Re: How's the weather?
How's the weather? How about a weathervane horse..... My son found it at the local flea market yesterday.
Brass patina with the requisite .22 caliber signature. Well placed heart shot I would think. Have to admit as a stupid teenager and much to my present regret I signed one. The limit of my delinquency though except for..............
Halestorm yesterday evening, 1/2" size pelted my back deck. We needed the rain.

Re: How's the weather?
Weird orange Full Moon.
(just west of Toronto, Canada)
Due to smoke from the Northwest.
Last year,
I put out a footbath, to catch/guage rainfall in thunderstorms here.
Weird.
There was black stuff. It was ash/cinders from (?)many miles/kms away.
Forecast is:
60% chance of 1/2 in (10cm)rain in the next two weeks.
Basicly, drought.
I cannot understand, ( beware, a rant)
How the heck is the Canadair215 WaterBomber , not in production.
Should be a CL415, 615, 715, 815 variants available.
(a 1015, four engine one would be nice, but not practical)
Rant over. Thanks.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
I would rather not talk about the weather...... This fat guy here does NOT do heat. With that said, average daily temperatures since mid last week have been around 86 - 91 degrees and with the humidex it has been around 100 degrees. And this has been a daily thing. Nice out now as it is only 86 with the humidex......
Been a few storms nearby, but somehow they usually skip by us giving us just a bit of rain while we could definately use a whole lot more!

Re: How's the weather?
Hi New222,
Humidex above 30C is my limit.
(not sure what it is in Fareinheight, but it would scare me even more! )
Back when we were kids,
Flying Cox planes, watching man go to the moon,
One, mabee two weeks would be hot/humid. Easy. August.
These days?
A 'hovering' thunderstorm was near here. Flooding.
Air conditioning. Before June. (Cox engines pre-date household air conditioners !)
I have no problems with Climate Change Deniers.
Tie them to the ground, give them water, just to keep them alive. Make them beg.
Sorry for the rant,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Almost 'dayglow orange' sunset, just west of Toronto, Ont, Canada.
Lucked into 40% chance of 1in rain.
There was a (1000grit?) thin film of black on the bottom of my white foot bath/rain gauge.
Last few days I have used this, a smoke map:
https://firesmoke.ca/
I found it accurate.
While inside the last few days, I learned on this laptop:
-there are ~3000 expert firefighters from all over the world, showed up to help. (you will notice it, )
-every man/woman/child in Canada would have to, 'take care of 60 acres of Boreal forest each year'.
-it is 15X the amount of fires, Canada has ever seen this time of year.
-as the permafrost melts, the boreal forest, grows further north.
Canadians, say, "I'm Sorry, eh ".
Usually for the cold winters, that drift south.
This is uncharted territory for us.
Sorry, eh,...
I hope the weather is good where you are.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Hi Dave, No-one in their right mind would blame Canada for the present smokey situtation here in the USA, lighting strikes and dumb campers from Los Angles could just as well be the cause. Prez says he's sending 600 to help. Needs to send those super tankers too.
Looks like rain Monday for all of us could help. Living here in the middle of a West Virginia forrest, fire season scares me most of all.

Now I know what round for weathervane! Some fathers kid probably got in trouble for shooting the horse weathervane.
When I was about 6 we visited Moms parents in Indiana, the thing at the time was a colored glass ball sitting in a birdbath in the front yard.
Well I had my BB gun and that glass ball had to go!
Patiently waiting this summers episode of Bobs bird feeder vs THE bear!!

Hi Bob rsv1cox,
Just some Canadian self depreciatng humor.
We get 'Alberta Clippers' here, that bring cold/snow each winter, just comes from Alberta.
I'm learning allot.
Fighting forest fires is brutal work.
Worldwide.
Canadian forest fire fighters, go south of the Equator each winter.
200 South African fire fighters showed up, a day after the problem arose. Check this out:
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=south+african+firefighters+canada#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e167bdbb,vid:1SIFev3YZ4k
Every spare forest firefighter is here.
1000 USA fighters here, a day or two after. Prez is modest.
Saw blue sky today, got stuff done.
I sent an email to my Prime Minister,
Asking why we cannot increase the production of our water bombers.
I feel better.
I'm learning about Carolinian Forests.
Amazing.
Needed rain coming...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

This year, 15X before May...Canada
You would not believe how the worldwide response has been:
-USA
-South Africa
-Australia
-New Zealand.
And every fire experts south of the equator.
A big Thank Full for them all.
World Wise, it is Amazing,
Take care,
Have fun,

Thank you Dave, your good news helped make my day. I heard nothing about this international cooperation on either of the cable or broadcast networks. They are to busy stirring up social and political issues here to broadcast anything positive.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi rsv1cox,
The fires are not out yet, but somewhat, 'controlable' now.
My flying buddy's son did this in his 20s. Went on to be a SAR tech.
This goes on, every frigging year.
Unless, it is really bad, no one hears about it.
That, is how good the World Wide forest fire fighters are.
On a good note,
I got an email back, from our Prime Minister's office.
They are 'looking into', getting the CL415 back in production, and improving it.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. How is the weather where you are?

We are in a moderate drougth, nice rain two days ago and a passing shower on my way home this morning from the dentist. Just enough to mess up my newly washed car and further brighten my day.

We had rain every day for the past week and a half, now dry past 2 days. The yards are now so green it hurts my eyes. Last week didn't realize it, but hail broke the rear cab light on my S10 pickup and put some nice dents in our 2013 Dodge Journey.

Bob, whenever I was driving around in the US, no matter if in Virginia, California, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, DC or else, I noticed that no matter the rain on the highways, the cars in your country remain way cleaner than in e.g. my country Hungary...roads are not so well kempt here, dust, dirt and mud accumulate on the pavement, and there is much more weed running along the edge of the highway, that I also have not seen so often in Western Europe or the US...I also did not see weeds being cut in the US, they may simply be not native there as much as they are here...(we are doomed in Eastern Europe in many other ways, natural weeds and unnatural politicians included too...)
Maybe because of the general cleanliness, i also hardly, if ever, saw rubber mats in the foot compartment of US rental cars, an accessory I could not possibly imagine my car without, that prevents the floor lining from becoming irreparably dirty...
Weather here BTW is also unusually cool for Hungary, in the past years mid May come, I already had swum in lake Balaton...not this year in mid-June though..my daughter living in Holland complains of heat waves hitting her area, probably not seen since medieval times in that cool part of western Europe..a cliché I know, but climate changes are around the corner..

Sitting here at 8 am someone just turned off the outside lights. Went from light to darkness in an instant. I just got through filling the outside birdfeeder and the sky has opened up. Thunder, lightning, and a welcome heavy rain.
Enforced rest, no tractor, chainsaw today.

Re: How's the weather?
András, since you were last in US, things have changed here too, but not for the better. To cut to the quick sparing a traversing to the Redneck Zone (egy rosszkedvű honfitárs beszéde), overall for the past 20 years, I have seen a deterioration overall in our highway system, especially the rural roads that were better cared for years ago.balogh wrote:(we are doomed in Eastern Europe in many other ways, natural weeds and unnatural politicians included too...) Many of the roads are cracked to the point called "road mapped" (looks like sections of a city street map). When roads get this bad, it means that the supporting unlying road structure, the gravel base has already failed. (The asphalt paving overtop mainly provides the smooth road surface to travel and weatherizing of the underlying base. The gravel base coarse of sharp edged rock lock together to provide the load bearing capability of the road surface. Instead of simply re-paving, the road needs to be reconstructed from the sub-base on up, similar to a new road. I see them repaving without redoing the base, but it shows by swifting by re-cracking in a short amount of time, reducing the road to the same deteriorated state as before.
Moneys that used to be dedicated by each state for road maintenance and repairs, from title and registration fees of motor vehicles was diverted by politicians for their own other priorities.
The more I learn of the scientific community's research showing to the contrary (climate is cyclic), much of which is being purposely supressed, I find it interesting that our CO2 levels are the lowest levels ever. Again, this discussion is best suited for the egy rosszkedvű honfitárs beszéde,balogh wrote:Weather here BTW is also unusually cool for Hungary, in the past years mid May come, I already had swum in lake Balaton...not this year in mid-June though..my daughter living in Holland complains of heat waves hitting her area, probably not seen since medieval times in that cool part of western Europe..a cliché I know, but climate changes are around the corner..

Just as I hit "send" on this there was a crack of thunder and lightning right outside my window and the screen went totally black for about five seconds. "What did I do?" I thought. Did not lose electricity, but something sucked all the display. Reminded me of a typical summer day in Florida. Rain continued most of the morning.

Re: How's the weather?
Bob, a relatively inexpensive and small UPS (uninterruptable Power Supply, i.e., backup battery supply), such as 400 Volt-Amps (VA) unit can buffer your desktop computer and monitor when such interruptions occur. It can also help you to properly shutdown your computer without losing data, if delay is more than 15 minutes safely. They also have better power surge clamping than most power strips.rsv1cox wrote:Just as I hit "send" on this there was a crack of thunder and lightning right outside my window and the screen went totally black for about five seconds. So far I haven't added one to my computer here, since Texas power is very reliable. (We live in a part of town where the electrical infrastructure is newer.) However, I donated 3 such during Covid (half price) and installed them at the Salvation Army, on their office desktop, Internet wifi router and a spare for other computer. (The ISP provided a UPS for their Internet main router.)
Being in old downtown, until the power company replaced some of the aged electrical infrastructure in the older part of town, they were experiencing drops of power where lights would go off for 10 to 20 seconds several times a week. These UPS's helped restore Internet and computer reliability especially for their social services.

Re: How's the weather?
Thanks George, my son has mentioned those. All I have between me and Potomas Edison is an AC strip.
Potomac Edison is a third world enterprise, ancient coal powered generators, we lose electricity if snow flys and/or the wind blows over 25mph. Typical for West Virginia I'm afraid. By contrast I read about Arizona's prosperity, how land values there have skyrocketed but lack of water resources limit expansion. Wonder if that has spilled over to New Mexico?
