Swap Meet Score !

Swap Meet Score !
Made a 350 mile loop today...up through a Swap Meet in Columbia, Illinois then down through Southern Illinois to do some flying with my Uncle Wayne.
For about 7 bucks, got me two "Rescue Bees" (like the Orphanage needs more!), and one of those plastic-cased "Fly 'Em" Testors Engines. The last being a strange little machine! Don't know if I can get this one to run.
Got in quite a bit of visiting with some fine folks, and bought my mandatory Hot Dog from the concession stand!

Re: Swap Meet Score !
That's great! Wish I could have been there! This looks exactly like the swap meets that they have at the fairgrounds. There is always the guy with the 1000 engines and the old "hillbilly" with the mess of broken planes, trains and other crap on a bed sheet. There is also a guy with all the over priced cox stuff. I usually find deals but it sure looks like you got some good deals!
Re: Swap Meet Score !
Have you tried running that testors yet?
I have never seen one run how are they compared to a babe bee?

Yeah, and between the Hillbilly, Engine Guy, and Over-Priced Cox Guy, there's any combination of the three ! I was looking at some rough Wen Mac's and OK Cubs, figured 20 bucks for the bunch, but the guy kept pointing out their "Antique Value" and wouldn't budge on not grouping them. They were all still laying there when I bailed.
I always have a great time whether I make what I consider a score or not ! I bought a Babe Bee carcass (RTF backplate-no spray bar or glowhead) from a really old fellow who I think was totally deaf. He just stared at me 'till I held up two fingers and pointed at it...then he smiled and nodded. Big Social Event for these guys.
I do regret not going ahead and shelling out 30 bucks for a NIB Citizenship Rubberband Escapement. I've still got my old set and keep thinking about actually trying to make it fly again. MAN, my brain is weird ! Oh well, maybe it'll circle around to me next year!

Lol!,,pipe bomb.
Love the swap meets. I usually head right to the fella with the electronics supplys, and gather up the good heat shrink and servo plug pins, walk back to the truck, drop that off, and then do some shopping.
Picked up a mint condition Thunderbolt with a new Saito FA-80 4 stroke last year for next to nothing.

Nope..staggered in pretty much wasted last night from the 300 mile+ loop I made from the Swap Meet, to my Uncle Wayne's house, and back home!
A member named Tom, over on Mark's .049 Collectors Group, was experimenting with his recently, and posted as he went along with it. Figure to reread his posts and maybe compare notes with him...here's one:
"Thanks for the photos Mark. The P-51 seems to have the same engine I have in my
ME-109. (Nylon needle notch valve system) I fiddle-farted around with my toy
again today and couldn't get it to run again. Can you post a copy of the
standard fueling/starting instructions for this beast? Mine has not been "hopped
up" beyond just not having a muffler ring. I lucked out yesterday running it,
but I've lost my mojo now. This pipe bomb engines are sort of like
communism--they look good on paper, but in high volume production practice ???"
My Uncle Wayne gave me the little red "Q-Tee" built by his brother in the 80's, so I now have a Test-Bed for some of these things.

You'd think so...but NOPE !!!!
The most assured way for me to add another to the clan is to simply utter the phrase, "OK...THAT'S ENOUGH! YOU'VE GOT PLENTY OF THEM !!!" An instant later, much like some Demon from Hell...one will pop from the ground, and break my Will !!!!!!

Thanks Mark! Gonna reference some of Tom's posts for assistance. First order of business is to figure a way to bolt this thing down so it won't leave if it DOES start!

Hopefully, this highly engineered test-stand will be able to withstand the massive horse power I anticipate from this impressive engine !
