Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
Never seen it go for so much.
I believe to have a red one to in jewel case which would come available at my engine lot sale. And several black ones.
Best regards,
Bastiaan

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
We have sold several for $195 and $249; which we deem to be a fair price.
We actually have a customer in Germany that is looking for a red 010 in Jewel case (new and pristine) so do let us know how much and perhaps we can swing a deal

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
Bernie,
I am planning to sell my complete Cox engine collection, but dont want to break it up. It are about 100 engines and selling them one by one is time consuming. (see my for sale topic)
Cheers,
Bastiaan

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
Bastiaan, you might consider paying someone to list some individually for a fee or cut. There are many people around who would be happy to handle this project for you and you may get top dollar for each engine and not have to do any listing or shipping. Just an idea.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
I've got to say that's the highest I've ever seen a .010 go for. I don't even think the .010 tie clip ever sold for that much. I wonder if the buyer will actually hold up his end of the deal.
Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
$325 for my .010 tie clip from Dan Sitter.
I doubt that seller gets paid. Shill bids or 2 idiots with deep pockets.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
We did message the seller and this was the reply:
Dear xenalook,
yes its for real and they paid right away

Sometimes, one has to accept something that one might feel uncomfortable with.
I remember a year ago insinuating that a TD RC 050 would fetch $300 and was roasted on this board. Not only have we sold multiple units at that price but one recently sold on eBay for $460.
Then, we were ridiculed for listing NFFS 051 Medallions for $795. Well, we sold 4 at that price, two for $895, one for $995, are sold out and have a waiting list for two more.
It is what it is lol.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
That's impressive! From what I hear, its not unlikely for a pair of bidders to go crazy and the winner not hold up their end of the deal, good to hear this one didn't waste the seller's time. There really is no set price on these little engines, they jump all over the place. It'd be hard to make a price guide for them (I've tried LOL). A NIB Spider Box Black Widow can sell for $75 one week while a nearly identical one can sell for over $200 a week later. I guess it depends on who needs it for their collection at that given time. That .010 looks to be in fine shape. I remember when I first saw a Venom sell for over $700 on eBay! Not long after that, a few got listed on eBay and they all sold between $200-300. I had a Venom that I bought from the hobby shop up the street but sold it shortly after buying it to a friend who was into mouse racing. He insisted on having it and after seeing the ones on eBay, I figured why not. I think I got around $250 for it, nice profit as I probably originally probably paid around $45 for it LOL. At the time (this had to be at least 8-9 years ago), I wasn't considering myself a collector and didn't know I would really get this far into the hobby. To this day I highly regret selling that engine. I even tried to make clones of it that turned out nice but not nice enough.
I know he ended up selling the engine along with the rest of his planes and RC stuff.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
I suppose from a business perspective a big sale is a great thing.
I have said it before though, high prices kill the hobby side of the house as engines for the average user become unobtainable.
As a user and an advocate for the CL hobby I don't enjoy seeing ridiculous prices for engine sales.
As Bernie said "it is what it is" though.
Maybe one day the guy/gal who bought that TD will realize if they had done some digging and homework they could have bought 5-7 of those engines for the same price they had paid for one.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
Well, ain't that sweet? The "good" side of high prices at auction will be that other owner
/collectors will offer up for sale their engines, offering buyers more to choose from. When the market is saturated, the prices will drop back to where the hobby user can afford to purchase at a reasonable price, maybe. Or I start selling my "Original rare vintage antique Thimbal Drome ( or is it thimble drone?) Baby Bee 049, hand assembled in a factory owned by Leroy Cox. Stored in the trunk of a '57 Chevy since 1965......Buy it now.....$500.00 plus shipping. Sit back and wait for the investment buyers to line my pockets.

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
I'm sorry, but...
I apologize in advance to all of the genuine collectors out there, but that is just silly.
Like everyone has said, it just drives prices out of the range of those of us who would just like to have one to use. Hopefully, your predictions will come true and saturation will eventually make things more affordable.
I find that I'm living in fear of any more of my interests becoming "collectible"!

Re: Tee Dee 010 / A new record?
I saw that happen on ebay multiple times...rookies (these 2 competitors combined have had less that 50 deals on ebay till date ) tend to go crazy when buying rarities like the 010-s the first time. I do not think such one-time events will have any lasting impact on the price of engines posted on ebay. Most of the 010-s I followed sold at max 250USD recently.
I remember myself having almost lost control when bidding for the first 050 R/C a couple yeasr ago. I got that near 200USD at the end. Since then I saw 050-s sell in the range of 150-250, and today I would rather buy 2 TD 051-s with stepped cylinders NIB for 150 total than a NIB 050 at the same price, because my preference for merits in use prevail over the elegance of rarity sought by a collector.
