Many plastics will dissolve in acetone. Apply some to the plastic in question. If it softens, soak your cutter in a small tub of acetone for several hours; it should come out clean.

I keep a sealable tupperware container filled with acetone to clean my CA caps. When finished building for the day, I drop my used caps in the tub and re-cap the bottle with an uncut cap. The next time I get ready to build, I just pull a cap out of the tub and it's CA free.

Whoa, the "Tupperware" don't melt? Like you said "many plastics will dissolve in acetone". I've always assumed it was " most plastics " so I've stored mine in glass jars. Baby food jars are getting harder to come by So, thanks for the tip!

In this case I had tried acetone and MEK soak... the plastic seemed impervious to either. Just a few seconds at high rpm and the flame/heat completely removed all the embedded gunk.

I always keep and wash out various food containers like Vienna sausage cans, Campbell's soup, the ones in plastic with metal pull top and a snap over lid. Also some of the containers I get fish food in. I test them with acetone and MEK, two liquids I use a bunch of and evaporate away if not sealed.


And I also keep a collection of used cut CA bottle tops, and the applicator tips that I keep in acetone until next use like Andrew mentioned. I do the same as he suggests and keep the un-cut top to reseal the bottle when I put it away.

Funny thing is I am 60 with CRS and some times I start a project and find a CA bottle I used a few days ago on the bench still opened (Sig thin) and is not dried up or solid...but this seems to be brand dependent, cuz some brands (Zap hot stuff) I open and seem to evaporate in the bottle right before my eyes

I came across some medical pill cups that looked to me as good as the more expensive small mixing cups we use for epoxy etc.... silly me I tried to thin a small amount of dope in one and she melted down immediately leaving me with a red mess..LoL...

Ah Ha... the plastic fouled the carbide from heat

Fire up the propane torch.... fire up the Dremel to 30,000 RPM
Pass the carbide through the flame and make DAMNED sure the hot plastic does not fly into my face!

Disclaimer.... if you sling hot plastic in your face you are dumb with a capitol D!

AHA! Just because there is no incriminating evidence to said event, does not necessarily mean it did not occur!

I am glad no serious injury resulted from this 'Eureka!' moment.

Yea some aha moments should be preserved as a lesson to others...well at least mentioned

Did manage to ruin a cheap pair of walmart 1.75 glasses as their lens is/was plastic too and the hot sling of orange crud stuck permanently
