A little older than the space shuttle. 1953fit90 wrote:WD-40 is actually a water displacer and not a lubricant. I think it was developed for the space shuttle program. It was supposedly the 40th formula, thus WD-40. I do not know if this is totally correct but I have heard it many times.

I don't know what WD-40 is good for but its not a good lubricant or rust preventive. Any oil is much better.
I saw the owner of the company talking about making it for the Space Shuttle not long ago.

Re: wd40 fuel injected cox engine
Greg,
Very wise of you to limit the run time on your Cox engine. I admire your enthusiasm, and ingenuity.
My first engine was a mail order Cub .049, for which I had no fuel, or battery, to drive the glow plug.
In my youthful enthusiasm, and haste to see it run, I fueled it with the only thing we had on the farm resembling fuel, which was Kerosene. I flipped that thing for hours, but you can guess the results. A very sore finger, frustration, and Kerosene all over myself, and the kitchen floor! The fortunate thing was that no one even noticed the extra Kero smell because the kitchen stove and lamps all burned Kero, and I usually spilled a bit every evening while topping them off from the drum in the basement. Never did get that Cub to run.
Next trip to the city I talked my wonderful Grandfather (who raised me from the age of seven) into buying me a brand new just released McCoy .049 diesel engine, a bottle of medicinal Ether, and some Castor oil. Fuel problem solved!
