Coved-19 and how it affects life
Yesterday morning I awoke at 5:30am and headed for Winchester Virginia some 23 miles away to visit my banks ATM and do some shopping at Walmart. Hit the ATM then drove across the street to Walmart. 6am opening time and the parking lot was full and a line of customers wrapped around the building. Unbelievable as this is my usual shopping time and normally I'm about the only one in the building.
Not for me. I hate lines but I need essentials as I only shop one day a week at the most. Turned around and headed for the Food Lion in Romney West Virginia, an equidistant 23 miles from my house only in the opposite direction. Got there at 7am just as the store was opening. Empty parking lot and me and a couple of old duffers ambled into the store unmolested.
Drove home just as the sun was coming up enjoying life and the isolation of West Virginia.
My daughter works in Costco's Pharmacy in Winchester, describes lines out the door around the building and into the parking lot. My daughter in law works at a bank in the same area. They allow just ten people into the bank at any given time. Both daughters are on the front lines of this thing, dealing with customers face to face. I fear for them both.
They and my son insist on doing my shopping for me to limit my exposure, at 82 they say I'm "susceptible." Heck, I could run all three into the ground. No-way I'm going to let them risk their lives to limit my risk of contracting this stuff.
Stay healthy and safe out there.

KRQE: Gov. Lujan Grisham issues ‘stay at home’ instruction for New Mexico residents
KRQE News wrote:Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a statewide “stay-at-home” instruction Monday to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in New Mexico. The “stay-at-home” orders go into effect at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 and run until April 10. [....]
As of Monday, March 23, there are 18 new cases in our state, the largest single day jump, putting the total to 83 cases in New Mexico. Gov. Lujan Grisham also said there are cases in 11 counties. Right now, there is a community spread of COVID-19 in Bernalillo and Santa Fe counties. Of the 83 cases, nine required hospitalization. One person is from Arizona. Three required intubation. Five remain hospitalized. [....]
The order advises New Mexicans to stay at home and restrict mass gatherings. A “mass gathering” is now defined as any public or private gathering that brings together five or more individuals in a single room or connected space, confined outdoor space or an open outdoor space. Those who violate may face a $100 fine.Enforcement
The state will be watching to make sure businesses are in compliance with the order. Violators of the public health order could lose their license to operate. They can also face civil or criminal penalties. People can report a violation to the non-emergency COVID-19 state hotline at 1-833-551-0518.

My son went to the Barber's Shop today for a haircut. Only difference was hand washing and one customer in the shop at any one time. Tomorrow, the state of Queensland has local govenment elections. So, stay shut up in your house, can't sit in a cafe on your own and have a coffee, keep 1.5 metres away from everyone, but go and get a hair cut and allow someone to stand right behind you and put their hands all over your head, and oh, by the way, if you don't attend a polling booth tomorrow and stand in the queue you get fined $133. Oh, I know, they're asking everyone to take their own pencil. Sure, that will protect everyone

I replaced the wipers on our SUV, downsizing my possessions, installed new timer switches for bath exhauster and infrared heat, ordered things needed from the Internet. Sound system at our local Salvation Army Corps has a bad powered speaker, so donating a new one I just received from the mail.Ephesians 5:15-16 (World English Bible) wrote:Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Time to get caught up around the house.
Oh, and I just wanted to add, my wife learned to cut hair 35 years ago when I bought one of those Wahl home barber kits. (Wahl also makes professional barber equipment, we still have those original shears, a testimony to the quality of their products.) May be your son or someone in the family could purchase on-line, such shears and become the family barber.
The only difference between a bad hair cut and a good one is 2 months.

Most of the hair that I have left to cut is on my face . Takes Janet 5 minutes to sort out the remnant on top (well, around the sides).
No speakers necessary at our church. Fully closed by government ruling. No services, no meetings, no singing. Funerals restricted to 10 people 1.5 Mt apart. Weddings limited to 5 people, Bride, Groom, Celebrant and two witnesses.
Everything else now has to be on-line. I dearly hope we can return to normal one day.

I still have hair left on top of my head and around and my wife volunteered yesterday to chop it off with a beard trimming shear set at 12 mm-s.
Some say the hair that disappears from men's head at our mature age will sooner or later reappear protruding from the nose and ears so we men do not have worry..

Re: Coved-19 and how it affects life
My Dad was bald from an early age, late 20's. Kept the usual half-moon trim until he finally just kept going up with the electric razor cutting the whole thing predating the current trend. I have managed to keep some, thin enough but covers my whole head if you forgive the high forehead thing. But, I do need a haircut, pigtails in the future maybe. Barber shops closed in WV and surrounding states.
My brother turned 87 two days ago. Nursing home in Florida and isolated. Parkinson's. Mind is sharp but not the body. His wife can only visit him through a window, familiar nursing home sight nowadays. Big step down for a guy once known as Ape-man in his college days. Covid-19 creeps in everywhere.

Hoping all my CEF friends and their families atay safe amongst this virus. As for us, situation still normal. The better half is a hairstylist and still cutting away. In our small town, 2 of the 4 salons have since closed for their own reasons, not yet regulated. And as for me, working on public transit, we are still running business as usual with the only exception of 'social distancing'. Meaning that passangers are to be 6 feet apart, so a standard bus will legally hold 6 - 7 passengers. But so much has closed down in teh big city that the streets are pretty empty and many fewer vehicles are driving.

My wife is a nursing asst and med tech in a nursing home...thats the part that scares me! But they are on lockdown and no one there is sick. Our county only has 5 cases and they are people that traveled. We are very rural...I havn't even left our property in over 2 mos. Just putzing with planes!
PS....my spring haircut is long overdue...but not high on my list of priorities!

Re: Coved-19 and how it affects life
Yes, my wife has been a nurse tech at our local (big corporate) hospital. They now have active Covid19 patients IN the hospital, on the 9th floor in Isolation rooms, just below the Heli-pad for the AreoMed ambulance. She works on 7th floor Womens/mother-baby, so it’s still sterile as possible. Employees have to fill out a “health report” before reporting to work and show the “green dot” check mark on their cell phone as they enter the building and have their temp taken. Just recently the hospital updated/revised the guidelines for employees and methods of preventing exposure or transmission of the virus. Other than washing your hands, the one I like the best is the suggestion that at the end of your shift upon returning home, to remove your clothes outside before entering the house. This has made her entrance and “Honey I’m home” a-lot more interesting and fun. It’s OK for us, we live in a somewhat secluded area. I wonder what the employees who live in downtown apartments or condominiums do?

Re: Coved-19 and how it affects life
I might be fantasying but I may have already had the virus. All the symptoms, headache, took one of my average five aspirins a year, sick, cracked open my only can of Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup, nighttime sweats, dry cough, sorest back that I have ever had without lifting anything heavy, and deep malaise. After about ten days of that I feel pretty good now. Most infected people never see a hospital.
Taking off your shoes before entering your house is good advise too. All those sneezes have to fall somewhere.

I've kinda been through that off and on a couple weeks myself. Kinda like the beginnig of a cold that comes and goes. I have had the cough due to meds I'm on for my heart,so thats nothing new! Not a lot of energy lately....but getting out in the fresh air would probably help! Our weather has been pretty yucky,!

Re: Coved-19 and how it affects life
I've a suggestion for you guys, sounds a bit silly but what about putting #64 orange rubber bands around your knuckles? It looks like if you stretch them out real good it'll fit ok, #33's might feel better. You'll probably notice them before you stick your hands in your face. You might only need them for a few days, then your trained. Non-latex would be much better, I know i can't have latex band-aids on longer than a couple days without an allergic reaction. Maybe someone makes wrist bands large enough, similar to these:
https://www.wristbandexpress.com/custom-bands/silicone-configurator/
I suppose you could custom print Cox Engine Forum on them.
And just to put my $$ where my mouth is, I just bought these #33's, I need them anyway by doubling up for #64 use, and maybe I'll unload them at work:
https://www.amazon.com/Alliance-37338-Non-Latex-Contains-Approx/dp/B008X09YJ2
#64 alternative, noticed they are hard to find, maybe they're more needed for medical use?
https://www.staples.com/Alliance-Orange-Non-Latex-Rubber-Bands-64-3-x-1-4-1-lb-Box/product_686440
Here's different sizes too: https://www.rubberband.com/about-us/rubber-bands-size-chart
I suppose it's harder to wash your hands though... But, after all this blows over, you'll have plenty for flying your 80's planes!

Re: Coved-19 and how it affects life
Some of my thoughts...
I work from home these days anyway so there was no transitional period like many.
Unfortunately many of the retail / service folks are out of work, both me and my sister
have science degrees so we are working. I am a gulf war vet and now my sister is a war
vet the enemy is small but powerful. She is on the front lines as a RN at a military
hospital and they are now getting an influx of patients. The lucky ones move out of
ICU and into a transitional phase of repair to damaged lung and organ cells rather than
put into a body bag. CDC thinks we will have a US death toll potential 100 to 200k.
The enemy is in America destroying and killing lives from 1,049 cases two weeks ago to this graphic below today.
Time for strength time to save our families time to teach and enforce protocols to those that are lazy or selfish
or not strong enough to do right on their own. Prepare to stand and deliver. Make sure to set up your cell phones
for video chat with all immediate family members. The dying are not allowed to have loved ones at their bed sides.
Prep for the worst for peace of mind, make every day count for the ones that matter and suffer with less by staying
home if you can to help those who can't.
Link to this interactive graphic today is current - in two weeks from now it will likely be more than most can bare.
