Re: How's the weather?
roddie, wonderful to see all those bird feeders performing Yeomans duty. I have back-slid, ever since the bear kept knocking mine down I have not put it back up.
So surprised to see that Northern Flicker, a migratory bird that is a member of the Woodpecker family on your feeder. We get flocks of them in the Spring feeding on the ground only. Males are beautiful and all have that shield/crest on their breast.
In sympathy, struggled to get my ATV started yesterday after a two week layoff.

Gloomy is indeed the best description for the weather here now. The sun is in theory "up" for a few hours each day but it has been so cloudy and rainy that we haven't yet had a single hour of visible sun i December....

Re: How's the weather?
Well, did our little Christmas Carols event last night.
This was the outlook from the (trailer) stage.
The young'uns had fun playing amongst the hay as the sun set.
A stiff southerly kept us all pretty cool but a couple of hundred folks from the local farming comminuty seemed to enjoy the night. They were more prepared for the cold than we were.

Currently, 22 deg this morning after a rainy and windy night. Winds were reported at 63 miles an hour. My neighbors garage roof is laying in my other neighbors yard. It looks like a trash can grave yard down the street. They're all over.

Re: How's the weather?
On New Years, the Philly Fliers always get out and yesterday was no exception. It did rain and it was cold. Participation was at it's all time lowest. However, when you mention free food, even the dead come alive. It first started out as small hail and then sleet turning into quite a bit of rain. Some of us managed to get some flights in. I had more interest in breaking in some new engines. I suppose everyone still thinks they're going to die if they breathe the air. A few months ago some jerk turfed up our field with a 4 wheeler and drove through the wooden fences. We repaired them and the field and of course some a -hole drove through the fence again. Is that how were supposed to celebrate New Years nowadays ? All these years I did it the old fashioned way. I'm really getting to know the owner of the wooden fence company were practically on a first name basis nowadays.

That pink stuff right across my house at 1400' asl in West Virginia Bob.
Freezing drizzle all day, ice in the trees, puddles on the driveway.
Lights flickered at 7:30 PM, got out the lantern. Midnight the lights went out for good, back at 2:30 AM. Ice in the trees this morning but melting an hour later.

Up here on Long Island, we hit the low 50s.
Windy, but nice. Nocturnals aside, everyone

It's not braggin' if you can back it up.
Been there. Florida = nice this time of year. But, June, July, August, September give me the cool mountain air of West Virginia. But, Florida enjoys what my Mother called "Natures air conditioning" cooling breezes off the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico that the deep South lacks.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind and Florida the most.

The last picture with all the snow reminds me of the part in 007's " Her majesty's secret service" where the red Mercury Cougar is driving through the snow.

Quite a few movies were shot at Snowshoe using it as a set. Sommersby with Richard Gere was one.
Coal Miners Daughter was also partly shot in WV. "It ain't no act" - I love that line uttered by Doo (Tommy Lee Jones) regarding Loretta (Sissy Spacek) at the radio station. Spacek sang all those country songs herself.

Re: How's the weather?
We had a couple of days of around 26ºC so I took the opportunity to lay some paint on the latest project.
Sadly, I ended up with a couple of runs in the door and by the time it had dried enough to sand them back we had a thunderstorm followed by rain, so no good for painting.
Today it's really humid and rainy and I need to have the car off the hoist by tomorrow morning, so looks like the masking is coming off before it's finished and back into storage until my next work break.

Thanks for sharing that story Rod and the picture. Gotta say, I have been there. Humidity is no friend to the laying of or drying paint.

Re: How's the weather?
We had our hottest day so far this Summer today. 36º Celsius. We've just passed our peak at 4pm and clouds are building, so temp is slowly dropping. Not so much fun in the workshop today, replacing timing chains in a V6 3.6 GM Alloytec. Dealing with twenty timing marks for three separate chains.

Re: How's the weather?
Oh man, waayyyy too many moving parts in that engine. I wonder when engineering training went to the direction where ”more moving parts = better”?
As for my neck of the woods, we finally got some snow, just a few inches but it sure looks nice. Temperature just below freezing at -1 or 2 degC, that’s about 28 or 30degF, right? Now it is 9am and still dark.

Absolutely correct. You really have to wonder what the reasoning is behind some of the engineering you see in modern cars. You would hope that their main aim was efficiency and reliability. Make it reliable, and in the long term it's efficient. Sadly that doesn't ring true. The vehicle has only done around 140,000km. Two chain guides and a tensioner had failed. Chains were slapping metal. Not a nice sound on start-up.
Engineers certainly failed on this one. Only the second one of these I've done. The other had chains that had stretched 6mm. Even with modern oils, you would expect better.
Taken after I'd refitted the timing cover. Lots of sweat expelled on this job.
