Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
Congratulations on figuring-out the circuitry on the aircraft carrier Robert!
So.. You've got X2 more on the way? If they need battery packs, Amazon has 9.6v./1500mAh NiMh packs with chargers.. (2-pack) for cheap $$
Amazon link
The NiMh packs are less critical of charge "cycling" as opposed to NiCd packs.
They're a "turn-key" replacement..
Just an FYI... That's a 4-cycle plug. I've read that they run HOT.. which could cause timing (detonation) issues. Good to know that the little engine has decent compression though..
It cleaned-up nice too!!

Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
Thanks roddie for both comments. I think that all will contain batteries, no reason not to send contained within the ship they are not LI. But, how good will they be. And those have the correct connectors.
And......unobservent me.....I never realized those plugs were 4 cycle until you mentioned it. I didn't even have to check, read it right there on my picture. I do have some 4 cycle engines. Guess I will remove it and find another.
I did have a lot of fun cleaning it up, years on the cabins hutch with the battery compartment open. I was happy that no mouse nested in there. I'm taking up all the quarter round moulding around the baseboards getting ready for carpet. The last major evolution to take place out there.

I was thinking earlier on; that the battery-bay cover may have been left off..
no sign of poops?
Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
Yeah, no poops but better yet no urine. They are nasty little creatures. I often used a leaf blower "air broom" to clean the cabin, left lot's of stuff floating around the air much of it finding it's place inside the hull. That big black block is just ballast. They did a lot right constructing this thing.
I have been trying to find pictures of the hutch with the ship on it. Had to be sometime after Christmas 2012. I still can't remember how I came about it. I still think Mark and a flea market buy.

I spotted-it in the below pic. Top shelf.. above your big "water-jet drive" cabin cruiser..

Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
Thanks Rod, it is HSP, I have been reading it as a stylized ASP. It's the only new non idle bar plug that I have. If I find the time tomorrow I will run it just to check. Who has the best price on glow plugs today?
#4's about the best price I have found..........

And guess what? The ebay reference you gave us states "4c", the same as your HSP package.

That is funny. 4C? What is that? If it said 4S for four stroke.............
But, just now the seller of my second Challenger buy cancelled. I thought it funny. He accepted my offer of $30.........down from an asking of $49.95 with only $7.45 shipping. He would lose money which he probably found out when he checked shipping at the Post Office. I suspect I will see it listed again shortly.
Pretty nice one.
That's Ok. The kid still gets one, but not the cabin one. I have grown attached to it.
I have looked at many of these on ebay. One seller sent me a low offer with $60.00 off his asking price with low shipping. I accepted.
NIB
Yeah, I know - hopeless.
I found another picture, this one around 1 sept. when Mark and I were just getting going on the cabin.

I like the Jim Walker Firecracker…. I think these were .065?….. Would be fun to fiddle with one of those that had the throttle…. Baffle in the exhaust linked to a choke plate for the venturi…. Sort of a primitive carb….The carrier will look cool sailing across that pretty pond…..

I don't know..........065/.049? Guess I will have to look closely at all of mine to see if there are any noticeable external differences.
Picture is from an old Ron Cribbs post. He was helping a friend sell some engines.
More boat.
The starboard engine quit running, hit it direct with 9.6V and it started again. Reconnected, it runs with the transmitter but not as smooth as the inboard motor. Lubed it a bit on the shaft and the shaft prop end with RemOil and it smoothed out. I will give it a few more days before I button it up to try on the pond. Should be ok, but I don't know about watertight integrity.

Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
I would think 4c is 4 cycle. 4 strokes use a hot plug due to the need for idle transition. The card states 5%-40% nitro. I find that very difficult to believe. That's too much of a temperature swing for one single plug. I can see 5%-15%- and then 15%-35% and so forth. The element of a hot plug which utilizes 5% nitro is quite thin and the area around the element is fairly large. A plug which is designed for 40% nitro has a heavy element and a colder temp with a narrow opening around the filament. A cold plug also offers much more resistance due to the thicker element requiring a very good battery.

I would have said the same, but the very fact that the % of 4 cycle engine out there compared to 2 cycle engine doesn't justify the fact that HSP plugs are prolific on the market and seem to all claim (well, the packaged ones anyway) that they suit 4c engines. It just wouldn't make sense to market the plugs to the relaively low number of 4 stroke flyers.
I thought that 4 stroke plugs generally had an extended nose and these plugs look to be a conventional standard type configuration.

Re: Destructive deconstruction - The Chinese Russian Carrier gives in
Well maybe I should have spent the $35 on a pizza and a beer....
The second Chinese/Russian plastic boat/carrier arrived via FedEx. Unlike UPS which cannot find my house FedEx did. Spent much of the last two days on-line and on the phone tracking my UPS chainsaw down. Next door neighbor had it.
Started out fine. Seller packed it right and shipped next day. Box a little worn but I have repaired worse. Packed as if Mars was it's destination.
Dusty and different, switch and charging port now under a cover on the deck. I think this is the first edition, then the bean counters started cutting things. Notice no alpha designator after the hull number. Later editions had A thru F.
Missing accessories - receiver antenna, radar dome, stand, and charger. Instructions are printed on the bottom of the box.
Heat distortion. Looks like it was stored in the attic. Island is a mess.
I was just going to charge it and run it, but something big and heavy is rolling around in there. Maybe a motor has come loose, so I will have to take it apart which will be a problem as all the screw mounting holes are heat distorted. I will have to drill the heads off many to get it apart. No mercy, after a brush down with warm soapy water I hosed it off. Yup, water dripped out of the hull when held on end. But, it's clean.

I remember Ken saying that the Fireball plugs were cheaper than most.. and this eBay link pretty much confirms that...

Thanks roddie. Got it. I'm down to just a couple of idle bar shorties. I have been robbing other engines from their plugs to get the one I need.
If possible, this one was harder to take apart than my Cabin Challenger. I had to drill the heads off some of the screws, and they are steel, not brass or aluminum. Challenger, they named it correctly. Took about everything I had. Recessed screw holes were mis-shapen. I had to go though my alphabet soup of bits to find the correct one that fits. PH2! Finally put one of the screws on the bit to find the correct one. Small differences in these Phillps heads means a lot.
About drove me nuts eight thirty at night after a day on the tractor.
The loose thing in the hull turned out to be the ballast that had broken loose. Charging the battery now to see if it's going to work. More circurity required to support the on-deck on/off switch and charging port.

Probably ought to drizzle a little lube on the bronze motor bearings…. Finally got a can …. My old rusty .410 will appreciate it too
I use this oil , easy to put a drop.
