Still waiting on the postal service to deliver Rusty's memorial engines, supposed to be today. Very Happy
Now that's something that we all can agree on and get behind!

Eric, don't worry over us. Bob is into fast sports cars, I am into motorcycles. So, being the rebels that we are, it is normal to have some sibling rivalry here in CEF, after all we are a family, perhaps a little dysfunctional at times, but overall still a family.getback wrote:OK you two That sounds Great George about the RTEs I was just thinking about that >> 73 F today spring weather pear trees budding ??!! Just be glad that neither one of us are climate scientists.
... and PS, just posted in:

Here, it is now 63ºF (17ºC) and sunny with moderate winds, very Spring-like.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
just west of Toronto, Canada and,
If you like [bleep] snow, we have it...
([bleep] snow is the heavy slushy stuff that freezes overnight)
Cannot complain, easy winter here, ground is barely frozen. (usually 2ft down this time of year)
The days are getting longer...
I hear of all the other weather, coming our way,
Hope you are all good,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Western KY
61°, overcast, winds 31 gusting to 53
Pretty breezy here with some electrical outages.
Update:
49°, overcast, winds 49 gusting to 63
Several rows of shingles took flight from garage; some soffit and flashing from front of house now in backyard; tree down in back yard; electricity just restored. Too windy to fly!!

Or, time to triangulate 3 guy wires to increase wind stability to mitigate homeless Martin's!

Re: How's the weather?
As I want to build a Purple Martin house I came across this.
Guess they like it up high. I have been thinking about 4" square white poly fence post covers in a group of six back to back about three stories high.
I built one, single two houses and hung it on the cabin years ago. Occupied each year by Wrens ever since.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Report, from just west of Toronto, Canada...
Wet snow, incoming, up to 10inches, on a very windy drifting snow Friday night...
Perfect packing snow, and nice weather for this weekend.
If you like building snowmen, forts, etc...
More fun, than shovelling it !
I hope this weather,
Is treating you better,
Heavy snow=small shovel,
Dave
P.S. If this storm hit here on a Monday morning, half of Canada, would take the day off...

Re: How's the weather?
Now that’s a serious Martin house Bob! !….. If you build one consider installing something like a boat trailer winch to raise and lower it…. When undesirables move in can let it down to remove their nests….. Mine telescopes but will like to build in a winch on the next one….. I let the sparrows build and lay a few eggs then remove them before they hatch….. They eventually get discouraged and move on…… Martins don’t mind you messing with their house, Even if they have little ones….
Sorry about so much snow Dave, Hope you get a break soon!!!

Bob, you forgot the one in the middle of the yard on a pole. After all, brown bears need a place to habitate, too.rsv1cox wrote:I built one, single two houses and hung it on the cabin years ago. Occupied each year by Wrens ever since.
At first it looked like a 6G tower. I guess you could say, each houses 6 Great Fly Catcher couples?
Looks like a rural city in either Oklahoma or Kansas I passed through some time ago.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Cable, then Power went out. So? I go outside... no trees down. Whee hoo.
Wicked big gusts of rare, very strong East winds. First time I have had slush blow up into my nose !
(slushy snow is the [bleep] stuff Canadians hate shovelling)
Martens are rare here. Nice!
Trying to get Barn Swallows/Bats around here...
So,
I get good at feeding the songbirds, Mum loves them...
Got a pair of these, I think,
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Sharp-shinned_Hawk/id#
10+ misses, 4 almost, and two kills. Over three years.
That I have seen.
Seems sparrows taste better than the other ones...
I wanted to feed a Blue Jay out of my hand. (I can get close)
Now,
I want the Sharp Shinned Hawks,
To help me,
Fill the bird feeder...
And perch, on my arm...
(way better than any Cox.049 and 36in span, by far.)
It is still better,
Than watching,
This slushy snow, come down.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
I am Canadian, easy going, no problems.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are no closer to a Stanley Cup. Who cares? (road hockey here ended decades ago)
But,
When the snowplow goes by,
For the 3rd friggin time,
Pilling up slushy 'snow' over 2ft deep, and it is still snowing 'slush'...?
There is a breaking point.
Detroit, Buffalo and Chicago can take all the Stanley Cups, they want. (the Leafs are still resting?)
I know snow.
Fluffy? Powder, some call it. Nice to look at, easy to shovel.
Packing snow? Dreams of snow sculptures you can make. (snowballs too)
Slush? Is basicly water and snow. Heavy, and a big pain to move.
Indigious North Americans have 1000s of ways to describe snow.
Slush, is the bottom of the list.
Take care,
Wait till it stops ,
Shovel slow,
It will melt by Spring,
Dave
P.S. heavy snow= small shovel.

Re: How's the weather?
Out and about this morning, blustery - waves again in the bird bath and the trees doing the hula. Power interuption about 7am. Jacket, knit Navy watch cap felt good. Stuff in the four car waiting for Spring and big shovel but no snow.
PVC fence post cover bird house that I mentioned hung on the cabins porch. Wren's yell at me when I pass.
Trees that have been there, done that and those that I ready to. I was hoping that this wind would take down a few more, victims of the Pine Bark Beetle.
Wedged this one a few days ago hoping that the wind would take it down. Scary tree. Goes straight up about 40 feet. No way of telling which way it will fall. Only one of many that I couldn't gauge. Don't want to be around when it does.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi rsv1cox,
The sun will show here this weekend. Plus temps will go up. Above freezing.
Dad could not do the last storm, too slippery.
He is itching to run the small Honda snow blower again.
He likes it, as do I.
Our joke is, ' It will melt, by spring '..
Thanks for your stories,
With Respect,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
I've seen those videos of amateurs (even with an official truck labeled as "professionals") cut one of those, with a Darwin moment of it falling on a shed or house. Yup, once down, easier to handle.
It may be 7 years ago, hired a professional to take down 5 such trees near our fence line. They did forestry work in California, did an excellent job scaling those cottonwoods and dropping them a short section at a time, work way beyond my means and worth paying the extra bucks to have it done.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Some days, just turn out so nice.
Sunny and almost warm here. +5C
Neibour has this killer snowblower, that had not run for at least 10yrs.
25hp Craftsman, vintage unknown. Almost scary/nasty.
Fired right up.
Erased all the 2ft heavy snow/slush up and down the street.
Within, 1/2 a tank and 1/2hour.
Now it is parked again.
If you do not like shovelling heavy slushy snow,
You missed it.
Now,
It is still packing snow...
Later,
Dave
