Hobby King selling Cox engine
Hobby King from Hong Kong is selling Cox engines and propellers.
Are they real or reproduction, anybody has any idea?

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
I would assume that the are reproductions. The fact that Hobbyking is carrying cox products signals a resurgence in cox/ 1/2a interest, which is a very good thing.

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
I am somewhat skeptical on them being reproductions due to the difficulty in making pistons. Unless they managed to get hold of a large quantity of them. Bernie or Matt may be selling through HK.

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
Like Andrew posted, Bernie sold off some engine stock to HK. It's all original Cox stuff. It's probably a good thing, as it will generate more interest and increase the chances of having more engines made.
Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
Yes,
Hobby Jing is now one of our resellers.
Some of the items are already sold out and on backorder status, meaning we are likely going to see another order shortly.

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
Maybe it would become practical to manufacture a batch of 5,000+ engines now that you have extra vendors. (HK being one of the largest international)
On a side note, I want to know who is still buying pulse jets...

Not going to happen before we get the price of a Surestart engine to somewhere around $40.microflitedude wrote:Maybe it would become practical to manufacture a batch of 5,000+ engines now that you have extra vendors. (HK being one of the largest international)

It will cost around $18 - to $20 to make the engine in a 5,000 batch. That aside, we don't have $100,000 of capital available.

Thanks Andrew, interesting read... I wish I could get some feedback on my homemade muffler design that was featured in Bernie's last emag issue.andrew wrote:Story can be found here:

If "noise" wasn't so much of a growing concern, we'd see a lot more IC engine modeling. You can't beat the simplicity of glow-power; providing you have sufficient trouble-shooting knowledge. Having a 1/2A multi-plane/all-day flying session, supported by a qt. of fuel and small simple flight tote for convenient "anywhere" C/L flying, should be as popular as it once was... who knows... a lot of old-time activities come "full-circle" (no pun intended)
I was always able to keep my Cox powered planes flying, with only a "simple" understanding of how the engine worked, and properly balancing the model. In the "short" amount of time that I've been a CEF member, I've acquired a wealth of additional knowledge about the hobby. It's the perfect resource for learning, advice, ideas, topic discussion, parts-support, current events... and communication between people who are all very helpful and candid in sharing their experiences. It's "everything you need" Cox!
Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
Let's hope the "kit" sales take-off... (no pun intended) Granted; they're not going to produce 100K in sales revenue/working capital... but they're good apples to have on the shelf, for a "1-stop" shopping experience... which is necessary for growth.Cox International wrote:Not going to happen before we get the price of a Surestart engine to somewhere around $40.microflitedude wrote:Maybe it would become practical to manufacture a batch of 5,000+ engines now that you have extra vendors. We sell about 200 kits / year and recently switched from Black Hawk to Brodak.
By the time we factor in combined shipping (kits ship separately from the USA) there is hardly any profit made on kits.
They are mainly intended as traffic builders for our engines and other products.

Here's one my friend built.
The Speed guys we are starting to run with are into the pulse jets. Really cool to watch. I would like to build one someday and that HK unit is a really good price. Some of the guys on a different forum have been talking about it.

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
Hobby King -- Grrrrr!
I have used them twice in the UK. I looked at the offerings I needed - small parts, electrickery, ESCs and a couple tiny motors. "Cheap as chips" - I thought.
My first attempt at ordering was disastrous - I quickly realised that I was ordering from different warehouses and that postage from the US warehouse was horrendously expensive. I chopped away the US portions and changed the order to the UK and "European" warehouse.
The UK portion of the order took 5 days to arrive. Normal internet service here is next day delivery depending on the time you place the order. I order from Bernie and Matt and 5 days is normal from across the Atlantic! ( cheap postage too!).
The other portion took two weeks and came from Hong Kong. I also had to pay import duty @ 20% and an £8 surcharge from the Post Office. I thought that was coming from the EU (no duty)!
Being very wary now - my second order - I made sure that I only ordered from the UK warehouse and everything was in stock.
That was on the 10th October. Three weeks ago and my order still hasn't been shipped! . While the essence of their responses is polite the service is rubbish!
This is the correspondence I have had with them

Sorry to hear this. I've only used them once and recieved my parts in three day from ordering. I've thought of using them again, but haven't. I really like going to the LHS and they answer all my questions and I like supporting them.

SD- You live between two great shops. RC Hobbies in Lacey and one in Parkland. For some reason I can't remember the name of the one in Parkland. Both stock building supplies and will order things for you weekly. And both of the owners know each other, respect each other, and are deeply in the modeling hobby. The owner of RC Hobbies in Lacey is looking for a Ringmaster kit to start flying CL with us.SuperDave wrote:Duke:

Duke:
The hobby shop in Parkland is Hobby Towne an I frequent it regularly. It's OK for "bits and pieces" but falls short in other items like kits. (The owner is a nice enough guy but scoffs st anything 1/2A or Cox related. ( He's an "EP" and "foamie" kind of guy). Further a trip there requires someone to drive me due to poor vision. (I'm licensed to drive but I scare the of myself)
So I'm doing mail-order buying mostly. Catalogs, great selections and incentive offers no LHS can match (and stay in business). Sure I have to pay shipping but I dodge the Washington State 8.4% sales tax to offset shipping costs.
It amazes me that Washington State requires businesses be tax collectors burdening them with added responsibilities expenses for the "priviledge" of doing business in our state as if the expense of running a business weren't engough; taxes, inventories, insurance, labor etc.
I was at one time in business for myslef so I know these aggrivations first-hand.

I don't know Dave. The owner of Hobby Town Parkland had a couple CL kits the last time I stopped by and he gets my Sig 1/2A fuel and can order all the Sig Cl planes. He makes a Sig order every two weeks or so. He used to be a CL flyer.SuperDave wrote:Duke:

Re: Hobby King selling Cox engine
I've purchased from Hobby King several times and have nothing but positive experiences with them. Most times my order has been received long before I expected it.
I'm also a member of a large electric RC club that has been making group purchases for several years. Their prices have been almost ridiculously low when compared to other sources, and the group wouldn't keep going back if the overall experience hadn't been very good.
Just my own story, and I'm sticking to it ...

Hi Ian ,
Thanks for contacting the HobbyKing Support Team.
I have checked your order 2007874851. Your order is currently on hold because the 221000013 Hobbyking Funfighter Replacement Propeller 5.5 x 4.5 (UK Warehouse) is on backorder.
In order for us to continue processing your order, we would like to suggest the following options:
1. Continue to wait for the backorder item.
2. Replace the backorder item with an alternative product.
3. Cancel the order and refund the amount as Bonus Points which you may use on your next purchase with us.
Please inform us the option that you prefer so that we can take the necessary action to resolve this efficiently.

Now one month and still no sign of my order. No tracking number has been issued. This is all supposed to be handled in the UK but all the emails quote HKT (Hong Kong Time!).
I realise that a few of you have received satisfactory service but this is the WORST mail order company I have ever dealt with.
