Re: How's the weather?
For Fred...and anybody else whose toes are not numb at the moment.
The Mavic made a quick loop around the hill, with its battery complaining about the cold in spite of being kept inside (I tend to run the thermostat low at night). It paused a few times along the way, to give me a clear frame to capture, but mostly kept slicing through the frozen air...for a quick return to the front yard as my fingers gradually lost their feeling.
It IS beautiful, and I Do appreciate it...but more-so now that I've got a space heater aimed at my feet!

Wonderful pictures Kim, thanks for sharing. I love the flat(er) country, but Ridges can be beautiful, just not flying model friendly.
My neighbor plowed my driveway. Retired Sergeant Major and an important guy in the service. Head of our Homeowners association, salt of the earth and he thinks he has to look after me, old guy living alone.......
Got a picture of Frenchie Fred. New one isn't it?

Re: How's the weather?
Gus a male rescued by abusive owners, wife literally just took him from the home (he was posted on FB as free dog) without ever talking to the owner when she went to see the free dog---directly to our vet to be saved (I have pictures but way too graphic to do much but infuriate folks) Needles to say he is older for the breed and we strictly manage his diet and drugs...this WX had poor Gus's arthritis hurting more than mine
A few years back Gus and Sapherie, a brindle Frenchie went in for nasal surgery and Sapherie died from the anesthesia. SO that summer Renie over compensated by buying two baby females from 2 different breeders. Thalia and Gaia now about 4 years old
In the mix is a Chihuahua female one eye pitched out at 60 on the hwy...following car took her to our local shelter....I was there and rushed her to my vet who saved her and now at 14 she is slated to out live us despite zero bladder control any more.
We also have a thrown away CorkScrew Boston female Addi (cork screws are a weird defect with over sized torso and 5 inch twisted tail) who is final stages probably crossing the bridge this year...I spend a lot of time daily with this deaf and half blind old girl just giving back all the love and companionship she gave us these last 13 years
the thee amigos..GUS, GAIA and Thalia
Sapherie was a breeder litter runt not show worthy so offered for lower cost. She and Gus both had genetic breathing problems from pushed in snout...Requires surgical repair, saddle she did not survive the surgery and is deeply missed...Especially because she was our special needs child with occasional seizures and got lost a lot
\
This is ADDI our Corkscrew Boston deciding is she liked dads floor tile work....she did not, preferring every throw rug in the house
Younger Gus (Angus) still recovering and helping in the shop
Best buddies...Gus actually herded Sapherie when ever she was lost outside
Post cranium surgery every one of our family helped me regain cognitive skills lost to the stroke
Addi vulturing , for some reason she preferred over my shoulder to in my lap
Miss Kitty named for Gun Smoke Saloon owner..... very distinct character both the lady and this half blind no tooth ChiHuaHua
Sahperie and Addi

The surgeon upon hearing the story of my hair promised to preserve my long mane...In fact he cut the entry hole after carefully cutting away the "plug" to be later grafted back on and it took 84 hours with out blood circulation...Amazing Doctor who literally saved my life...TWICE in 18 months..as each clot lodged in an operable area of my brain.

That's great Fred.
A doctor saved my life in 1941 when there was very little life left in it. Direct line transfer from my Mom to me. No time to test type. A few years later Bobby Dickerson pulled me from a ice covered rapidly flowing river when everyone else was yelling "Your going to fall in too."
There are good people out there.

Re: How's the weather?
How's the weather? Snow, about twice as much as I pictured (above) that we got last time.
Neighbor plowed my driveway early then came back later and got the drifts. Haven't heard from Eric (getback) they got socked with ice down there in NC. Neighbor plows the driveway; I do in front of the garages and the walkways. I'm accomplished, been shoveling snow on and off for about 70 years now.
Cabin looks lonesome. No way I'm shoveling the walkway done there. Nikon taking better picture if I remember to press "scene" before.

Re: How's the weather?
Love those pictures, Kim. The Van, the Trailer, the "Tree" all familiar faces. The big red hangar, I see a Piper Cub with fat tires............
We get that storm tomorrow. More burn pile.
Edit add: Wow, they are calling for 10+ inches here. Reminds me of the March 14th storm of 1956 when New Hampshire got feet of snow. Dad drove me to the train station in Manchester about 18 miles away on the 15th with snow piled high to catch a train to Boston to join the Navy. I think the folks would have carried me the distance just to get rid of me.

Re: How's the weather?
I know the news has been "flooded" (pun intended) with Ukraine news, but have the Aussie floods managed to get onto your news? Massive areas have been hit. Rainfall totals like never seen before. Nowhere near us fortunately, but we're on a hill anyway and would be safe. New housing developments have recently been approved around here on flood prone land. I wish local governmend had enough sense to ask the question why no-one had built on certain areas of land over the past 200 years of white history. Maybe they should have asked a few of the older locals.

Re: How's the weather?
We too have had a couple more days this week of crazy weather. Not so much snow, but the winds made for zero visibility, less than 50 feet for long distances, and many closed highways yet again, and all were ones I need to use to get to work. So back roads home on Tuesday followed by the same this morning on the way in. And to top it off, we are expected to get another shot of this again tomorrow afternoon into the evening and overnight.

Yes Rod, our local weather channel has played something pretty much every morning about teh floods currently happening in Australia. I see this every morning when I watch the weather before heading to work.

There was something on the internet yesterday about someone rescuing a Duck Billed Platypus washed up on a bridge.

Platypus live in burrows alongside waterways, so I'd imagine they'd have to evacuate like the other locals. They can't breathe under water any better than I can, but are no-doubt better at holding their breath for longer.
We lost millions of critters in the fires a couple of years back. I guess Platypus and other river creatures are doing it pretty tough at the moment.
