When pulling out some gifted .049s to clean up, I found this little booklet in the box. It’s a 64 page booklet that tells you almost everything you need to know to get going with model engines:
The booklet only measures 3½ x 5 inches, which seems to have been a popular size for these little instruction booklets, so the printing is agonizingly small, necessitating my pulling out my old guy’s magnifying glass to read some of the small print. Even though the booklet is called the Glo-Engine Handbook, it also goes into pretty good detail about ignition model engines. The booklet covers everything from a complete list of Champion spark plugs for all popular engines of the times, to glow engine theory, to how to set up your own 3-line engine control, to making and mounting fuel tanks. Even has parts breakdowns and complete parts lists for all the popular glow engines at that time. I’ll have to take three or four hours to read it over fully. Lots of great information. Much of it coming from Flying Models and Young Men magazines.
I love these old instruction booklets!

Any chance you can get that well scanned and made into a pdf? Easier on the eyes to blow it up on a computer screen too!

Afraid not. That is a staging post - those engines are ready for oiling before putting away and a few of them need a bit more cleaning. Two of them need venturis and NVAs. More getting everything to fit than any order - just a reminder of little jobs to do! It is also the nearest thing I get to a display!
I work on the principle - "Out of sight, out of mind!" . That is my "Old Book" bookshelf - The Model Diesels book was first published in 1946 - that is a 1947 reprint. The open book at the side - Control Line Flying is a 1948 publication. Some of those books I have had for over 50 years.
A 1956 booklet is younger than me! But it prompted me to try the "panorama" setting on my camera. That picture was about the 25th attempt - one day I mught read the manual. Notice how well thumbed those books are though!
