early photo flights to get ahead of the wind...which did come up through the day, though not as high as Tuesday's.
My little Carbon Cub "Problem Child", has become the Go-To for gusty wind flying, and can pack along a couple GoPros without too much protest (keep your speed up on those turns-to-final!), so it was saddled-up with a top-mount camera for a look around Sky Tiger Field.
Kevin rolled in late in the morning, and unloaded his collection, which had been "compressed" into his vehicle. His plane designs run from 1960's classics to a some "modern" makes, and the guy can have a bunch fun with his rubber band planes and his somewhat trademark Flying Saucers.
The field's owner, David, showed up along with the wind, Greg and Carl, and one other rounded the day off to 6 flyers...looks like a good start for this year's event.
Cool Mornings and Hot Coffee...the stuff dreams are made of!
............................................................
Sky Tiger Field, with "Lake S.M.A.L.L." right next door.
............................................
Kevin and his Sig "Parasol":
Greg launches Carl's "Shark Face":
Kevin and his electric "Senorita":
........................................................................
So, call me an old codger, but I got too lazy to put these guys up when the winds calmed in late afternoon...they should get their turn today.
The coffee is gone and it's time to charge some stuff so, as Leonidas would say, "Airplane Nerds, Prepare for GLORY!!!"

Yeah, Kevin---one of the main players is gonna bail around mid-day Friday to go bear hunting, so I wanted to be here when he arrived on Wednesday.
It's been a great trip so far, and I'm getting some good sleep, which highly affects my general attitude!!!!!

Re: Fall S.M.A.L.L. 2024 Thursday October, 17th.
I didn't get quite as good a night's sleep this time, so not much writing this morning. Here's a sort of photo album, with just a few of yesterday's happenings. I promise a bit more variety and maybe a video in the next attempt!
Thanks to the nearby Little Rock Air Force Base, we were treated to a bunch of low fly-bys of C-130's. The locals hardly notice them, but I nearly smacked Little Traveler for having to watch them go by.

Thank you KIM
I flew in a C130 in Saudi to remote airbase in the desert. When prop pitch was applied the
tugging thrust was amazing from the turbo engines. You could feel the weight of the craft being
taken over by the brut power. Will never forget that early morning flight in the dark to escape
the threat of ground to air attack and the joy when the risk was over. The landing felt like butter,
floated in with a minimal load on a sunny morning with 11 engineers 2 pilots and 2 crew members.
