Ever wished you could mount your Pee Wee .020 like a Killer Bee or SureStart? Ever wanted to use an external tank for longer run times? Need another conversation piece (who doesn't)?
Designed and produced by longtime forum member Jason_WI (Jason Birnschein). More than seven months of development and testing. 3D printed from DuPont carbon fiber reinforced Zytel, withstanding temperatures up to 150°C. Each backplate was hand finished and carefully inspected.
Includes: reed, retainer, crankcase gasket, crankcase screws, and mounting screws. Does NOT include a needle valve assembly! Requires a 128 TPI needle valve assembly sourced from a .049 "postage stamp" backplate. For best results and the ease of tuning, using an 80 TPI needle valve assembly supplied with the SureStart and other horseshoe backplate product engines is not recommended. Update: With further testing, a short stem 80 TPI needle did produce satisfactory results. See this post for more information: https://www.coxengineforum.com/t13351p25-cef-020-horseshoe-backplate#172040

Note on needle valves: For the ease of tuning and best stability, a 128 TPI needle valve assembly will be desired. This must be supplied by the modeler and is not included with the backplate. These needle valves are most commonly found in early "postage stamp" product engines. Below is a picture showing the difference between a 80 TPI (right) and 128 TPI (left) needle. Update: With further testing, a short stem 80 TPI needle did produce satisfactory results. See this post for more information: https://www.coxengineforum.com/t13351p25-cef-020-horseshoe-backplate#172040

Beautiful piece of work!! If I had no radial mounts for my TeeDee020-s I would certainly buy some no matter the shipping distance and customs duties..

WOW! Most of my Free Flight models are PeeWee .020 powered, so this would be ideal for them! I must find a way to order and pay for them. 25 units will sell quickly.

Y'all know I'm a sucker for twins. Would it be obnoxious to order two? I'll wait a bit...but if they don't sell fast, I'm hoping to take the last two.

11 left.
On the last ten I’m waiting for the spray bar seals to come in from Cox International so there may be a slight delay in getting them out. If you don't need the seal just add that to the comments when you place your order and the backplate will ship right away.
This is what I’m waiting for:

Where will all the 128TPI needles be coming from lol; they are not an easy find and we ran out of stock a long time ago.
Will they really not work with the "Surestart" spraybars/needles? We have 1,000's of those spraybars and needles and could take at least 50 backplates (only the plastic part) as we have all the other bits. We also have lots of Babe Nee spraybars and needle valves.

As of right now the buyers will have to extract the NVA from an old postage stamp backplate if they don't already happen to have any loose...
I haven't had a chance to do test runs for myself, but it appears that the engine becomes too "touchy" and difficult to tune when used with a 80 TPI needle. I'll let Jason answer this one.
Re: CEF .020 Horseshoe Backplate
This is the 80 TPI run video from the development thread of the backplate.
I wanted to see if it would run with an 80 TPI NVA from a sure start backplate. It runs but the needle setting is very touchy which is expected. Same prop and fuel as previous runs.

Re: CEF .020 Horseshoe Backplate
Hm, not too bad ….
Perhaps a Babe Bee needle & spring will fare better? If you are interested, let's touch base next week to see if we can work something out.
Interestingly, we have OEM Cox drawings for a .020 Die Cast Surestart engine that Cox was working on but never went into production.
