"I have not attempted to clean this"
A sellers understatement..........
It went to some courageous soul for $6.50

Perfect cantidate for an overnight simmer in anti-freeze
Actually, I prefer it when a seller hasn't tried to tidy an engine up. You get to see it as it is, you know he hasn't butchered anything trying to dismantle it and it generally brings the purchase price down when it looks like that. I've bought engines really cheap which looked terrible in the photos, but was amazed at how good they look after a basic clean & oil. It's best that if someone doesn't know what they're doing they should leave well alone.

I steer clear of oxidized engines. Generally the cylinders/cranks are rust froze and you can never fully clean the case.
I think you dodged a bullet Bob.

Yep, i love a eBay listing of a oily, dirty engine, as long as you can't see any plier marks, you know its well preserved, moisture damage is something else.
Re: "I have not attempted to clean this"
A car guy would say " That will buff right out".
I really wanted to bid, but it already had two and I didn't want to spoil someone else's fun.
But it was a .098 for what that is worth.
Seller had two in that condition, but only just the .098 included in the auction.
The other looks to be a series 21. I bought an old Remington model 550 semi auto .22 once in the same condition. I named it Doug, like some one had buried it and dug it up years later. I actually got it to shoot and cycle ammo. No accuracy though, not much rifling left at the muzzle.
