Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
No Saabs in the pics Bob, although there was at least one 99 participating, small turn signals but rubber bumpers, puts it in about ’72 to ’76.
I didn’t know Simca’s were imported to the USA, I guess it was for a short period only? Not a lot of those in Finland either.
The cars in my pics are as follows:
1. Datsun 100A, not sure if it ever was available in that colour though, most of them were in metallic gold, silver, light blue or such.
2. Opel Kadett ’B’ coupé
3. Volvo PV 544
4. Ford Anglia
5. VW Beetle
All of these were quite common in Finland when I was a kid.

That 's what I had in mind. The Opel Kadett is the rallye version. The small Datsun, I remember them as being orange most of the time. Great you could take the pictures each time between the trees.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Wash day.
Never did three at a time. In fact I doubt if I have washed the 350Z or Accord four times each since I have owned them. In Florida, about once a week.
Favorite is the 350Z, just a ball to drive. 127K miles and it's perfect. Sentimental favorite is the CR-V. Bought new in 2007 when my wife was with me. She would drink coffee in the customer lounge while I kicked tires and did the paperwork. After six new Hondas she knew the routine. The Accord is just transportation.

Thanks Lieven, for some reason I thought the Panhard was British. Should have know better. I only know of it what you have posted in the past. Gave me the chance to learn.
Second and third ones are cute.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Quite a coincidence, to run into this obscurity twice in a short time, albeit in pictures. A car/technology magazine that my dad subscribes, features a ”50 years ago” portion, and in a recent issue there was a Simca test drive. ”Speedy Candy” is the rough translation of the heading That’s the ”1200 Special” with a higher-output engine. 65hp I think

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Dad was not a car guy. Period. But he bought odd makes. The Essex for example. Also VW Squarebacks, Plymouths, Nash, and Nash Ramblers, Willys, and that Simca. Probably others that I can't remember. Other than those he had just two Chevrolets, and no Fords.
Mom drove a Willys like this:
Kari, I hope that I never have to learn Finnish. Kaarrek................ etc.etc. I have trouble pronouncing dog and cat.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
I meant to comment that your dad had seemed to have a taste for ”different” cars. Rambler, Simca etc. I imagine a Saab or two might have fit in the selection, as SAAB USA started out in North East in the late ’50s. You may have inherited some of that, the English Fords, not to mention Fiat’s that you showed earlier really were something else in the USA. Guess those comments were in the double post I deleted.
My dad had a Fiat 125 Special in the late ’70s, a 10 year old car back then. Kinda weird to see one just like it a few decades later in a museum!
It had the 1600 twin cam engine and dual carb, a little over 100hp. A little later he traded it for an almost new metallic burgundy Saab 96. Here’s a moss green example of the model in the same museum.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
I looked through "Bring-A-Trailer" auctions this morning and found three that gave me an Oh- moment.
https://bringatrailer.com/auctions/
1941 Plymouth convertible. I had a 1950 powder blue convertible in my High School years and will never forget it. The '41 is quite rare, last year produced before WW2.
1963 Buick Riviera. Had one. Fastest I have ever driven a car, might have been a little tipsy at the time. Never did that again but it was memorable.
And a 356 Porsche replica. Originals are out of sight.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Speaking of cars, just wondering if anyone might be able to help. I have a customer's '62 Ford Thunderbird in the shop. Simple task of jacking up the engine and replacing a damaged sump. In doing so discovered a broken engine mount. Got a full set and installed them. Not all that easy. I noticed a coolant leak and discovered that the fan hub had crashed into the radiator. Mounts line up ok. Confirmed as correct parts. For some reason the engine is now sitting nearly 1" further forward. Doesn't look like the mounts can go in the wrong way. All line up ok, just that something seems to be forcing or blocking the engine forward.
Anyone out there super familiar with these?

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Could it be that the impact that caused the sump damage, also broke the motor mount, which in turn allowed the powertrain move about, causing the fan hub to hit the radiator? Or maybe the impact caused the radiator move and hit the hub? Or did the hub hit the rad only after the mounts were replaced?
Sorry, I am no expert on T-Birds, or any other car in particular. But to me it all seems "connected". A broken engine mount will allow the engine move around, and in a traditional RWD layout, even the movements of the rear axle can transmit to the engine/trans unit.
I hope it all works out somehow.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Thanks Kari. The radiator was fine before I replaced the sump & mounts. I'm afraid I've damaged it, but it's got me beat what's caused the engine to sit forward so much more than before. The mounts compare fine. I'm starting to think that when I jacked the engine up something has got caught and is not allowing the engine to return to the correct spot.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
Jeff, may be it is the driveshaft spline or aft end of the transmission, shifter hub, speedometer cable connector, or trans. mount that inadvertently is catching on something? If new engine mounts are mounted backwards, a half inch off will double to 1 inch. I'm sure once you find it, it will surprise you. In the past I have made a simple mistake or overlooked something, doesn't take much.

Re: Cars, cars, and more cars
You didn't remove the engine Rod, you just jacked it up. Driveline didn't shift so it has to be the mounts. After-market, OEM or junk yard? What does the driveshaft look like?

Rod,
Probably not much I can tell you seeing as you specialize in this stuff. If you didn’t have to pull the engine forward to reach the new mounts then it should have sat right down where it was supposed to have. My only thought would be the trans mount tore when you raised the engine to do the sump. ‘62 is a beast of a T-bird, I don’t envy you at all.
I am sure you will figure it out, if you haven’t already.

Not for the deer. I checked my rear-view mirror fearing for the deer. Was relieved to see that it wasn't laying in the middle of the road. Seemed to be no problem with the car, but I stopped in a parking lot and the door caught on the fender as I opened it. A glancing blow, but the following week I saw a dead deer in the general area. Not sure if it was mine or not. The body shop where I went for an estimate just pulled the fender out a bit eliminating the bind.
Still driving it as is. I will probably pull the fender and dolly the dent out saving the fender and maybe a not so matching paint job. The extra $400 was to "blend" the fenders paint over into the door.
