Woo-Hoo! Score!

Woo-Hoo! Score!
I took the wife out to our favorite Korean restaurant for dinner tonight, which just happens to be a couple of hundred yards from a hobby shop. So, after dinner, I stopped in to get some canopy-safe glue. By the register, there was a table with a sign, “Everything on this table $1.00”. So, I started digging. I ended up with 14 items. One of which I had been wanting for a while, but the retail price was $39.99. It was going for a dollar because it’s missing a gear. Big deal, I can order one for a couple of bucks. They also had Sullivan 1 oz tanks on the table. I don’t know why they were getting rid of them, but there were seven on the table. Were. I bought all of them. When I got home, I added up the retail price of everything, and the total retail price was $108.58 (minus the price of the gear I have to get). All for just $14 bucks.

Nice. Those slant tanks are handy to have around. For test stands and quick 1/2A builds.

That's sweet Mark. Not long ago, I went to a huge RC swap meet and found a dollar box. The RC guys could believe I wanted so much of it. I must have pulled ten of the tanks out in my sizes and whole bag of CL parts. Happy for you. 'Lucky Duck Mark'

Yeah. That's why I couldn't believe they were selling for a dollar. That's early 70's price. There was one bag where the tank was missing, but the stopper, brass tubes, and fuel line were there. I wish had grabbed that one, too. I could use the stopper and tubes for a balloon tank. Maybe it'll still be there the next time I go that way. And the girl behind the counter actually looked at me and warned, "There's no returns on this stuff." Like I would decide I didn't want it...
Duke, I still love R/C, but the more I get back into building C/L, the more I believe the current crop of R/C fliers have sold their souls to MARFistopholise. They don't see the possibilities in the stuff they have on hand, so they get rid of it at a pittance. EPP is the Devil's work. I don't count the R/C builders here on this forum, as even though some of us do buy ARFs or RTFs, we also still build from kits or from scratch. I've talked to a few people in the last couple of months that saw my planes and were interested until I said the words "build" or "plans". Then they just tuned out. So, I guess that's good for you at swap meets. Gets you more building supplies.

Re: Woo-Hoo! Score!
Nice score Mark!! I would have bought all those tanks too!!! Yea.. it's hard for me to understand why so many people don't build "old school" anymore. There's a society of "impatience" and "short attention span" being built in this age. I think it's mainly due to the advances in digital media. When I watch TV commercials.. there can be hundreds of images flashed within a 30 second ad... just long enough not to be illegally subliminal. (not sure if that's even illegal anymore?) Everywhere I go.. people have their heads stuck in their mobile phones, completely oblivious to what's going on around them. It's the ones that use their phones to surf and text while operating a motor vehicle... that really scares me. I see it all the time; especially sitting in traffic at a stop signal.
Re: Woo-Hoo! Score!
Those 1oz tanks are getting harder to find, at least on the shelf anyway.
Roddie, it's not just the youth it's adults as well. I see it all the time. What I don't understand is people are getting killed on the road yet folks still choose to do it!
