Yep, as well as a 'production' 09! The mold would be really expensive
Matt
Really, that is interesting.Would the .020 product backplates be very expensive to produce?
I think it would be more up at 80 but I was talking to Matt about .010s a while back bit it doent look like it's going to happen buy I've been wondering about them since they stopped being produced.
As I like experimenting but don't Luke risking ireplacable parts.
Imagine a gas .010
Hopefully soon you'll see a diesel one from me but don't count on it anytime soon.
ve to get made. Then you would have to get the rest of the parts for the 020 made lol.
Matt
The whole thing would be nice, (to have the .020 in production again) do you have a ballpark estimate on pricing? I think we were just interested in the backplate, though.
I am not Matt but I would put prices at around $80 for the complete engine or maybe down to $65 but realisticall 80 sounds about right once production, mold and CNC costs are factored in.
$65 would be an awesome price. Makes begin to wonder about the .010....
Re: Cox International wish list
Not a terrible retail, but $40,000 is a lot of cash to invest for a engine that may not sell enough to make it profitable.

Matt:
I so totally agree with your position and only remind others that this is a BUSINESS proposition and not a hobby for you. How can it be otherwise?
To venture ANY amount of money in uncertain and potentially volitite times is a very uncertain venture.
What's not to understand?

Can't remember the mane of the man who did it, but he did a Cox .010 four stroke conversion.

That's what I was getting at. You either do it for love or money, the latter usually not being the case, and if you expect that, your dreams can be short lived in this time period.
You would have to do a sign up, initial non-returnable, prepay type of deal, just to make sure you would have a roof over and a can of beans left over on the shelf.

It's been done before, heck, I have even gone in on deals like that. albeit they were small pieces, but it did work out.
400 x $100 per = $40,000.
Find 400 happy and willing people.

And shipping.
But i think we can get 400 to buy it.

Realistically, it might be as high as $150 per,,just all depends on the lowest bidder for the outsourced work. If the price comes in at a slightly lower amount,,then it would be palatable I think.

yes another reliable option for small engines would be greatly apreciated.
Re: Cox International wish list
What about recreating some of the plastic models like the PT-19 and then shipping it with a product engine? Might not be practical nowadays, but would be neat.

But if backplate molds are expensive imagine the cost of plane molds. Yikes!!!!!

Would it be possible to relocate some of the old moulds? What happened to them all?
Re: Cox International wish list
I've heard from the RC Universe forum (maybe from Cox International, I can't really tell anymore) that there was going to be entirely new Tee Dees .049 soon... Does anyone have news on this?
I also wonder if somebody reprints those cardboard boxes, with their inserts... I have lots of "orphan" engines, it would be great to have them exposed in a box...
I tried to reprint them myself, but it's not what I'm expecting:
I also tried with a .010 Tee Dee insert, looks better, but I'm unable to get that "glossy" finish original ones have

Yes we were talking about that because they might sell better than .010 or .020s I think they were going to have a slightly different design and be unboxed but you'll have to talk to Matt or Bernie.

I think Estes destroyed them.
Re: Cox International wish list
There was a guy a while back that made some pretty good reproduction boxes. I am not sure who he was though.
The TD 049 is still a way off (if it ever was to happen) in my opinion.
Yeah, Estes had the nasty habit of destroying good merchandise/tooling/molds.

OK i know that there was a guy that Arne Hende hired to make boxes for his diesels and there was also a guy who made some reproduction cox and other brand boxes in the UK i'll se if i can find him.
