Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
just west of Toronto, Canada here.
Waiting to shovel, or get the snowblower fired up.
I tend to wait till it stops snowing, after the plow goes by.
This is greasy wet [bleep] (wet [bleep] is an official Canadian type of snow )
And you have to move it, before it freezes up...
You do not,
Want a T-shirt, that says you move this stuff...
The cool thing?
My 95yr old Dad loves the Honda snowblower, I cannot stop him.
Won't trade this day for anything...
Priceless...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Freezing rain here from Wed.afternoon. South southern Ontario. Tree branches were coated with an inch of ice. Big noisy cracks and thuds when big branches and trees hit the ground. Neighbours had to move branches off the streets to get out. Power was out from 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM Thursday. 25 hrs. Today, Thursday, you could not go outside till the afternoon because the melting ice would come off and smack you on the head. Interesting day fer sure. 3 fridges and freezers out but OK, and just below freezing outside but oddly enough the house was 60 degrees all day.

76° and sunny yesterday; 38° and overcast this morning. Getting ready to head to a nearby national recreation area (170,000 acres) with an old f@rt friend for a little trail walking this AM.

19ºF (-7ºC) and sunny here in eastern New Mexico.
aspeed lives near Detroit, Michigan and close to a Great Lake. It would be understandable why it is cold where he is at.

NZ Disaster
Just putting a call out to our Kiwi cousins ffkiwi (Chris) and davenz (Dave) to see if they're doing ok. I believe they're both located in the North Island whach has copped an absolute hammering from Cyclone Gabrielle. I've been holidaying in the South Island for over two weeks and the weather has been picture perfect apart from a bit of wind. I feel for the folks up north as much of the landscape has been obliterated by flooding, causing silt to completely bury the landscape, including homes, farms, businesses etc. Roads are gone, massive landslips, no way to get around apart from helicopter.
I haven't been keeping up with the forum while we've been away but have watched a heap of news reports which are flooding the TV. It's really bad and I hope these guys and any other Kiwis on here are safe.
Oldenginerod.

It doesn't matter what caused it, my concern is for the safety of those guys and their families. I hope we hear from them soon.
Global warming or otherwise, people have been killed and livelihoods destroyed. The priority focus is fixing the damage, but in the minds of those affected, that will take years and maybe things will never be the same for those folks.
I've just spent two weeks over there listening to the news reports and watching the images. Tragic!!

Re: How's the weather?
I lived in Florida Rod on and off for 50 years and went through several hurricanes, we were lucky, only lost trees and shingles. Hurricanes are a way of life there. Ian the latest, billions of dollars in damage 89 dead in Fort Myres alone. Not even talking about Katrinia or Andrew.
My best hope and wishes for those so affected there.

Re: How's the weather?
Yes, those hurricanes can be very devastating. We were in a Hurricane back around 1965 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Put a lot of debris in the yard, some beach properties got soaked from raging surf. Some people lost roof tiles. Lot of downed tree branches. Government had to dredge sand back on the beach because it washed out. Fortunately we weren't in the center, think it hit Alabama coast.
Summer 2007 we were in a Category 5 Typhoon (hurricane in the Far East) in Okinawa. However, they have a very strict building code there. Houses basically have commercial grade extra heavy duty windows, most houses are poured concrete although a few are wood. A portion of downtown Naha, couple blocks experienced flooding up to about 4 feet, but other than that, it came Friday, was over Saturday, Sunday was clean up, and we were back to work Monday.
We don't have hurricanes here in Clovis, New Mexico, but today we had high wind warnings, 35 to 45 MPH with gusts to 75. Sky was white with dust (gypsum laden dust in soil south and west of us, why White Sands National Monument is called such), almost like a fog. We are at the edge of tornado alley. It was not a good day to go anywhere.
When we lived in Gallup on the western side of the state, after such winds, it wasn't unusual to see a couple semi trucks with trailers tipped, RV's too after a very strong wind storm. Interstate I-40 passes through the Hogback Mountains on the east side of town, with a long bridge east of the mountains. Creates terrific vortex, these larger vehicles with inexperienced drivers who don't know how to slow down in windy conditions end up with vehicles wrecked by the forces of wind.
High winds from south and west brings white dust. East of us brings brown dust.

It made it's way to the East coast George. My daughter found it on her car. She's about seven miles away, I didn't see it here.

Re: How's the weather?
Yup, Robert, yesterday was like that. You are a hop-skip-and-jump from us.
Bob, those photos of your fallout don't seem to ring true of what is happening here. Instead, we see a fine dust on cars parked outside and where it leaks through the leakage of windows, a couple feet onto countertops, etc. It is definitely not splotchy fallout as those photos show. The dust is a light brown where it falls.
Also, traveling at say 50 MPH, I find it odd that those reports would be so soon in West Virginia, perhaps a state or two past Kansas or Missouri maybe. It started yesterday morning here.
Still windy here, gusts to be 43 MPH with winds to 21 MPH, but a clear sky today, 36ºF (2ºC) now.

Oh, what the news and various gov agencies are saying, I no longer have faith in those systems. The strange white powder deposits in your area and what I see deposited here, attributed to here, are two different things. The oddity of the winds supposed arriving in your area ahead of the time, when it is now in Kentucky ....
So, rather than give contention, which it now seems that truth, question everything, is false, somehow now I am a conspiracy theorist, ad nauseum.
So, rather than give contention, I have a lot better things to do than discuss non-engine and modeling issues. This is after all, a small engines forum site.

George, life is short. Don't dwell on the dark side. There is a divide in the diversity of thinking and opinion in this country presently that I have not seen in my 85 years. I am a pragmatic thinker, a gift from my Mother. Long ago I learned to identify the wheat from the chaff, but learned not to let the chaff upset me.

I think it best I PM you. Perhaps comical, but I find that over these 50 years, the tide has changed. Regarding the divide in thinking:rsv1cox wrote:George, life is short. Still waiting on the postal service to deliver Rusty's memorial engines, supposed to be today.
